Yeah. It’s a neat idea i just have a workflow issue with the sync model to actually use the assets.

Seems like the app should just be on both platforms or at least allow Sharing of Processed audio clips via P2P when an internet connection isn’t available.

I’ll stick with Loopmix and Playbeat3 on both platforms for now.

One last thing from me - the field recorder app isn't the only way to get samples into the desktop app. You can import any content from your desktop (up to 15 seconds per sample) or record directly from your main DAW. So you can use any recording app on your phone and transfer it to your desktop in whatever way possible - then import it.

Yeah...I think that's a good call. The companion app is a convenience at this stage. It would be great if you could actually use the iPhone app to edit/tweak and organize your Samples...a way to prepare everything ahead of time. I don't know what it offers since I don't have the Desktop app so I'm not sure what the features are in the app.

So saw a preview for the Life Plugin. Looked amazing. Is there an app that can do something like this?

Elsewhere someone mentioned loopmix as 'more advanced than Life' ... I have no opinion personally.

Thanks I just watched a few videos for loopmix. I could see it doing a lot of what life can do but a little more advanced. Definitely going to have to save up and get loopmix.

    Ok.

I have to eat my words. XLN Life if pretty slick. It took some of my mumbles and hums and gave me a great drum track to build on top of. Super cool.

Yeah sounds pretty cool .. sometimes, maybe. The circle looks like Patterning though. Too expensive for me atm but might give the trial a try.

I already have Serato Sample and a Lite version of Loopmix but haven't used both yet. Maybe I should play with these first and see if I can come up with something similar, so maybe no need for XLN Life.

Have a few of their other apps too, Addictive Drums is the one I use the most.

Apps like this make me kinda miss having a desktop around sometimes. I’m working on building my hardware setup back up when the wife and I move to a bigger place. I may have to grab a desktop eventually too.

  • there was a lot of discussion about these terms over at Gearspace, they've changed them obviously because of the complaints they received

  • I’ve been messing with glitchy chops from my hombrew valve sessions in the desktop demo, blooming great fun, I just hope I make some cash before they do a sale on this!

Paid $100, on sale at Sweetwater right now, worth WAY more than price 💯
THIS app is a ”gamechangier” in every sense of the word.
    Mind-freaking-blowing!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Why so?

  • Not to derail but is XLN porting addictive drums over to iOS? Any clues?

  • Curious how this is a game changier, while it’s on sale :)!!

Have you tried the demo by chance?
It takes audio like tapping of fingers, beatbox or random noises around the house than organizes it into a beat. You can tweak many parameters like swing and the individual hits into material you probably never would have thought of. I have also dropped melodic material in it. Life is like a randomized arpeggiator for audio. Best way to understand is try it!

  • I’m not sure to understand why it is a “game changer”…I can do something similar in a very easy way on my IPad…or what!

  • Interesting. From their website ad for Life. Take a potentially interesting piece of field recording, ‘walking on gravel’. And turn it into an identikit ‘beat’. Might as well reached for the DAW loop library and save yourself a couple of steps..,

I find Life’s random patterns and sound recognition algorithms to be a recipe for serendipity! The fun is throwing trash into it and Life returning it as inspiring grooves that new song ideas can be built from. I’m hearing all kinds of ideas to play with when I hit random. I also love tweaking parameters and exporting alternative versions of grooves, it’s like you have enough variations for a full track.

Can you sample a little groove or small little loop or pattern to hear what it’s like? If you want

Is XLN working on anything else for iOS ?

  • It sounds like it’s slicing, processing slices (eg repitching), then arranging the slices. Doing all this automatically which is convenient. I think there are a lot of ways to do these things. I’d be curious if the slicing is essentially pulling out one shots or whether it pulls out slices that are more complex (like little phrases).

It’s pulling one shots, using AI to determine what type of sound it is (kick-like, snare-like, etc.), making a pattern, adding swing, and tempo. As you tap Random, you receive different grooves. It’s so much fun!

Yeah, I’m usually not a fan of automated stuff but this one got me, it’s instantly satisfying and you can tweak it to your hearts content, and even just program your own beat and use the macro controls to blend it out into insane variety…

Same here, this one is just right for me 💪🏼

  • Sounds damn cool if you ask me

  • I really love the demos of this, but I've got a policy now of only buying music apps that run on iOS.

If and when it runs completely on iOS (not just the field recorder bit), then I'll be buying it

  • Can someone tl;dr: this for me?
Love the idea of a field recorder that finds “kicks” and “snares” in my audio and does little loops.
App itself is free, haven’t tried. What’s the catch?
Only usable on desktop? For $100?

Yes, desktop is required. Desktop app does the processing and allows for edits and randomization. This seems like it would be a great iPad app. Editing on an iPhone might be crammed.

I see, that’s what I feared. But many thanks for replying. And yeah this would be pretty cool on ipad
