If you've ever heard about the magic that plugins like Soothe can do, this is what TB EQ can get close to.
One example is to add an EQ at a certain resonant frequency that will only reduce gain at that frequency when the signal in that range goes above a certain threshold.
It's a very powerful method to apply EQing dynamically without destroying the overall sound.
A while ago I've talked to the developer about dynamic gain modulation in both directions (for signal dependent band boosting and cutting) and a few months later they actually implemented it! I was more than happy to see that 😃
EQing dynamically Is not so easy , it is a mastering technic indeed less you use compressor more you use the dynamic EQ better is it. There are no magic or science as it doesn’t apply to all projects just to use this type of technics. Your mix must be very good to do that. For what type of music do you apply it ?
Of course! The EQ should follow your intentions and you better have a very clear idea of what you want to achieve first. And I agree that proper mixing comes first, no matter what music style.
Yeah soon as I can afford to do so I’m definitely getting their EQ !
Take a look at Toneboosters' MBC also. It's an EQ with compression and saturation. It can be complimentary to EQ or a replacement (in my case).

Thanks a lot. The way I was using it not to leave anyone wondering what I did with it prior was whenever I would EQ something in the mix, and I saw the Q level was overlapping, instead of messing too much with the dB gain, I tried to chain it with the dynamics/compression stuff. I figured that would let them “speak to each others” to “give elbow room” ( or headroom lol)
I saw it kind of like sidechaining for dynamics in a sense
But that’s just a relative way of looking at it, whcih is why I had to ask . And Toneboosters is definitely worth their weight, they punch way above their weight class
All I ever needed was barricade and EQ (but I got klevgrand apps to polish things like GF2 really helps me master and Brusfri really really removes noise like 100%; I would’ve got tb de esser but I got klevgrand espresso , but they’re probably equally good )
Thanks again rs
Yeah that one looks crucial too!
MBC type compressor are dedicated to mastering usually, in analog hardware they are far more expensive , around 10 k USD that classical bus compressor. Just know that it is for mastering this type of compressor not to use to mix buses.
I say that that many doesn’t know why you when to use MBC type compressors. It is better to take 1 hour reading how MBC compressors work before using it. Reading is part of the process before using specific tools and human nature tend to go directly to action…
I don’t like rules in audio as some great mixes out of rules can create great stuff and some audio engineers sometimes break this rule but they know why and only from time to time.
Right. Use MBC when you’re happy with your mix. And with Logic Pro you wouldn’t need to get all of these extra apps, you could use their own built-in tools to mix and master.
