Here are some more great playlists for info and inspo regarding the OP-1 (which can also apply to the Field).
And of course Red Means Recording's tutorials for the og OP-1.
And different OP-1 videos from RMR that show off what can be made in it.
I haven't done anything of substance in my OP-1 Field today. It's been just a lazy day sadly.

Next track completed. I've still only scratched the surface with digging into the OP-1 Field. Not quite fluent yet.
But it's like learning a new language.
And now...to get high and start making my next track! 🤪 (I made this Lofi House one "sober". But I wanna really let loose and do something bonkers!)
I'm not sure if I asked this elsewhere on the forum, but does anyone know what the limits are when it comes to loading drum samples? I'm not talking specifically about the storage the OP-1 Field has, but rather how many slots for drums.
EDIT: Speaking of loading drums, I found out that MTP mode doesn't work for beans. However I can load drums via Disk mode (shift+com, then shift+T4 instead of pressing T4).
Man, op1.fun has so many drum packs on there! 😲
As far as the limit for drum samples, I'm not sure what you mean. Each drum sample would be a file you would load with 24 drum sounds in it which will be sliced and mapped to the 24 keys. Each file can be 20 seconds long.
As far as Snapshots go, I haven't seen any official numbers, hopefully someone here will know. I've made plenty of my own and haven't run out of room. I think the original Op-1 had room for 42 drum Snapshots and 100 synth Snapshots. I assume the Op-1field has at least that much space.
Sorry if that's no help but also you could do a search at op forums, there will probably be some information there.
Maybe that's what I meant were snapshots. Or slots for samples. Or something like that, lol.
Okay, will check it out there.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Meanwhile, this is a dope af video! Man making a beat in the park with his og OP-1, and wait'll you see what happens!
Alrighty, so I created two new tracks in my OP-1 Field today for my upcoming EP. One is a 1980s-esque piece of music I titled "Linn Manual no Miranda", a play on the name of an incredible broadway music composer and the Linn Drum (which I feature heavily). I used various sequencers to get everything synced in time.
The other is a Lofi HipHop track (big f--king surprise there rofl) called "Monday". Unlike "Linn Manual no Miranda", I avoided using sequencers on the track. The entire timing and beat is wonky, sloppy, off-kilter, with gaps after each section - just the way I intended it to be.
(The metronome came in handy for the production of "Monday".)
Of course both tracks were recorded into and mastered in Logic Pro for iPad. That Mastering Assistant alone is worth $5/month, and I'm normally against subscription pricing. I mean, other online mastering services charge $5 or more per track , and with all the tracks I've been producing this week, that would cost me a sh-tload more than a mere $5/month. Easy peasy, just hook the OP-1 Field up to the iPad's USB-C port, then open Logic and start a new project, and boom. It automatically has the OP-1 Field as an input source.
I'm having a late supper now (it's past 8pm my timezone lol), but definitely worth it. Now I must decide...do I want to play Animal Crossing after supper and getting high, or do I want to break out my OP-1 Field again and go for a third track? Perhaps something Ambient.![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Super excited to hear these tracks! Love the track name 🤣 excellent stuff.
Personally I’d say go for broke and play animal crossing AND make an ambient track 😜
I ended up...falling asleep. 😂
Still man, the thread I’m most interested in now and keep coming back for more is this one. It’s my bookmark - I have never been more interested in someone’s first days with a new musical apparatus
Awesome tracks. I really loved the first one especially
I hope you get your bearings and start having fun making fun ha
Thank you so much mate.
That means a lot to me.
Thanks again.
I'm glad you like what you hear.
Actually I have been having fun, just working on getting the bearings part.
But having fun while doing so mate.
Haha I don’t blame you. Nothing like a post 🍃 type of sleep 😂
Facts! I got high a little earlier today and planned to make a new track and...nothing. I took a nap. 🤣
You needed the nap for inspiration 😂
I'm a strange bloke lol. Nap in the afternoon, but have insomnia at night. 😂 Case in point...
Sounding good friend![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
And you’re preaching to the choir there. I work night shift so I’m up all night every night 😆
That is going to be sick dude. Your really getting the feel of the machine; fluency .
LOL! Night shift is hardcore. My father used to work night shift as well. Best of luck working those shifts.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Exactly. Still working on fluency, but it's getting there!![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Very nice! Makes me want one haha
Oh believe me, the OP-1 Field is an amazing piece of kit. I'm becoming more fluent with it with each project, and it's just a sh-tload of fun for me personally. Of course, the tape workflow is definitely not to everyone's taste, nor is the price tag. So if you're not exactly sure of the workflow, definitely check the videos above (other than the one I posted last night lol).
Should help you decide if you have GAS or not for the OP-1 Field.
Thanks my friend ❤️ I actually love night shift but the older I get the harder it is on my body. Definitely would like to be in day shift before I’m 40 lol
I hear that mate. I'm gonna be 40 in March. Exciting times really. That said, my heart and brain are still young, but my back. Oof, I need to lose some weight. 😂
Those back problems will get you lol. Mine is mostly my knees and back.
Honestly I’m glad I’m not in my 20s anymore. The 20s are overhyped, imo. You’re broke and everything sucks lol. The 30s and 40s are the sweet spots.
Exactly 💯! My 20s were okay, made a lot of good music (although my production abilities sucked back then, so the recordings are basically sh-te 🤣 ), and tasted alcohol once 21. My 30s have been a great time for personal growth as a person and musician. No idea what my 40s have in store for me, but we shall see. ☺️
You seem very comfortable now so I she a feeling your 40s will be a good time
I wish you all the best in them 🍻
I try to tell all the young folks that think they should have it all figured out by time they’re 24 just relax. NO ONE has it figured out in their 20s.
Hijacking your diary so I don't have to start my own
Winter beat making in the woods, 5 hours of jamming in 32°F and the battery only went down 7%. Nice. 3 hours of reading a book on my iPhone later that night drained the battery 35%. 😲
This just looks fantastic. Enjoy![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Thanks mate. 🍻
Exactly! Who has everything figured out by their 20s? Unless they're a child prodigy or something. 🤣
Such a lovely time mate! I'm jealous!
Next track being worked on. Just a loop at the moment, but will soon be a full track!
