    Dear friends & forum members,

It’s already the end of the 1st quarter of 2024, so I wanted to share this quick message. As many of you know, I dedicate a decent amount of time and effort to curate and maintain the yearly “iOS app sales and discussion thread.” It’s been a labor of love, so it’s good to know this thread has been beneficial to so many forum members. In order to continue this work, I would like to humbly beseech your support. (I’ve always wanted to use that phrase, lol.)

If you are able to provide a donation, it will go a long way to ensure the thread keeps going strong. Any contribution, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated. Paypal is the preferred option but either method will work. Special thanks to those who help, and provide information to the thread. Thanks for your time, I am deeply grateful for the support.

PS. Don’t miss all the great sales currently going on.

    Sincerely,

    Chris aka PoppaDocRock

Indeed! I’ve already splunged on Bandit, Alteza, Chorus and Phazer. All amazing apps! (Especially love Bandit!)

Does anyone have experience with Drumkit? I’m severly tempted by that one too…

  • Drumkit is by far my favorite drum synth. FAC is top tier.

Oh, damn! ;-) This might be an expensive month! (Also looking at Punchlab, as I am very happy with the other FAC apps I have bought. Amazing sound and perfectly designed user interfaces.)

I'm very happy with my new purchase on Punchlab. It really makes Playbeat pop and sound more dynamic. My drums can cut through a mix in a much more calculated way. I also liked throwing this on a melodic sequence to sound design. Could get some very gnarly sounds altering a simple FM piano sound in OPL. Overall, while not cheap, I think the combination of multiple high quality fx with an efficient UI make this worth it. I could see myself using it every AUM instance... But I do think that you can basically do the same thing if you have multiple fx that replicate functionality of Punchlab.

My only critique is that there's no internal modulation... This thing is crying out for multiple LFOs so that you don't need to go through the process of routing external LFOs.

Punchlab must have become my most used plugin already. That thing is brilliant.

I'd say that it's immediately made more of my drums "usable" in that they can easily cut through and energize a mix. For instance, a lot of Playbeat presets are interesting but don't have the sonic juice to hang in a mix with lots of instruments unless you use multiple fx to massage them. Punchlab makes the process far quicker, more enjoyable, and since all the fx are not just high quality but right there in one clean UI, experimentation is easier and more fun. I've been using it to mangle simple saw and sine waves and I'm loving it. Now I just need to start modulating this beast. Again, lack of modulation really feels like a huge missed opportunity, but it's fantastic nonetheless.

CPU usage has been relatively light based on a couple hours testing. Almost as light as KoalaFX (if its reverb is on) with multiple fx loaded. About 5% on what I think is minimal core usage on a 2020.

  • Utility

PDF2JPG - Convert PDF to JPG is free usually $4.99

This developer has several free utility apps that could be useful, take a look.

  • I was gonna ask about CPU @NoncompliantBryant since it is multiple fx, but all FAC apps are on the very light side so I had a feeling this was too. It’s also hard to measure cpu from one person to another, since it can depend on various situational factors, (ie. Device, host, how many apps in session, how many things going on in session, connections, etc…) thanks.

Thanks for the recommendation! I got it now, and it’s really great. Fun and easy to use, and can make some really interesting sounds.

Totally. For context, this was on a 2019 ipad running just OPL, Grand Piano, Module, and Playbeat...all very light apps so I'm guessing the iPad was only using a single core or barely more. Usually when it's a heavier session, I can tell that another core has kicked in because an app that uses 16% will all of a sudden drop to 8 after I've added a monster like Tera Pro to AUM.

Honestly, it does not compare well to the finger drum options available in GarageBand. Installed it, tested it, deleted it.
