TGX-99/77 by Gospel Musicians (Released)
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tgx-99-77-sample-library/id6467767793
YAMAHA SY-99/77 Sample Library
• 18GB Sample Library (11GB Lossless)
• Store and Stream Samples from External Drive
• AUv3 an Standalone
• Beautiful Skeuomorphic UI
Released in 1991 this one is probably our second favorite synthesizer next to the EX5. The thing that made this synth amazing was it's AFM (Advanced
FM Technology). Not only could it read the DX7 patches, but the enhanced AFM allowed for even better FM EPs with a ton of expression. The other thing you will recognize from this synth is its incredible A/D converters which really make the synthesizer sound warm and phat. You can still hear the digital edge, but it's mixed with a warm analog tone that made all of the patches just sound professional and organic.
Highlights:
• Standalone and AUv3 Compatible
• Yamaha SY99/77 Virtual Sample Library
• 18GB Library (11GB Lossless on Disk)
• Includes all 256 Factory Presets
• Includes all RAW Waveforms
• Includes all Drum Kits
Price: $19.99
The Ultimate Recreation of a Legendary Synth
Classic:
• Factory Presets - You get 128 Factory SY99
Presets and 128 Factory SY77 Factory Presets
• Raw Waveforms - We give you access to the
RAW Waveforms so that you can re-create some of your favorite patches. Our synthesis is powerful enough to get very close!
• Capturing Nostalgia - Most of our presets use the exact wave layers as the hardware, which allows you to tweak to your liking. When needed, we used the sampled version.
• Taking it to Another Level - Because our synthesizer is a bit more powerful than the hardware, you can now create presets that rival the hardware.
• We sampled the factory presets with the effects on to capture the "exact" nostalgia of the hardware.

Wonder how this compares to the King of FM app. I’m sure I’ll still buy it because I love PSP and the other IAPs have been excellent but I’m interested in how the quality of the 2 compare as KoFM sounds amazing.
Might have to wait until I get an SSD or upgrade iPads before I take the dive though. I’m getting a little too low on space.
Calling it ‘more powerful than the hardware’ is simply not true, it doesn’t even do proper FM like the original did and the effects are not even close to match the character of the original.
Sure those that have never touched the original may fall into the illusion that it’s the real deal.
It is what it is and I’m sure some will dearly love it but I’m personally pretty fed up with gigantic sample libraries.
It’s 2023 and we have enough CPU Juice to emulate hardware on component level…
EOR
This topic (samplebased instruments) is a hot discussion on every forum around the world nowadays…
Many users think that 200GB grand pianos sounds better than Pianoteq v8, and, the same goes on and on…
So, the technology under the hood (that handle the samples) is more important than the different sample layers…
Overall, I’m really glad over PSP:s effort to bring great products to this mobile platform.
Maybe because they lack to knowledge to tweak the apps to sound just the way they want it to sound and in this case it's easier to grab a sample-library with sounds close to what they like? (ie. way less effort to get to the results they want or need?)
I appreciate and respects Jamal's passion in bringing out the stuff as a homage to the old gear no doubts about that!
Still I'd prefer to see the 'big ones' bring back the classic properly emulated component by component...
(ex. the SY85/TG500, SY77/99 and EX5 could each be squeezed into a ~200MB app considering the ROMs are 'small' 6MB for the SY85, 8MB for SY77/99 combined and 16MB for the EX5).
But it is what it is...
I mean sure that would be great but right now we only have what we have and for what it is, I think PSP and its IAPs are excellent and of great quality.
Yamaha, Korg, Roland, etc don’t seem interested in cloning their old classics for iOS so it’s falling on other devs and I’m glad Jamal and GM are doing what they do. It does take up a load of space and would definitely prefer modeled apps, but I’m just glad they’re taking the time to do anything at all and still bring it to iOS.
Would love to hear how it compares to King of FM though since they’re both sampling the same thing.
That would be an interesting comparison, but it would be quite hard to do since not all presets are sampled in both apps.
In the end it would all come down to 'personal preference' of the sounds included in each app
That’s true. And I think KoFM is only the 77 and not the 99, which the GM includes. If I’m not mistaken the 99 added a sampler and better effects but isn’t the underlying AFM synth the same in both? Hmm. May not need to this one, at least not urgently. Gonna wait on some demos, but my wallet might be safe for now 😎
No intro price?
The SY99 added the option to load user samples from disk, no sample editing though, just keyboard mapping and tuning and optional reverse playback of the sample.
The first demo of the SY99 heard was the infamous Chick Corea piano thing, total cheese
(That's all the official SY99 Demo Songs)
The SY99 also added a better 'cleaner' DAC compared to the one in the SY77 and an improved FX processor based on the Yamaha SPX90II which was also used in the SY85 with a few added algorithms.
Both use AWM (Sample-Playback) and AFM (FM Synth with start-phase control of the operators and possibility to use samples as operator waveforms), 16 voices of poly for each synthesis method.
Thanks for sharing that demo, it’s great in all its cheesy glory 😂
I’ll probably pick up the IAP eventually but I’m in no rush right now. Gotta get an SSD first to load all those damn PSP packs onto to free up space first. I wonder if the SY99 samples in the IAP will include patches with some samples in it. I imagine if they’re sampling factory sounds it would.
Welp, there goes another 20 quid out of my bank account lol. PSP 2 is such a beast. One of the main reasons I went with a 1TB iPhone 14 Pro Max. The large storage space needed for all of @GospelMusicians ' amazing IAPs. 😅
I love this kind of cheese. Definitely a colby-jack type of music piece.
How are you liking it mate? Also would you say it’s comparable to King of FM? I have the other 2 recent IAPs and they’re excellent so I’m sure I’ll get this one eventually I just need to decide how soon 😂
Haven't even had a chance to try it yet mate, LOL!
Price is reduced to 50% now

