Thanks for opening up the beta and hooking up the bundle @quantovox . Not sure I needed help getting lost in space or understood the app description, but this is great
Me too. I keep meaning to set aside some time every week to review some but I always forget. Need to set some reminders.
Right... hate to admit it, but we were completely caught off guard by bundle pricing mechanics, so the bundle price right now is tied to the more expensive standalone app (or vice versa, to allow for the targeted upgrade price). So every plan we had for pricing went out the window. We also tried to look for ways to reward original True Pan customers, and not create a "crazy deal" as a marketing tactic, but that didn't seem to be possible within practical limits.
The 1 USD upgrade, hence the $5.99 bundle price is intended as a temporary pricing.
But we're forced to go back to the drawing board by the discovery that we cannot move the unbundled app's price independently from the bundle price, That collides with our vision for desktop pricing, as well as the strategy we already implemented with True Pan (no FOMO).
So yeah, there will be probably an increase, but right now a lot of questions have been re-opened that also includes making True Pan multi-platform (which we are extremely reluctant about while there are still AUv3 bugs on the desktop). It's really not great to unmake decisions, though it's also an opportunity to factor any feedback and public reception back into the pricing right now...
The price is definitely going to stay for a month at least, just in time for a black friday ascent
If there is continued interest in the app after that, the current price may be maintained longer, unless True Pan itself gets a desktop upgrade.
Again, the primary goal is to make sure every True Pan customer is aware of the upgrade, given the feature overlaps.
And yeah... not great news about how giveaways and bundles don't mix. This was raised in the AUv3 FB group on the 17th, to make sure to include it in the precise wording. After the bundle review got stuck, we did an early release which featured a more optimistic notice on top of the app description, which we refined (using the word "bought") after getting no confirmation either way about giveaway winners and their bundle completion experience...
My bundle price is $1. I had to grab it. If your price is higher then you got True Pan on sale.
Well, at $1 I had to buy the bundle even though I still don't understand what this does...
@quantovox so for a True Pan owner the new feature is pairing of Mid Side Continuum instances to rotate out and back?
Yes, that's the major practical feature add-on compared to True Pan, allowing to send a temporarily modified signal to any enclosed plugin or number of plugins, which means only their wet signals will be rotated in the end result.
It will also work with both tempo-synced and free-running LFO's or an automation-driven modulation scheme. And in case you want to change settings, you can do it in one plugin, whereas if you want to create a similar setup with True Pan, you'll have to update two plugin instances.
Of course this is only valuable if you don't want to setup an extra bus and configure the other effect to work at 100% mix ratio.
If you want to use it with multi-tap or feedback delays, the second important feature is the availability of an LFO phase offset.
That is also extremely helpful if you have a multi-track setup, and want to use the same tempo-synced speed for panning, but probably don't want the different channels to all pan in the same direction. By setting a 180 degree phase shift in one effect, you can create a counter-moving pair of panners on two tracks, for example.
And can be useful if you need to re-align the tempo-synced panning to a given musical passage for some reason.
Apart from the macOS compatibility, the rest is minor, like the ability to configure the panning range.
On the other hand, True Pan has a wider rotation range, more LFO types, a width control, and MODE2 we all love or love to hate
And of course conceptually, this is indeed a fractional M/S converter (but that feature is also a subset of True Pan, functionally speaking). Doing two consecutive 50% transformations will give you a plain old M/S conversion - although that's more of a theoretical curiosity, though a pretty big one if you're into that stuff.
@quantovox Thank you very much for the full explanation of the bundle pricing and whether it’s temporary or not; very helpful and much appreciated. Cheers.
Happy to help! It's our first bundle, so hopefully things will be more streamlined next time, and won't have to rethink pricing mid-release.
Also would like to thank everyone who raised the topic of leaving ratings/reviews (@HotStrange, @Gavinski, @bygjohn, ...).
It's a huge help, and an easy way to support all indie developers and your favorite apps, if it's well earned.
Cheers!
not sure why but I got the bundle for free?
For sure! Happy to help any way I can 👍🏻
The normal explanation should be country-specific price tier adjustments by Apple in response to currency exchange rate or tax code changes, and your initial True Pan purchase is taken into account at a higher value.
