Mid Side Continuum - Out Now!
IMPORTANT: Owners of True Pan will be able to get this app at a 83% discount via an app bundle that's going to be available soon.
Ever wonder what lies between the L/R and M/S representations?
Mid-Side Continuum extends the definition of mid-side encoding to create a smooth, continuous interval allowing in-between values and gradual changes. Channel mode switches can now be turned into faders, opening up new modulation possibilities as well.
The algorithm used by the plugin is a true extension of the mid-side encoder/decoder concept and doesn't involve any cross-fading or other artificial constructs.
The plugin can be used in two ways:
• In standalone mode, as a width-preserving panning effect, or a special modulation effect for spatially balanced sounds
• In paired mode, allowing other effects to operate anywhere between L/R and M/S modes, with modulation options available
FEATURES:
• Provides a new kind of spatial modulation effect for stereo signals
• Can be used as a panner that doesn't squash wide components (existing ambience, reverb, stereo FX), strongly panning narrow parts at the same time
• A great companion for delays or delay-based effects: explore adding space or change the panoramic character without re-configuring delay taps
• Turn any stereo effect or effects chain into a M/S one (or any graduation on the L/R - M/S curve), by sandwiching them between a pair of Mid-Side Continuum instances
• Unlike panning, stereo panning, or binaural panning, Mid-Side Continuum preserves the exact geometry of the stereo field by using a lossless transform
• Higher rates of change can be used to create additional kinds of effects (chorus, warble/flutter), depending on the width characteristics of the original input
• A tempo sync capable LFO is available to add automatic modulation; the LFO phase can be offset to allow precise timing control and alignment
THE PANNER FOR REVERB-RICH SOUNDS:
Panning high-ambience and reverb-rich sounds need no longer result in squashed stereo images. The exact, full width of the stereo field is preserved when using Mid-Side Continuum as a panning tool. Unlike binaural panning, the overall stereo frequency response is kept maximally flat, thanks to the used algorithm's audio engineering-focused feature set. In fact, Mid-Side Continuum's algorithm is a lossless, completely reversible one (based on True Pan's technology).
WRAP ANY EFFECT TO CHANGE / MODULATE THEIR STEREO MODE:
Two Mid-Side Continuum instances can be conveniently linked in a way that the second one cancels out the transformation, restoring the original sound. Once linked, the second plugin will automatically re-align if parameters are changed in the first one, without missing a single sample.
Between these two points, any number of audio effects can be inserted, all of which will receive the transformed signal instead of the original L/R one. This setup can be used in multiple ways: either to just turn any stereo plugin into a M/S one, or to modulate the stereo field of the wet signals (while keeping the dry signal intact) without the need for setting up additional routing, thus keeping tracks neatly self-contained.
VERSATILE EXTENSION TO DELAY-BASED EFFECTS:
• Alter stereo delay patterns or turn a mono multi-tap delay into a stereo one on the fly
• Instead of having to choose from the two, explore any setting between L/R and M/S delay modes to select the best-fitting stereo response
• Remove excessive L/R slappiness without losing any stereo width by spatially equalizing the delay output, filling in directions not populated by L/R taps
• Improve the clarity of the mid channel / mono mix when combining panned delays with shorter notes or more rhythmic passages
• Lessen any "clockwork-like" quality of panned delays that may be experienced with some instruments or passages
• Change or fine-tune delay patterns that emerge in the mono mix when using stereo delays
PLEASE NOTE:
• An Audio Unit v3 compatible host app is required to use this plugin

Was on the beta for this and I like it. Kind of a simplified version of True Pan in a way but it’s quick and easy which I like. Big fan of Quantovox.
I own both Spatializer and True Pan, both I use almost on a daily basis, very good stuff. So I am curious, hope someone will post a demo. Good to hear there will be an upcoming bundle discount.
I’ll try and get a quick demo uploaded here tomorrow. For panning it’s like True Pan but direct L/R instead of moving all around the stereo field.
Great!
Same here but I can't remember if I bought any of'em on sale whereas a bundle discount would become void. We'll see ..
I bought Spatializer at full price and True Pan at introduction price, my bundle will probably be skewed. 🤨 Than again, I’m not sure if I need this one, all my S/M duty is done with trusty FabFilters.
Hi Luxthor,
The good news is that True Pan never had an intro price, so unless store-wide price adjustments affected your country since April, you're good for the $1 bundle completion. (We also didn't intend an intro price for this plugin either, but apparently a bundle cannot be sold below the price of its most expensive component...)
