👍🏻👍🏻 that kid is you, right? 🤓

When I started looking for a graphic for this I think I googled “smelly” or something like that. This kid’s face popped up and I thought… Perfect! I can just hear him now… Ewwwww… smells like jazz. Yuck!

    Happy New Year!

    Smells great @Paulieworld!

I’ve never used any of those “session” apps. There’s so many of them! Any ones in particular that you’d recommend over others?

I think it’d be nice if they rolled it all into one app. I’d buy it.

There certainly are a lot of them, but they are less than lunch money. That’s how I justify the expense. I think there are around four of them that focus on jazz. They are easy to use. Just select from a palette of chords that closely match whatever you’re working on, then I just route the horn parts into Cubasis with AUM or Audiobus. From there you can slice and dice to your heart’s content.

I have tried using apps like Sensual Sax and others, but the reality is that I just don’t think like a horn player. I figured, why not just get the real thing? Now that I own them, it’s like having some great session horn players on call, 24-7.

Thanks for listening. Happy New Year!

  • This is so cool. Only disappointment is that it ended, could have listened to this jazz jam for 15 mins easily.

Thank you so much! Comments like this really make my day. Happy New Year!

  • @Paulieworld yeah, Sensual Sax! Dial up the sex! Thank goodness we’ve progressed quite a bit. Still, when I first heard it five years ago I thought Wow, I can play and record a saxophone (sort of). The hardest thing to learn was to stop for the breath. Piano lines can be infinitely unbroken.

  • Circular breathing baby :-)

  • lol @jo92346 i’ll be posting a track sometime soon where it seems I just did that…. On a keyboard playing a trumpet, anyway.

But can’t wind or brass lines also be unbroken by simply adding more players?

I was always curious about that! I did a little research and found that the technique originated in the 13th century by Mongolian metalsmiths. Apparently they required a steady stream of air to properly work the molten metal. Who knew!

Another interesting tidbit - Kenny G set the world record in 1997. 45 minutes and 47 seconds. In my opinion, that about 45 minutes and 46 seconds too long. No offense to Kenny G fans. Just sayin'

Here’s the circular breathing recording I heard in high school that inspired me to learn how. It’s something I’ve used in gigs holding long notes, but I don’t really care about blowing my face off for 5 minutes straight like that!

    Damn… that obnoxious!
