Woodsynth vs BLEASS Megalit

Both these wavetable synths went on sale and I was wondering how they compare, and which one would be recommended for someone new to wavetable synthesis (who is using an iPhone). “Both” isn’t an option as I’m not the one paying 🤪

I would consider getting TeraPro with all the IAPs in favor of the other two...
...it runs beautifully on the iPhone too :sunglasses:

What would make you recommend it? This is one I’m not too familiar with tbh …

For someone new to wavetable synthesis, check out PolyWave, also on sale ($6,99).
I don’t own Woodsynth, Megalit, or Polywave.

Drambo, Tera Pro, and Buttersynth were my choices.

I have the free version of polywave and I enjoy drawing the wave forms but the actual sound of it… honestly isn’t my favorite. But… I’m aware the unlock may change my mind !

I know Megalit will be easy for me to learn as omega is one of my most used synths

Not familiar with Woodsynth at all

Time to hit up YouTube lol

It's a very, very nice synth that does most synthesis methods very well and comes with a ton of presets.

The full manual is also present on the page for further exploration.

Short demo from the developer about a year ago.

Yet another option with wavetables that now runs on the iPhone is ButterSynth...

I love Bleass, but not including a wavetable editor or at least custom wavetable import was a big omission for Megalit.

Someone said that Megalit can finally import custom wavetables, but only on the desktop version. If that ever happens on iOS, it will be instabuying!

It’s over budget (not my money but I have $15 via gift card to work with )otherwise I’d grab it asap. Is this a case where I should just wait for Buttersynth to go on sale (or for me to get a couple of sales of my own lol)

I think they added that to the iOS version some time ago.

Just put the user wave-tables into iCloud Drives 'BLEASS Megalit/Wavetables/' folder and they should pop up, sub-folders are NOT supported so all wave-tables have to be directly in the Wavetables folder.

The user wavetables will be at the end of the wave-table list...

Might be thinking of BLEASS Fusion as it’s not showing up in the Megalit version history

Woodsynth is way more versatile in my opinion

That … helps a lot then! Gives me something to think about… leaning towards Megalit as I’m pretty comfortable with the UI

Of course if the project I posted in the creations section gets a sale or two It’ll make it a lot easier and I’d just get Buttersynth instead 😂

  • never used Megalit, but woodsynth is fantastic. lots of advanced features that reward deep diving and a gorgeous overall sound. one word of warning, the filter can be a bit sharp when resonance is high. i highly recommend woodsynth

  • How is the UI on an iPhone?

  • edited November 2023

never tried woodsynth on my phone, i can’t imagine it would work well...there’s a lot of knobs and large interfaces for each section. there’s an extended view for larger screens

  • Woodsynth is certainly deeper, but I use Megalit a lot more often. It gets me where I’m going a lot quicker, with a typically straightforward Bleass UI, and a great Big Electric Woooooo.

  • Wait until you can afford Tera Pro, would be my advice, and get that. Amazing synth, very deep and flexible. It was it that Samu shared video of earlier btw, it seemed at a certain point when you were referring to buttersynth you were actually talking about Tera Pro. Tera Pro has had loads of IAPs which keep making it more powerful all the time. Getting those IAPs when they are on sale will basically be equivalent to buying another synth. You're into sound designing so a synth like Tera that allows you to combine tons of synth types in one app will give you better value and more fun in the long run than a dedicated synth that only does one thing well, I reckon.

Thank you for that … would you say Tera Pro would be more essential than Butter Synth? Because at this point it’s between those two for me !

If so, which IAP would be most beneficial?

I haven't really used buttersynth tbh! No reason really other than too many apps and not enough time.

For IAPs for Tera Pro, you're going to want the wavetable one surely! Then maybe just buy the others on sale over time in the order in which they most appeal to you and depending what else you have? I think all the IAPs are highly regarded, again, I have been limited in how much time I was able to spend playing with these, the BrainZ one is the one I have used most, I really like those kind of sounds.

Tera Pro is definitely sth you'll likely need / want to read the manual for, as if you don't, there will likely be features you don't notice. That's another good reason to buy it maybe, if on a budget, as there's a lot to explore and to keep you busy.

Honestly best to just get a few good tools and dive in deep. Tera plus all IAPs could keep you busy for years if you wanted it to.

  • As someone who’s owned the original Tera and didn’t love it (I don’t think I’ve used it in more than one track ever) - am I gonna like Tera Pro? Many say it’s the best... tempted by sale. But other things tempting me too... I’d probably get 1-2 iaps for Tera. Waves & ?

I think I made it about a minute and a half in and I’m like…ok I’m sold ! Gonna check out the fm module too as I’m curious on how it compares to Kq Dixie

Tera Pro w IAPs , Drambo w IAPs, SynthMaster 2, Buttersynth, Woodsynth, Polywave w IAP and of course Wavetable in Ableton…all valid and powerful in their own way, I didn’t bother with Megalit cuz of the no WT import, and I don’t bother with iCloud so that’s out for me.

  • Megalit is okay, but others have described its shortcomings above. I don't know Woodsynth well enough yet.

I still haven't dove deep into Tera Pro just yet, but it seems like a great semi-modular synth. Thing is a BEAST! Buttersynth is also nice, but Tera Pro's routing system makes everything easy to hook up and make noise with (once you get the hang of the UI and workflow that is).

They did finally add this thankfully

  • I love the sound and features of Woodsynth but the UI is its downfall. It’s not easy to navigate and I still haven’t completely learned it and I’ve had it for some time now. The dev has lots of videos on YouTube channel about it though and seems like a great guy!

I love Bleass and have basically every app they’ve made. And I think Megalit is great but it’s their worst synth, imo. That’s not to say it’s horrible, it just doesn’t compare to Omega or Alpha for me.

My favorite wavetable synth is Buttersynth by far. And it does FM and subtractive as well. Veeeery feature rich and easy to navigate. Tera Pro is great as well, but its UI is not nearly as easy as Buttersynth, imo.

One that I haven’t seen mentioned yet is Electribe Wave. It may actually be my second favorite AU wavetable synth. Lastly, Drambo of course 😂
