EBM - like KMFDM? I've been a huge fan of KMFDM since I first heard "Juke Joint Jezebel" off of the Mortal Kombat movie soundtrack. If that's EBM, I want to hear what you've produced recently.

And I love me some Goa. What's your Soundcloud/Bandcamp?

EDIT: Wish @iOSTRAKON was still around these parts. He's from Skinny Puppy, also known for EBM.

Wait he was actually IN Skinny Puppy??

If memory serves proper, yes he was. I miss him a lot. I also miss @ReneAsologuitar . They both brought so much good positive energy to this forum (and in Trakon's case, lots of noise and distortion of the excellent variety).

That’s awesome never knew that! But it makes perfect sense now that you mention it.

And yes I miss them both and good they’re both doing well, even if they never return.

I think @iOSTRAKON still posts on IG occasionally, though not super often.

Wish I had an IG account. I think I do, but it's been so long I've probably forgotten the password. Trying to stay away from and limit my time on social media as much as I can. I do a good job of it, but then I'm often hanging out here in the ABF.

Haha I use IG mostly for music related content and weird surrealist art, absurd humor, etc. don’t really engage in the typical social media aspect of the app. If you stay away from that it’s actually really fun. And I plan on posting short tracks on there starting next year.

Sounds like a plan to me. :) I'll just stay away from IG myself, lol. I just know it'll suck up half of my day each day if I allow it to do so.

Wise. I quite like it, and I’ve connected with a whole bunch of great people on there, but it eats time. I now tend to only check it every other day, and often skip it at the weekend. Plus there’s a depressing number of bots/scammers on there, which gets tiresome.

I didn't even think about the bots on there. But yes, if I recall correctly, there are scammers "visual artists" on there who follow you, pester you in private messages to offer to create a profile pic and banner, won't take "no", "I can make my own in Procreate", and "sod off" for an answer. I ended up having to block them, and eventually I just left IG alone.

The only social media I use is Facebook Messenger to keep in contact with family, friends, and business contacts. That's it really.

Sometimes I open Facebook main just out of curiosity and close it within 5 seconds or less after rolling my eyes. Rivetting posts like "wah, I'm depressed today because I stubbed my toe", "my pet just died", to pictures of food at a restaurant with the words "best meal ever" (food pics are fine if you cooked it yourself, and no, microwaving leftovers doesn't count lol). One time, one of my family members even posted a pic of pumped breast milk for her then newborn child. 😬 That's a "hella don't".

Not to mention countless stupid political memes meant to provoke a negative response which I couldn't give a rat's arse about (and I'm not taking any sides here, I am against politics in my feed in general). And don't even get me started on the "It's Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays" karens and kevins out there.

And this goes for all social media platforms, not just Facebook (which by comparison to the likes of X is far tamer if you can believe it).

His last post there is Oct 2022. I think he might have decided to just cut off contact with the social media world, for whatever reason, I hope he's doing OK.

Can't blame him really. He hasn't been active here since July of this year either, and I think Trakon's last reply was Oct of last year (around the time he stopped posting to IG). I think a social media cleanse is good for everyone once in a while, although I'd say over a year is a bit too much of a break. Makes us wonder, you know?

  • My genre is unfinished crap

  • I love all the names people come up with for genres. I hate trying to say what genre a particular piece of music belongs to…especially my own.

I suppose I aspire to creating power pop, but I end up creating surf, synthwave, and dad blues.

I don’t have certain days or times to get on but it’s usually only 3-4 days a week at most and usually for much less than an hour. YouTube eats my time more than anything.

Same here. I could use blanket terms to try and fit my music into genres, but I don't always stick to a defined genre. Too limiting.

I suppose I aspire to creating power pop, but I end up creating surf, synthwave, and dad blues.

I love Synthwave myself. Even have a 4-track EP based on Synthwave vibes (although only the first track is blatantly Synthwave while the others are hybrid genres inspired by Synthwave).

Same with me. Then again, most of my Youtube watching are travel vlogs like Abroad in Japan, art channels like SuperRaeDizzle and Jazza (sorry NerdECrafter, but you became an unboxing channel now, which sucks), and music-related videos about producing music (duh), people using their software and hardware, product demonstrations and reviews, turorials, etc.

