So weird how some people seem to get so hostile and annoyed/angry about a (really great) app. And on Christmas Day too. It’s not that serious…

Exactly 👍 People need to chill B)

I definitely agree with you both. The dev is a very nice person and is pretty chill themselves. :) They got some rather brilliant ideas for the future of Music Putty. Even though I don't use Music Putty, I may resub to lend them just a bit more support.

Exactly. And what they’re offering (Melodyne on iOS essentially) is something we don’t really have right now to this extent so imo it’s a pretty big deal even if it’s not useful for everyone.

  • I currently own VTS. I saw user jwmmakerofmusic has found MusicPutty better than VTS.
I would be interested to know more about pros and cons based on his practical experience.
VTS is rather good but not perfect so there may be a valid reason to crossgrade
    Thanks

  • Hi @Spinoza, MusicPutty has a more flexible editor, it give you the ability to adjust both the pitch and timing of each note. You can also perform actions like copy, paste, and delete, just like how you would do them with MIDI notes on a piano roll.

With this flexibility, you can do some very creative editing to come up with new materials just from the original vocal. Here is a short demo you can checkout:

    Hope this helps!

The real problem for me is really subscription: 6 € for Logic , 6 € for Adults, 6 for MusicPutty, 20 Netflix (here this is justify as there's new content every month). But at this rate it soon become impossible for most people to use all those tools.
Why the hell don't they use in-app purchase for all new feature in their app instead of subscription ?

If MusicPutty isn’t something you would be using all the time, you could just subscribe in those months where you would use it.

The answer to “ Why the hell don't they use in-app purchase for all new feature in their app instead of subscription ?” is that quite a few developers have tried and found that the IAP route doesn’t provide income to justify the time and effort. And the Loopy Pro/Working Copy model requires developers to develop mechanisms for doing that …which is a non-trivial project on its own …and for a niche app might not justify the expense.

EDIT: A number of great iOS music app developers have quietly stopped developing for the platform because they have found it increasingly difficult to earn what they consider reasonable income for the time they put it. Maybe subscriptions won't pan out for these devs that are trying them -- but they certainly wouldn't be trying this route if the standard model had proven successful for them.

Hey @Jeezs, thanks for reaching out. We saw your comment on the App Store, apology that we couldn't respond sooner, it usually takes 24 hours for a developer's response to appear on the App Store.

Hey @Telstar5, good to see you! Do you mean a tool that can automatically generate harmony?

Not necessarily automatically but through midi oossibly ? I was specifically thinking of some of Melodyne’s polyphonic capabilities.

Polyphonic note separation is still an ongoing research problem. Hopefully, we can add something like it to MusicPutty in the future, but that will take time.

    Hello AutumnRock,

Sorry being so negative on my comment.
I also have a small company producing apps.
But we decide to avoid subscription unless for some service online when we host user data.
In all other case we have other solution in app purchase when add new asset or tools, or regular update thru bundle is possible.
We will also have subscription but only for people who and most important if they stop subscription they still keep what they get but miss new tools.
The biggest problem is if every plug-in and app creator use subscription as payment, plug-in usage will soon be accessible only by a few.
    This is so sad.
I would easily pay 100 for a great plug-in and 30 or 40 each years for the update, but if some reason I don’t have the money I keep the software and can still edit my songs.

Hey @Jeezs, thanks for the comment. We don't think subscription is the right model for every app, and we understand that it would be ridiculous if every plugin were to go subscription-based. That said, there are situations where the subscription model would allow developers to build apps that were previously impossible due to poor economics, and MusicPutty is one of those apps. Here is a prior comment that explores this a bit further. Hope this sheds some light!

...The iOS music app market is smaller than many people realize, especially for niche apps like MusicPutty. Previously, a lot of complex niche apps couldn't survive because the market was just not big enough. For a paid app priced around $10 to be continuously worked on, it would require around at least 10k+ new paid users per year. In reality, most niche apps can only hit a small fraction of that number. With subscriptions, the rules have changed. Now, an app can be financially viable as long as there's a small group of people who really want it. With a few thousand supporters, an app like MusicPutty can be maintained and updated indefinitely...

  • MusicPutty 2.1 Update - MusicPutty just got a whole lot stretchier!

    [Time Stretch]
    - You can now change the length of your notes by dragging their tail ends.
    [Enhanced Piano Roll]
    - Additional grid lines appear as you zoom in on the piano roll to help you better navigate the timeline.
    - New position indicators in front of the note you are dragging help you place it more precisely.
    [Enhanced Note Separation Tool]
    - The handle of the note separation tool now responds to the "snap on/off" toggle, allowing you to slice perfectly sized notes.
    [Others]
    - Improved processing speed of the audio engine.
    - Various minor bug fixes.
