I grabbed it today.I think for the price it can’t be beat. It’s pretty nice sounding. It’s great they brought this to the iPad too.I just not too in love with these gold knobs..

Have fun! SM2 would definetly be my choice of stand-alone desert island synth.

Imagine the possibilities with this as a hardware synth… with dedicated controls for each function and larger screen showing envelopes and stuff….sometimes we tend to forget how deep our apps are… they look so small on the screen….

This synth will be my AUv3 Thor:) Yes, we are very spoiled these days. I totally think this synth is amazing.

Can’t you change UI in settings (to avoid golden knobs)?

Wow the dark theme is so much better than the default blue theme. Thank you for pointing this out!

  • IMO Synthmaster 2 is one of the best and cleanest sounding synths on iOS. The preset management is quite awkward to get used to, a user manual was promised over two years ago but never materialised, but if you follow this procedure you won’t go wrong:
If you edit a preset and want to save it -
    1. Tap SAVE/SAVE PRESET AS/NEW BANK and create a bank, now rename the preset it and tap SAVE.
    2. Next tap INFO (top left of screen), type in your bank name then tap SAVE (above Browse), this preset will now slot into the chosen bank.

IMPORTANT - each preset you save must start with a prefix number, eg -
    00 New Preset,
    01 My Dist Guitar,
    02 etc
Your preset browser will THEN display these presets as -

    00 00 New Preset
    01 01 My Dist Guitar
    02 02 etc

The imperative reason for prefix numbering is because Synthmaster (both One & 2) automatically stores presets alphabetically in the libraries and if you intend using Midi Program Change in your projects, entering just “00” without prefixing them first will load “etc” instead of “New Preset” (sorry for being so literal).
Once you have created a Bank, tap BROWSE/cog icon (top right of screen) ASSIGN PRESETS TO MIDI BANK. Do this every time you create a new preset in this bank otherwise you won’t be able to call it up with Midi Prog Change.
Believe me - if you don’t do this you will regret it because all your future projects will call up the wrong presets each time if ever you purchase new Factory Presets (IAP)
    Good luck

    @rapidfire That sounds really horrible!
Should not be fixed in a future project, but NOW !

It basically renders this Synth useless, as you always may bomb your own work - probably unknown first.

If you take a look on the KVR301forum, you will see how many complaints have been made about the poor preset management, many have said they would NEVER buy another KVR331 product, the developers insist a user manual is almost finished and will be issued with next update…er…that was 2 years ago btw!

  • The one thing about SM2 is it sounds so good and I would rather put up with the clumbersome preset saving than not have it all, but I won’t get SM3

The drama! It doesn’t render the synth useless. It is inconvenient but most hosts have preset storage and recall that can be used instead of SM2’s internal preset recall system.

  • The preset management workaround isn't that bad. Took a lot of work and lost work to discover how to do it initially, but it's just a workflow adjustment in the end. Hopefully it'll get addressed at some point, but as was also said you can usually bypass in app presets for in host presets anyway.

The synth is amazing, a little challenging to program but worth it to learn.

This is my thinking. Unless SM3 is an absolute game changer somehow, I won’t be buying. I love the sound of 1 and 2 and don’t regret buying them but the occasional crash, the UI, preset management, etc along with the lack of fixes is a no go for me.

Count on the facts that Synthmaster v3 will be fantastic, and, something we all will buy (if we can financially) - SM3 will put iPad synthesizer to a whole new level, never seen before…

And, FYI, as I wrote earlier, Synthmaster 1 and Synthmaster One isn’t the same products…

Yes I’m aware of that. What about my comment made you think I was saying 1 and 2 were the same app? I don’t think I even insinuated as such…

I hope you’re right about 3. I’d love to see it be a game changer. It’s just gonna have to be huge for me to take the plunge.

  • Is anyone having issues with 'All' Synthmasters and Bleass Arpeggiator, stuck notes? Does anyone have a fix?

But, perhaps you’ve gotten SM1 earlier in your musical life…

I still don’t see how that equals you thinking I’m equating them to the same app?

Also there is definitely a Synthmaster One on iOS. I’m looking at it in the App Store right now and it’s been installed on my iPad for quite some time now…played it many times.

