Listened to this again today. After the first few notes, I always expect Thurston Moore or Kim Gordon's voice to pop up, but your voice doesn't disappoint, such a great track !
Yeah! Here’s a playlist I made. It’s on wacktify but you can find me on all the platforms
For these tracks I’d say 95% were stock Logic instruments. The rest are DRC, Viking Synth, and Monolit. I’m actually surprised that they’re all free too. Can you tell I made these before joining the forum? 💀
If you’re into darkwave and electro check out the rest of my stuff. It’s pretty much just stock Logic and GarageBand instruments
Edit: forgot to mention I used hardware on a few tracks (guitar, theremini, and minilogue bass)
Listening now and really digging it so far! It’s definitely right up my alley. The stock Logic instruments are really fantastic. Are you using the amp sims for the guitar also?
Wears Black is a fantastic track!
Thank you! I’m glad you like the songs :-) The only track with actual guitar is Where The Stars Flow and we used hardware pedals. I do recommend the Amp Designer though! It’s great for all sorts of things
Yeah I thought the amp, reverb, and delay designers were all really great!
I’m so glad you noticed the outro!. It’s my favorite part. One of those moments where you sort of wished that you had given it more importance, even make it the center of the song. Also a good example of the amazing stuff you can do on a DAW nowadays. The tempo at the outro ramps up from 162bpm to 180bpm, with just a tempo track line the results are perfect.
Yeah, it should be for whatever moves you at that point. Love, politics, food… whatever gets your guts going!. I’d actually love it if the president listened to it. He’s actually got good taste in music. He listens to a lot of indie and is quite up-to-date, which is rare, at least in Spanish politics.
Cool track. The guitars remind me of early Bloc Party and that era of indie. Really nice production too.
Good stuff!. I really like what I’m hearing, I’ll surely give it a proper listen!. I should do more songs without guitar myself. Getting out of the comfort zone is always good. That’s why I switched to CGB guitar in the first place.
I was using Amp Designer at first. Sounds really good and you get a lot of tweaking on a single screen. But then I tried Tonex and I liked it better. Something about the attack on the strings sounded more vibrant and defined. Also for the bass, which I made the mistake of recording with a way-too-hot distorsion pedal and was lacking low end, Tonex got me a very nice low end whereas Logic bass amp was a bit lacking. But I’m sure you can the same results with proper tweaking, probably just that Tonex tones are more straightforward.
Bloc Party was a great band that deserved better, imo. They could’ve been absolutely massive after that debut. I wonder what happened? They’re still active it seems.
Yeah most Logic stock plugins are amazing & just do it right. Phat FX is another good one for saturation. They’re easy enough to use but tbh sometimes I wish they looked a bit less clinical. I’d even take the cheesy Y2K skins on Logic desktop just because they have more character
It’s so fun because at a live performance that’s totally the part where everyone goes wild on the dance floor you know? I can imagine being in a goth club and the outro’s playing
I just looked up tempo track line and wow you just changed the game for me!!! I’ve always wished I can change a project’s tempo like how I can draw in automation. This is exactly it. Thank you! 🙏
Yeah the UI is not great. Even worse with the instruments, imo. All those parameters in Sculpture with that UI and endless scrolling is horrible. Really hope all that gets updated eventually.
Oh yeah I remember looking at Sculpture and immediately replaced the instrument lol. Even GarageBand does it better. In fact, the instrument UI is one thing I miss about GB after switching to Logic.
Definitely. I feel like they’ll eventually update the UI for those (I hope) but I also feel like an update of that magnitude won’t happen any time super soon. I still think it’s a great DAW and has some great features though. Cubasis 3 is still my main. I’m waiting to see what they have in the next big update that’s coming soon.
Definitely worth a free bump. Great vocals (and I’m not a vocals sort of guy) and loved the speed change near the end. Just beautifully structured and paced 🙏
Thank you Tony!.
The speed ramp at the end was so easy it definitely feels like cheating!. I don’t know if it’d be noticeable on vocals but on instruments the algorithm is great, can’t notice any artifacts. It’s a good trick to make things more interesting. Sort of related, I do wish Logic could do time signature changes on the time track.
I have a lot of fun making this sort of tracks, Krautrock rhythm kind of thing. I guess it’s my version of “ambient”.
Really appreciate the comment 🤟🙌
great song. I also like the guitar, very good sound. And it is remarkable what can be done with drum software nowadays. Speed changes are important in my opinion, good to hear that it still gets used in modern DAW times.
Thank you for creating all this. A good inspiration.
