That’s the I’m gonna be upgrading to! What size screen did you go with?
The 12.9” because I want as much screen as possible haha @HotStrange
If you want a Apple pencil but don’t need the pressure sensitivity. Penoval are a great deal over the Apple Pencil.

My thoughts exactly. Sounds like a blast for use with AUM and apps like MiRack and Drambo.
Zugu iPad case, best I have ever had, build like a tank https://www.zugucase.com/collections/ipad-pro-11
how's the battery on everyone's Pro?
I just bought a m2 Pro (11") and if i'm making music, i get roughly 3 hours out of it. seems better with other tasks such as browsing, reading.
not sure if this is par for the course or not. my old iPad (Air 3) lasts more like 4 or 5 hours on a full charge, even when making music
That seems bad compared to my M1 12.9”. It depends on the apps though, some music apps are very power hungry, and not always the ones you’d expect. The battery section of the settings app might offer some insight.
Sometimes with Battery tab in Settings, I find that certain music apps have been running in the background after I stopped using them. They can eat battery life without you realizing what is happening.
Have you checked?
That spec is the sweet spot, at least for me. More than 1 TB storage would be wasted on me, but I appreciate all the memory headroom.
Here’s what works for me: I have a Thunderbolt dock (a powered USB C hub could do the same job) and I have controllers, audio interface, external storage etc plugged in to that. I also have some USB C headphone adapters which I leave hanging on the end of headphone cables. When I want to sit on the couch and tinker with beats I plug a pair of headphones in. If inspiration strikes and I want to develop a track I can plug into my desk setup and have all the keys and knobs and so forth.
I use Logic Pro, and I find an Apple Pencil useful, but not essential, for that environment. So, I keep my iPad in a case that has a little pocket for the pencil (and that has a magnetic closing lid). I’ve 3rd party case. The Apple cases are too expensive IMO and not that great at protecting the iPad.
My main MIDI controller is an Arturia Minilab 3, which really shines with Arturia’s desktop apps but works great with mobile as well. I also have a Korg NanoKontrol Studio but it’s not currently useful with Logic 🙁
I might use Bluetooth headphones when programming sequencers etc, but never for live note input.
@mjm1138 I agree that it’s the ideal level for me as well. Thanks for sharing how you set everything up. I appreciate the details.
Same, I tend to use Bluetooth headphones when rough mixing, sound designing, or anything but playing live notes.
Me too, you won’t know how great it is until you try it
I am not impressed by the battery in my m2 Pro (11"). I gave my 2017 Pro because the battery was not what it used to be and it was as good as a new m2 Pro (11").
yeah from asking around, it seems that this is a common issue. I don't think it's worth me complaining to Apple, as if I got a replacement it'd likely have the same issues. Based on this, I'm less likely to buy a Pro in the future...
thanks, seems Drambo uses the most battery but it's kinda unavoidable as that's my main music tool.
thanks for the tip (and sorry to derail your thread!). Seems Replicant 2 is using a disproportionate amount of background activity. i love v.2 but might have to bite the bullet and remove it in favour or v.3
To answer the main thread's points:
Based on @dendy 's recommendation in another thread I am using the Hyperdrive 6-in-1 USB-C hub with my iPad Pro, very happy with it so far. I use it with the extension cable, sound is crystal clear. I then use a Anker USB hub to plug in various peripherals (MIDI controllers, sound interfaces).

I also write a lot and use a cheap bluetooth keyboard with my iPad, it isn't ideal but I can't justify the expense of the Apple keyboard (though the extra USB-C input for powering it does seem useful).
I use the Apple Pencil for basically everything. I have arthritic fingers that don't gel so well with the fiddly bits of iOS music production. Surprised to see in this thread that many people don't use a Pencil
It that M2 processor, it is hungry for power.
I use a Pencil. Some button in Zenbeats are too small for my fat fingers. I did not get a Apple pencil since I don't draw. way cheaper. As somebody else said its a must try for DAW usage.
I’ve recently bought an M2 11” and the battery life seems reasonable to me, but then my old iPad had got to the stage where I needed to recharge it during the day.
If I’m doing browsing/YT/socials/light gaming it lasts really well, music apps do start to drain battery much more quickly - MiRack in particular, but using AUM with lots of plugins eats it up. That said, it’s not dropped below 30% by the end of the day yet - and I use it a lot during the day.
If I’m in my “studio” I power it while in use, though this week so far I’ve just been using it unpowered elsewhere in the house.
So, while battery life may not be stellar, I’m finding it OK, especially compared to what I had previously.
