I’m a big fan of punk too! Who are some of your favorites? Dead Kennedys and Black Flag are 2 of my favorite bands ever. I guess I like hardcore punk a little more than the classics.

Mainly late 70s UK Punk, so Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Undertones, The Only Ones, that kind of stuff. Plus "Post punk" stuff like PiL, Killing Joke, Wire...

I also liked the bands that kind of went Goth, led by Siouxie.

I do like the Dead Kennedys. Following that thread, I liked the bands that kind of got interwoven during that period including a lot of the early US Industrial stuff (Ministry, etc.) into stuff like 'we care a lot' era Faith no More (I also like the Mike Patten era FNM too)...

The more I list the more I remember and think I need to go and make some playlists (or find my old mixtapes and burned CDs!)

The guitarist in my old band (unsigned!) is heavily into hardcore like Crass and Conflict and Discharge. We have recently mainly been making orchestral-ey dark/noire soundtrack like music which is completely devoid of punk guitars!

That’s awesome! I love a lot of those proto industrial band like Coil, Throbbing Gristle, Suicide, Swans, Red. Good stuff.

Goth, Post Punk, ao many amazing bands within those genres. I’m a big fan of Mike Patton so FNM and Mr. Bungle rank pretty high up for me.

Making playlists is fun! I used to have an entire separate cd binder with just my burned CDs with tons of mixtapes, b-sides from my favorite bands, etc.

I’m moving back to the country from a city apartment in a few weeks.

The whole time I have been in this apartment (2.5 years) I have felt uncomfortable creating due to noise restrictions so I am really looking forward to playing drums and making pop music with instruments again.

My goal is to cover a song a day and get back some playing skill.

Good list of punk and post/punk bands, but you missed out, in my opinion, the best of the lot, the Jam 😃

As for Siouxie Sioux, I’ve been in love with her for over 40 years. I’d have made her happy in my house 😂

  • I’m not usually a goals kind of person, I tend to go with the flow most of the time.

That said, I’m hoping to finish working through Sarah Belle Reid’s LSS course, which I started last spring, but am only about a quarter to a third of the way through. I’m easily sidetracked, and inspired, though, so I can spend ages exploring one particular technique or idea rather than driving myself forward. Which is fine, actually - I got into this as a long term “project”, so there’s no huge rush.

I would also really like to finish off putting together a few albums’ worth of stuff that’s been created in the last three or four years and actually get the stuff out for people to not listen to 🤣

    1. Have fun.
    2. Get better.

That's all I have so far.

I saw them live on their final tour. They were amazing. Not to mention how well they managed to record in the studio and put so much energy into the performances.

I was at the 2nd and 5th nights at Wembley Arena on that tour. Incredible band. Should have stayed together for a few years more at least.

Have to admit I was never a fan. The Clash passed me by too. I think my fondness for the Jam is tainted by the Style Council. Something about the style council just got under my skin. Shudders.

There are a handful of artists here who consistently put music out there, on a very regular basis. @Svetlovska @GeoTony @Paulieworld @LinearLineman @jwmmakerofmusic @jo92346 and @echoopera are probably the most prolific creators here. Let's raise our glass to them and emulate their work ethic 🥂

    Thank you.

  • Thx @richardyot Happy Holidays, my musical friend.

    • Finish a track (but first: work out what I mean by "finished")
    • Summon the courage to collaborate with one of my talented muso friends
    • Get back to working through Leavitt's Modern Method for Guitar
    • Join my local synth library to help alleviate hardware GAS
  • I really should post more music here. AI is going to roll in like a streamroller soon... and... yah, I really should post more here.