Perhaps A LOT of misunderstanding here…

Synthmaster in iteration version 1.x (that later was developed to version 2.x) isn’t the same as Synthmaster One (that is a lighter version of big brother, and, less powerful & cheaper)…

Right, but generally on the forum everyone refers to those apps as SM 1 and 2 respectively. Never seen anyone use it to refer to V1 of Synthmaster. Thought it was clear I was referring to the iOS apps since I mentioned I didn’t have desktop…

SM2 (iOS) crashes unexpectedly and often if using too many instances in the same project, this is why it is important to save edited presets you intend using instead of relying on a hosts recall system.i
It took me months to figure out the SAVE process that actually worked, the other issue in saving presets in SM2 is the annoying ability in creating duplicates that you can’t delete, the only way round this is by creating a new folder and name it DUPLICATES, then go into Info and change the offending preset bank to this name.

Buttersynth can do what SM2 does as well, much easier to program, BUT not nearly as many presets and heavier on the CPU.

I'd say that ButterSynth can do a lot of what SM2 does, but it does not have nearly as many modulation sources nor routing options. Although SM2 doesn't have any granular synth options, no sample playing, nor explicit subbass option. And the biggest feature missing from SM2 that BS has is wavetable FM. @kv331audio, can we get modulators with wavetables please?

You CAN load your own samples into SM2 (iOS 😉), the information is shown in the illusive user manual 🤭

To add a single sample - open your folder in the Files app, name/add the note letter and octave range-

    FLUTE.E3.wav (example)

Now launch SM2 and select INIT PRESET, drag the Files app up from the bottom of the screen (keep SM2 open) and place it on the right, search for your named sample and drag/drop it on the wave file display window (a green + will show next to file if allowed), tweak it and save it to your SM2 bank. This single wav will automatically scan the entire keyboard starting from the note letter, but if you prefer to use more samples at set note intervals to give you more realistic sounds, then do this -

Create or prepare your samples in your folder in Files app, now name them as follows-

    Multi.C2.wav
    Multi.E2.wav
    Multi.A2.wav
And so on, BUT don’t use # or b for sharp and flat notes, SM2 won’t recognise them.
Now drag/drop these Multi.wav’s onto the oscillator window one after the other and they will all reside in the same SM2 folder. Don’t worry about not naming the multi samples, you will be giving this preset a name anyway.

  • I hope you also reported it to the dev 🙏🏽

I lost a full day work and sweat buckets (had a show in a few days) before I figured out a solution to the preset problem. I couldn't find a single solution online back in May, just 1 complaint to the developer, so I posted what I found and made sure the developer knew.

He's listening, but also just a one man show for what is quite a large project. So squeaky wheels get whatever grease he has left while working on SM3.

Personally I'll get 3 when it arrives. I haven't had any other showstopping issues, it sounds pretty amazing, and I can use it on desktop too.

What worries me about SM3 is if there are bugs in a more powerful iOS synth, how the hell is he going to sort them out, I have lost count how many bugs I reported for both Synthmasters (iPad), it took months to get fixes! My biggest problem was Midi Mappings would mysteriously disappear one by one and no matter how many times they were remapped, different midi parameters would start disappearing, it still does it now but not as often.
    So, will I purchase SM3 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

  • Are you Multicube on KV331? I remember seeing posts about disappearing midi mappings...

Thankfully not an issue I've dealt with but sounds super frustrating, sorry. I've only ever midi mapped SM2 in Drambo and it's been rock solid for 6 months of performing. What host do you use? Loopy pro hasn't shown trouble yet either.

Yeah, I get it, big programs require big maintenance and he certainly hasn't been quick. I guess it comes down to whatever showstopper bugs you find, if you can find workarounds, and how much effort is a product really worth to us. I wanted to love Zenbeats with all my heart but it let me down time after time. Maybe next year.

I'll personally always give a product as many chances as it has features I like. Sometimes you get lucky and it's only the rock solid features that you use anyway.

Same here with Zenbeats. I love it in theory and think the UI and workflow is great but was experiencing too many stability issues and lost multiple projects so I went back to Cubasis. Hopefully next year, as you say.

I’m most likely gonna by SM3 but it’s not gonna be an insta-buy. Gonna wait to hear everyone’s thoughts and reviews first to make sure there no showstopping bugs.

Is there even an ETA for SM3 on iOS?
