Those of you who are fans of Soniface, also check out their Mutant app. It also got an update and is really fun. More like a sound game playing in 3D space, but also a creative tool… also now with Audiobus and IAA. Looks like it’s only $5.99 currently :)

    https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1483123496?at=11l3KP&mt=8&uo=4&ct=35028277

    It’s $2.99 today.

That’s a sweet deal. The interface is quirky and not exactly intuitive, but it’s a blast to experiment with, and once you get the gist of the interface logic, it starts to make more sense.

It also runs on M1 or better macOS

Soniface is the same though the new update vastly improved the UI. I’m tempted to buy at $2.99. How does it compare to Soniface (if you’ve tried both)?

For me, the interface is a little less idiosyncratic with Mutant. They’re both unique and interesting, but I tend to have more fun with Mutant.

Cool, thanks! I did always think it seemed more fun from what I’ve watched about it.

Have only briefly checked these out so far, but first impression is that they are really cool - properly playing to the strengths of touch screen instead of just apeing hardware or desktop plugins, a tendency among iOS apps I’m getting increasingly tired of. Kudos to the devs!

Yeah I increasingly gravitate toward touch instruments like TC-11 and Shoom. Mutant is now on sale and I’m thinking about grabbing it. Just wondering if it has the ability to load audio samples.

Yes. It’s possible to load user audio samples into Mutant

    Thanks!

  • This is everything I love about ios: Some mad genius coding artist shares his creation with the world, his own instrument/tool that he wants to create with himself. It’s visually beautiful and takes full advantage of the touch screen.

Sorry, been busy with other things so have not used it since that initial play and can't remember, hopefully someone else can answer you tho

Sorry to bother! Thanks for the reply 🙏

Slightly OT: I purchased Mutant both for iOS and Android, and I noticed that Ableton Link is not working on any of my Android devices (Android 10 and 7.0). The option is there, but the menu item is dead.
    Soniface has the same problem.
    Bug or omitted feature?

  • I bought both the other day. There’s a learning curve to the UI that I’m still struggling with, but overall there’s a lot of fun to be had. No regrets at all. I find Mutant to be more approachable, but the apps are very very deep.

Hi, thanks the report, we noticed that and will fix it asap!

Thanks guys for all your positive feedback that motivates us to keep on developing, improving, involving your feedback and keep on our track we recently began with live streams and demo content. further tutorials will follow, we are currently working on. Just keep an eye on YouTube @mazetools

    cheers!

  • I keep forgetting that both Mutant and Soniface Pro… also run on iPhone too. Kind of incredible considering the complexity of these apps.

Here’s a screenshot from an iPhone 11pro running Mutant. If you buy Mutant, make sure you check out the “cloud” at top left and play with “Weirdmode” at top right (I think Soniface got weirdmode too now)

Woah that looks fantastic. I’m hoping it’ll stay on sale just a few more days until I get paid. Think I may grab this one. How are you liking it so far?

I’ve had it since it came out over a year ago. I like it. It’s sorta like an audio game puzzle that you can get very interesting and complex compositions from.

I can’t remember what I paid, but at the current sale price it’s a steal :)

  • Hi guys, just a little question does anybody have experienced problems with the IAA connection?

Actually non and hopefully it keeps like that on this track :) it’s just about IAA where people said it’s not stable enough compare to AUv3 (beside all other advantages) so after a few weeks we released the version with IAA it seems ok still using this like we followed the development steps of Audiobus.

Ah I see. I haven’t used it in IAA mode yet, but I’ll try that out this week :)

    Hi,
We recently released a Pre-Spring Update with a new interface & improved functions. There is also a sale until March 24th.

Since the release of Soniface 4.0 we have received a lot of feedback, thank you for that! We have improved and developed a few things. Please have a look at the update notes below, e.g. mazes and patterns can now be named manually.

The update also includes a brand new automation feature: Maze Connect enables modular links between all controllers. In this way, mazes/instruments can be connected to each other and synth and effect chains can be created, allowing many new forms of interaction. You can get your first impressions and watch more new videos on our YouTube channel.

Feel free to give us feedback and thank you very much at this point. Have a good time with the update!

    Best wishes,
    Stephan & Jakob

  • Hi, we recently launched a SALE with massive discount for a few days. We would be very thankful it, if you could spread the word ;) You might payed once more, you know how it is, i promise you we worked hard for every update :)

Since the last post we were able to produce some first serious tutorials, would be interested in your feedback:

Also we are developing continuously further our new application Mazetools Botany, which will be in Beta soon. So let me now, if like to join the beta. Best wishes, Jakob

  • Hi,
unfortunately neither Mutant nor Soniface work on my iPad Pro 12 M1 when launched with my audio interface attached.
Are external audio interfaces generally not supported?

  • @ectoplastic I’d be thrilled to beta anything you’re working on

Hi! Thanks for the report, I noticed this issue a while ago and missed it. Did you try once to plug-in the interface after starting the app? I guess we can’t reproduce this issue in that way because we have just an iPad 9th gen 2021, but I will try it with the RME Babyface.

  • I'm in on beta testing the new app. Curious what it is/does as well.

Yes, I tried to plug it in afterwards, but this doesn't work either.
