What genre of music do you create?
Hey, what’s up everyone!! This is such a diverse place and I would like to get to know everybody’s musical tastes. What genre of music do you specialize in? And how do you achieve your sound? Feel free to chime in.

Apparently I create brain injury blues…
I specialise in electronic genres such as EDM, Ambient, Pop, HipHop, Lofi, but I'm open to experimenting with more genres.
Some kind of Indie Rock / Alternative. With guitars, synths, and vocals.
Jazz, classical, electronic. All improvised. My tastes expand outwards from Chinese opera to rap.
Ambient...
Techno (club oriented, fast stuff like Rene Wise)
But now trying to learn and transition to producing trap / rage beats (like Carti's label Opium)
I guess what I create is based on Dark Synthwave / Cyberpunk. I also been playing heavy metal for a longtime.
Awesome. My main genre is HipHop especially sample driven Boom Bap. As of now experimenting with different sounds, incorporating all I learned and seeking to learn more.
I usually answer “experimental ambient” when asked, though I feel it’s woefully inadequate. Especially as a lot of it isn’t really ambient, nor is it really experimental, in that the techniques have been around for ages. But I can’t think of a better description, and it’s a useful shorthand.
As for how I achieve my sound, it varies. I use a mix of iPad instruments and effects, alongside some hardware instruments. I seem to be drawn to oddball or quirky instruments, eg MiRack (virtual modular) and iVCS3, Fluss and Lines, Mother 32, Subharmonicon and DFAM, Wingie 2 and Cadence. Etc.
One of these maybe?
From genres featured in the Paléo Festival, an annual music festival in Switzerland, since 2017.
Electroshock afro psych cumbia from outer space
* Electro experience in uncharted territories
Imperial electro
Angry post-Brexit punk rock
* Agitated Celtic punk
Screaming lapidary punk
“arabesque fusion”
I haven't really thought about it.
On my SoundCloud page I just call it all "Paulieworld".
There is probably a name for it, I just don't know what it is.
A melting pot
Jack of all genres, master of none…
Post-genre music?
autumn/winter: EBM (not to be confused with EDM) / darkwave
spring/summer: goa trance
I tend to vary in all my experimental…experiments 😂
Sometimes is dark ambient, sometimes droney, sometimes harsh noise, sometimes more new wave post punk annd proto industrial experimental music like The Residents, Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle. Sometimes there’s IDM annd EDM influence, or house, techno, dungeon synth, and especially drum n bass.
Also a jazz slant. I’ve always LOVED more experimental jazz albums by people like Alice Coltrane, Mingus, Miles Davis, Pharaoh, Ornette Coleman, etc. And I often try to incorporate those influences as well. Think jazz drums and horns over harsh noise and drones 😂
Hey, I'm also in the Paulieworld genre, although with touches of retro/futuristic hybrid full-on forum-core.
Noise
EBM - like KMFDM? I've been a huge fan of KMFDM since I first heard "Juke Joint Jezebel" off of the Mortal Kombat movie soundtrack. If that's EBM, I want to hear what you've produced recently.
And I love me some Goa. What's your Soundcloud/Bandcamp?
EDIT: Wish @iOSTRAKON was still around these parts. He's from Skinny Puppy, also known for EBM.
Wait he was actually IN Skinny Puppy??
Libertarian Hip Hop and Zapatist Ska Punk 😂😂👍🏻
If memory serves proper, yes he was. I miss him a lot. I also miss @ReneAsologuitar . They both brought so much good positive energy to this forum (and in Trakon's case, lots of noise and distortion of the excellent variety).
That’s awesome never knew that! But it makes perfect sense now that you mention it.
And yes I miss them both and good they’re both doing well, even if they never return.
I think @iOSTRAKON still posts on IG occasionally, though not super often.
Wish I had an IG account. I think I do, but it's been so long I've probably forgotten the password. Trying to stay away from and limit my time on social media as much as I can. I do a good job of it, but then I'm often hanging out here in the ABF.
Haha I use IG mostly for music related content and weird surrealist art, absurd humor, etc. don’t really engage in the typical social media aspect of the app. If you stay away from that it’s actually really fun. And I plan on posting short tracks on there starting next year.
Sounds like a plan to me. I'll just stay away from IG myself, lol. I just know it'll suck up half of my day each day if I allow it to do so.
Wise. I quite like it, and I’ve connected with a whole bunch of great people on there, but it eats time. I now tend to only check it every other day, and often skip it at the weekend. Plus there’s a depressing number of bots/scammers on there, which gets tiresome.
I don’t know. I put notes together.