And out of all the gear videos I've watched, only the OP-1 (OG and Field) gave me GAS. It's fun to see what else is out there though. I like Ocean, Andrew Huang, Red Means Recording, TheSoundTestRoom, Jakob Haq, Hainbach, watching Deadmau5 interviews (dude has no filter and gives zero f--ks, even lighting up a cigarette in the middle of one of his interviews 😂), and watching Epic Rap Battles of History (they just released a new one).

Also countless HipHop music videos. Man, Busta Rhymes still got it.

Three generations of rappers killin the hell out of a beat is phenomenal!

I don’t have certain days or times to get on but it’s usually only 3-4 days a week at most and usually for much less than an hour. YouTube eats my time more than anything.

Man I didn’t know epic rap battles of history was still a thing! I gotta get caught up haha.

My watch list is all over the place. Commentary, interviews, horror related stuff, music and film related videos, video games, restoration videos, history, etc etc. There’s so many good content and content creators that it’s hard to keep up honestly.

Indeed. Horror related stuff? Like Dark Somnium? :)

Haven’t heard of that one yet 😯 I watch a lot of Nexpo, Nick Crowley, Wendigoon, Papa Meat, Dead Meat, Ryan Hollinger to name a few 😅

Oh god, Papa Meat. 🤣 Was he formerly known as Meat Canyon or something like that mate?

EBM - like KMFDM? I've been a huge fan of KMFDM since I first heard "Juke Joint Jezebel" off of the Mortal Kombat movie soundtrack. If that's EBM, I want to hear what you've produced recently.

And I love me some Goa. What's your Soundcloud/Bandcamp?

Haven’t heard of that one yet 😯 I watch a lot of Nexpo, Nick Crowley, Wendigoon, Papa Meat, Dead Meat, Ryan Hollinger to name a few 😅

Oh god, Papa Meat. 🤣 Was he formerly known as Meat Canyon or something like that mate?

Still is! That’s just his second channel where he does more horror related commentary and other videos. Really good, just different than the batshit craziness of his (amazing) animation 😂

Ah now I see. Yeah, Meat's animations are not something I'd want to see while high lol. It'd f up my high lol.

Speaking of animated stuff, you ever heard of Cyriak before?

I’ve done it before and it’s….kinda fun lol but ONLY in the right state of mind. If it’s one of those anxious highs definitely avoid at all costs 🤣

And yes! He’s super talented too but I wish he’d upload more. He’s had like 3 videos in the last 2 years lol. Jack Stauber and PilotRedSun are great too but like Cyriak have slowed their output drastically 😔

    I don’t know. I put notes together.

The year is 2023. Still using old fashioned concepts such as notes. Not doing music by sampling a pig getting its throat cut, then passing it trough a granular synth, a bit crusher, delays and loops until it resembles radio static noise.

Get on with the times old man!!! J/k

  • I’m still figuring out what kind of music I do.

For now I would guess it could be called ambient / neoclassical. But who knows…

autumn/winter: EBM (not to be confused with EDM) / darkwave
    spring/summer: goa trance

I don’t have certain days or times to get on but it’s usually only 3-4 days a week at most and usually for much less than an hour. YouTube eats my time more than anything.

I don’t have a fixed schedule, but weekends are difficult because that’s when I’m with my partner, and it feels weird sitting there with headphones on listening to stuff on social media while we’re together.

@jwmmakerofmusic I’m quite ruthless these days about blocking accounts that don’t look real, or that mither me via PM the minute I follow them. I need to do a thorough purge of who I follow, though, as I get a lot of stuff I’m not madly interested in cluttering up my feed due to following people out of politeness early on when I started on there. Some people are just on there to garner follows, which is annoying. I’m not there to be a notch on someone’s social media bedpost, as it were! 🤣

  • Personally I think he’s someone else who got banned and had an alternate account

My definition: experimentalist. In life, in music.

Exactly! My highs can go from relaxed into anxious if I watch the right video, and yeah. Meat's animations are not something I want to watch while high, lol.

Yeah, that's sad. Cyriak however seems to carefully take his time with his animations these days, but then again he's probably more up in age than we are, maybe in his 50s or 60s by now. :)

LOL! Exactly mate. If I return to IG, I must do the same and unfollow people who post things I don't like. I actually should do this with Facebook main (although the beauty of FB main is I can unfollow someone while remaining their friend). Not sure if IG has such a handy feature.
