Cantoria by GSi (Released)
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cantoria/id6468679668
GSi Cantoria is a physical modeling emulation of a Baroque-style Pipe Organ.
INSTRUMENT BACKGROUND
A pipe organ is not something you see every day, there are thousands of different pipe organs that differ by the number of stops, the number of manuals, the number and the type of pipes, their size, their position, etc. Cantoria is a Baroque-style organ based on a single manual and 9 stops plus 3 couplers and the classic "tremulant" effect. This tupe of organ has "only" 776 pipes, which Cantoria simulates one by one. It doesn't sound "massive" like bigger organs, but is very dynamic and can vary from a soft delicate flute sound to a loud and majestic. vibrant full organ.
This synth engine works as an hybrid synthesizer, uses additive synthesis and physical modeling together, there are no samples involved. The expression pedal responds naturally and varies the amount of air that passes through the pipes.
About the name: the name we chose for this plugin "CANTORIA" is the italian name of the place, inside a Church, where the organ and the choir are located.
Main features:
- Physical Modeling engine (no samples)
- Full Polyphony (61 notes, 776 pipes)
- 9 Organ Stops
- 3 Couplers
- Tremulant Motor
- Swell Pedal
- Built-in Stereo Reverb effect
- Built-in programmer with unlimited Programs
- Embedded user's manual
- Available as Stand-alone application and audio plugin
- Very low CPU and RAM usage
Works as AUv3 plugin.

It’s free AND an AU?! Grabbing it now 😎
This sounds fantastic. It’s free too! - many thanks
Thank you @ninobeatz, really nice freebie from GSi
The stand-alone sounds fantastic but the auv3 in aum sound very distorted and just different.
Is this just me or does anybody else find that?
Not knocking it though as it’s free 😊
The standalone for me sounds distorted. This is the init patch, unlisted vid, surely not supposed to sound like this?
Strange @Gavinski , that’s similar to how the auv3 sounds for me. The stand-alone sounds good for me. Very strange…
Sounds clean to me on standalone too, and distorted inside Aum.
- it's unlisted, not gonna post this.
Just downloaded to try it out, and I have the same problem. Sounds OK standalone, horrible as AUv3. It seems to be the reverb that’s dodgy - turn it down to dry and the distortion goes. Also, the first time I tried to change the reverb type it crashed AUM completely.
Even stranger … it sounds crystal clear for me as both a standalone AND an AU in GarageBand!
@Gavinski i DEFINITELY hear distortion on your clip, like real bad
Here it is with no adjustments made to reverb as an init , both standalone and AU
(Unlisted)
I’ve just logged the sound quality and crash problems via the developers help desk system.
Thnx Tony!
The plot thickens…I go to open the AUv3 in AUM, and instead, Drum80 opens! Note that it says Cantoria at the top of the AUv3 window in AUM.
2 reinstalls later, it is working normally standalone, but still loads drum80 instead when I try to load the AUv3 in AUM. Before, the AUv3 for drum80 and Cantoria both had the Cantoria icon. Now they both have the Drum80 icon.
Perhaps it’s the long requested random app loader facility @Gavinski 😊
Same here. The reverb in the AUv3 causes the distortion. The standalone sounds great.
Hahaha... Now that would be some Xmas present, Tony 😂
Can anyone else with drum80 see if they run into similar issues to what I experienced? Would be useful to tell gsi whether that is replicable or not
In apeMatrix for me now, Cantoria AUv3 has its own icon as it should, but the AUv3 that’s opening is actually Drum80. Strange that different icons are showing in different hosts, weird glitch
In standalone I also get crackling when I toggle Tremulant while a note is held down, anyone else?
This may be the first time in recorded history that everything is fine on my end including in GarageBand 😂
23 mb download too..
Thanks..
For me, it's broken in AUM, on dry signal, it's OK, but with internal reverb, I’m getting a distorted signal. 😳
Standalone is fine.
I do get the same as you and I have not been able to open Cantoria at all as an AUV3 (AUM). Stand alone sounds good, the little I tried.
Same
Really sounds fantastic in stand alone though!
This will be wonderful when the initial bugs are fixed, what a lovely Christmas gift, thanks GSI
Really glad to get this great sounding organ for free. Thanks GSi. I get the distortion too in AUM when using as an AU, but no distortion when loaded as IAA.
Yep, same issues.
It is exciting to see GSi continue in the modeled instrument area and especially with “no cost” offerings along the journey.
Like the “Free Vibes” there’s feedback on issues.
I downloaded first to an iPhone and the sound was just aweful… when I got home I tried my iPad and the sound is glorious.
Crashes for multiple AUv3 instance in AUM but one instance seems useful. AUM can’t load it occassionally.
Still… it’s great to see new modeled apps. I suspect this will be useful for many and it will get a few updates. Then a real commercial pipe organ will emerge overtime as the bugs get worked out.
Thank you GSi.