Day after release… I think I’ll never buy anything from Gospel Musicians on day one again.

I hope it’s an App Store/Apple thing where you can’t put an app on sale on the same day it’s released. Otherwise that’s kinda…not cool.
Lemme know now that it’s half off it’s gonna be hard to resist lol do I say f@&k it and use the last of my storage? 😂
Hmm IAP is still showing as $20. Anyone else having that issue? The standalone app is discounted but not the IAP and the last IAP for the other 2 packs had a $10 intro price. Weird…
Definitely not gonna buy until I see confirmation.
Yes, IAP still showing as £19.99 when you go to buy it in the UK.
Bought this great app today (at last)…
Sounds great!
As an Synth addict it’s almost impossible to avoid buying new stuff…
Standalone or IAP for Pure Synth? They haven’t discounted the IAP yet so I’m anxiously awaiting to buy…
Standalone for me, although I’ve got Pure Synth also…
I usually only buy inside PSP because I like the blend the sounds to make my own patches but it’s not discounted (yet?) and I don’t want to buy twice. How much storage space did it take up for you? I think the other 2 ended up being around 25gb when all is said and done
Thanks Jamal @GospelMusicians ! God bless.
Get a refund then buy again?
Yeah, that's what I did, requested refund, but still it's a strange way to handle a release. Now I'm just hoping the decision arrives before discount ends.
Just chiming in here......Would like to apologize to anyone who has felt slighted. Here are some very important takeaways from all of this:
1. Always wait for the OFFICIAL release of any product from the actual developer. That way you know exactly when a product is actually released
2. AppStore promotions and discounts work on a propagation system. Some countries see discounts before other countries and in some cases, the scheduled discounts don't propagate at the same time of the day, so some products don't see the discounts.
3. When in doubt of anything always allow the E-Mail system of the actual manufacturer website to be your #1 source of truth and not any forums, blogs, social media outlets, until it's officially stated from the manufacturer.
The reason why we do "soft" launches of our apps without an official statement or launch is because of point 2 above. Sometimes we do a launch and then we get people upset that it's not showing up in their country. Then if we do a soft launch, people are upset that the discounts are not propogating properly....Can't seem to win.....
Either way we understand your frustration and hope that Apple honors the refunds.
IAP now listed at the sale price of £9.99 in the UK.