Now that you mention FabFilter, we actually prepared most of our demos showing how the plugin can be used with Timeless3, the iOS app store features a preview video showing the stereoization of a mono Timeless3 preset (though some change of plans and a quite eventful release rollercoaster will push out the schedule for more demos):
But the really interesting uses involve stereo delays. In a nutshell, where you had a switch before (to choose between L/R and M/S modes), you can now have a fader, like in this somewhat abstract and slightly goofy picture from the beta test thread:
Just as a very brief example, consider the Timeless3 preset "Vintage, yet not bM". This is a M/S preset, so you cannot really use it for mono or narrow sounds. And for stereo sounds, there can be a very strong difference between L/R and M/S modes. With Mid-Side Continuum, you can now explore any setting in-between these two settings, and even better, modulating it opens up a lot of fine-tuning possibilities that would be either impossible or very tedious to do by re-configuring the delay taps.
One key strength of the plugin is that it can wrap other effects, and unlike True Pan today, it's not iOS-exclusive.
If you have your headphones handy, you can also check out the effect with Eventide Crystals:
Bring on the bundle!
Hey Quantovox, It's nice to know that bundle is still on the menu for me. 👍
Regarding S/M, Spatializer is already more than I need, and True Pan is an extra push. FabFilters is still ubiquitous when I need to dynamically control side channels and modulate a certain frequency range. But I do love to experiment in that field, so bundle discount or no bundle discount Mid-Side Continuum will be mine, for sure. 🤩
The universal platform is a great advancement, can we hope for the other two to follow the same path?!
Cool! Will be interesting to see this plugin finding its niche out in the wild. It definitely brings something brand new to the desktop - it was actually the primary target for this release.
On iOS, it is indeed just a slightly different take on True Pan's core feature, except for the huge workflow enhancement for wrapping other plugins, allowing rotating the wet signals without needing to set up additional busses.
Regarding multiplatform: Spatializer has been available on M1 macs for quite a while, as a kind of experiment. Current AUv3 support on the desktop however still has issues. Automation problems of many different kinds plague different major macOS hosts, and the big showstopper is related to graphics-intensive AUv3's, which could turn into a major problem if your project had several such plugins. So this makes every single current macOS venture kind of unnerving, although we do try to work with DAW developers, with some degree of success.
We want True Pan's desktop entry to be a high-profile one, and for now it doesn't seem like AUv3 on the desktop is the way to do it (we've been getting our hopes up with every Logic Pro update... should probably stop that at this point).
Cannot say anything concrete about non-Apple platforms at this moment.
@quantovox Hey, app seem to been removed from the store (both iOS and MacOS). What's up?
Could be a temporary glitch with bundle updates etc!?
Sorry about that. To address the bundle delay issue it was deemed best to temporarily pull the app from countries where English is not a native language. The list was refined a bit later, which may still be updating in the store.
BUT -- the good news is that the bundle was finally picked up for review by Apple, fingers crossed.
That's not to say there isn't an actual glitch going on as well...
The bundle is live
Bought, bundle complete!
The bundle is now online.
Curiously, it took 8x longer for it to pass the review than the iOS and macOS apps combined.
Bundle completion for True Pan customers should be around 1 USD, but that alone shouldn't invoke any "instabuy" impulses - especially if macOS compatibility is not high on your list.
You can check the app out for free in the public beta (going to leave it going for a few days):

🙌🏻 about to grab it now
Got the bundle and it somehow made me feel, cheapish.😔 Jokes aside though - thank you! @quantovox
I thought Spatializer would be included as well (I already have it, just wondering) 😊
It's fine, the upgrade price is an acknowledgement of the feature overlaps - though hopefully a good deal for those looking for macOS compatibility (with intel support), and get enough mileage without the extended range or the random LFO's for a number of use cases.
Spatializer is most likely to end up in an all effects bundle first, some more plugins down the road. A fun fact, it was one of two sister concepts, and we may revive the other one eventually, but right now we'll be taking a break from positioning effects and will venture into new areas.
Is this right?
That's not looking good. Any chance you got the plugin via a giveaway?
We just began to suspect a few days ago that giveaways and bundles simply don't mix by Apple's definition.
The bundle’s looking good to me! That’s a dollar well spent. Thank you @quantovox !
Oh sweet! Excited to see what you guys do next 🤩
Your effects are some of favorites and most used. True Pan and Spatializer somehow make it into almost everything lol
Don’t forget your appstore reviews everyone!
Yes. We could all do better about reviewing the apps we love and use every day. Myself included.
Snap, I’m terrible for forgetting to review.
I did get it in a giveaway. Thanks for your help!
@quantovox Is the bundle price an introduction price or will it remain at £5.99?
Thanks for the intel version. Bought.
