I'd say people. Don't panic. You've been using your ios 7 rigs for a year now. You're happy with it? Keep it that way. Wait until the storm is over. Let's not behave like a bunch of fanboys. Just saying.

Dude, if I can handle phone calls from my iPad when my iPhone is laying on the other end of the living room table and I'm in a horizontal position in the sofa, I'll focking update. Even if I don't really want to (hence the panicking)

  • Sorry man @ChrisG I've read your comment about 12 times but I'm still not getting what you're on about.

iOS 8 allows you to use the iPad (and Macs) as a phone via your iPhone, as long as both the iPhone and iPad/Mac is on the same wifi network. Leeelly awesome feature if you ask me. ;)

  • Wait until the storm is over.

    Words of wisdom.

  • I was one of the guinea pigs last year with iOS 7. The only thing that worries me is that nowadays, iOS updates have a quite high tendency to "brick" your iDevice, forcing you to mess around with getting the thing out of DFU and whatnot, then restoring the whole thing via iTunes. Happened two times here already since iOS 7.0. Not sure what the cause is, and Apple haven't released any info on the subject, and how to minimize the risk of it happening. Not the end of the world, but a PITA when it happens for sure

  • Ok, fair play @ChrisG I use both, my ipad and iphone mostly for music so not too thrilled by other uses. I'm an android fanboy as far as phones are concerned.

In all seriousness my iPad is primarily for music related stuff too. And I tend to shut off every new unneeded feature added that might use up resources (like the new background updating and whatever else there was in iOS 7). Siri is off. Notification is ON only for a 2 apps besides the calendar. BT antenna off. And so on. Not really sure how much it all helps in the end tho

OK. Using the form and form letter (with modifications) from the site here, I just contacted the devs for:

    NLog Pro
    Alchemy
    DXi
    iTuttle
    iVCS3
    Nave
    Epic Synth
    Modal Pro
    Xenon
    Argon
    iGuzheng
    Jam Maestro
    Altispace, MasterFX, Audio Mastering
    DM1
    Animoog

I know some of you are devs here - working hard already on this :-) - Just saying - we need to see this happen. Others are not here. Need a kick!

Also - need to get on to Arturia too! iSEM, iMini, etc. The contact form goes to Arturia's site for that - harder to navigate - will get to it. Yet more showstoppers if they don't work for me.

Without those apps above on iOS 8 working with Audiobus - I will not upgrade from 7 - maybe ever...

BIG thank you to the devs who have already ported. :-D

Sadly I won't see iOS 8 until Animoog is compatible. It could be a while.

I'm not that worried. 'm not sure I've seen anything in iOS 8 that I really need ... For music or other uses.

  • DrumJam just updated! Yay!

Updates for ivcs3, ipulsaret and idensity are at apple since last week

Isem, nlog pro, nave is all by the same guy Rolf Wöhrmann/tempo rubato - he is usually on top of things, no need to push; but i'd like to know what is going on too

Auria is already at apple too.
please ready this thread carefully so you dont waste your and their time

Nave, NLog and iSEM are in review at Apple, according to a tweet from Rolf/Tempo Rubato an hr or so ago.

    GR8!

Most of my favorite apps have been updated already or are in the pipeline, it seems!

Kudos to the devs that are doing this!

  • I've been on the iOS 8 GM since it was released last week, both on my iPhone 5 and iPad 4. The only problems I've had were related to music apps not yet updated with the latest Audiobus SDK. Unfortunately, one of them is my main output to my laptop DAW: Auria. Looks like I'll have to wait a few more days before I can really put my workflow through its paces.

Cool, thx for the info, @ChrisG
    nice gonna update today :)

  • Just FYI: Mitosynth 1.1 is already compatible with Audiobus-in-iOS-8.

A Mitosynth 1.2 update is currently waiting for Apple's approval, and this has enhanced support for the new larger iPhone 6/6+ screens (bigger XY pads, more piano keys on-screen at once, etc), as well as a bunch of other features I'll be announcing soon :) Some of the new features require iOS 8, but the app itself continues to be back-compatible with iOS 7, and there are plenty of new features for iOS 7 users too.

The current App Store version of Grain Science is not compatible with Audiobus under iOS 8, but Grain Science 1.6 is, and that is also waiting for Apple to approve it. Unlike Mitosynth, I couldn't release an update sooner due to some other iOS 8 issues (bugs in iOS 8 which I reported to Apple, and which they fixed, but they didn't release the fixes to developers until about a week ago). Hopefully this update will be approved soon, though!

@sebastian (and anyone else with the GM) What's your opinion on iOS 8 in general on the rMini/Air (can't remember what device you had)? If not looking at apps not working due to compatibility issues, just the OS in general. Does it seem to use more RAM, have you done any stress testing to see if iOS 8 GM can handle about the same amount of synths, stuff, porn and whatnot? Also, are basic UI things more sluggish and so on?

Meh. My iPhone is running iOS 8 and so far I'm not regretting it. But i'm not making music with it. I honestly don't want to comment on what I think about iOS 8's performance, you'll have to ask someone else. I just don't want to be quoted on saying anything negative or positive about it.

Hmmm. I can see the front page now: "@Sebastian reported as refusing to say anything positive about new iOS." Spin, spin, spin....

c'mon, give him a break, it's different if u tell a personal opinion or if you speak for a company.
I am sure I wouldn't like to get an ear full of you made me do it ...

  • Waiting for the drop

  • I contacted the developer for samplr and was told an update was coming.

    That's good news.

  • Here's to hoping that the older Korg apps (iPolysix, iMS20) will be updated. I kinda fear that Korg doesn't have those high on their priority list.

  • Anyone heard of lemur?

They say they're "testing all KORG iOS Apps." - http://www.korg.com/us/news/2014/0915/

Much as I like it at times, I could live with iPolysix getting dusty, but I will be bummed if iMS20 is allowed to drift away. Still so much to be done (by the users) with that thing.
