I think it's easy to overlook them, even though they are among the very best available due to their integration in their respective DAWs.
Mododrum is awesome, it’s one of the IK apps I still use often. I mainly am working in logic on MacBook Pro, and on ipad it’s mostly when just wanting to create something for fun on the go. In the new version of logic you can now put any drum app on the drummer track, so no more exporting the drummer track as midi to a new track with a different drum app.
Having mood on iPad would be cool though. I am guessing with pianoteq running on iPad now that the processors are up to the task of modeling, or I should say the processors in the “regular iPads” such as the 9th gen iPad I have. Modo gives great options for changing the sounds at the source, and I use it sometimes just to do some learning on how all of the options affect the drum sound for when I’m working with a drummer and want to get the sounds I’m hearing in a quicker way. I also sometimes trigger modo with the logic “replace drum track” feature if I need to either replace or support existing acoustic drum tracks when I’m mixing a project I didn’t track. It would be fun to have modo on an iPad though so I could play around with it easily on the subway, things like that.
Not trying to be nerdy here, but I feel that GarageBand is often shortchanged. To my ears, the snare sound does change a bit between lower and higher velocities and I think I can hear more or less rim sound. The snare has three regions to play on screen, and three different MIDI notes in the piano roll - Snare Drum, Rim Shot, and Side Stick. I'm sure you can get more variation in sound from other apps and DAW's like Logic Pro, but GB does a pretty nice job.
Attached a very ad-hoc example from the Sunset acoustic kit. First the snare, then the rim shot, side stick and then snare/rim combined.
Ha ha! I don't short change it. I always remember it's a great option ... and then decide not to use it. So weird that I just can't get myself to use GarageBand. It wins the "best app I never use" poll every year.
Logic Pro is a different story. Never gonna use that one. I'm just not interested.
If you ever do 'accidentally' use Logic Pro, you'll find a whole lot more options for drums.
@FlowingRobes Hi, the Complete button has 2 features.
A quick tap will complete the instrument in the case you have only 1 or a few samples ( not enough to complete the 16 slots ). In that case it will create the remaining samples derived from the original one, with minimal variations of pitch, EQ, etc... to simulate natural variations. You get then Left hand high and low velocities, as well for the right hand. ( It's an experimental feature )
If you long press on the same button, it will open a page where you can enter the name of your articulation per sample groups ( 2 to 10 ), ( it will also add the name of your kit ), and will automatically rename the samples after you close. That way you save a lot of time and everything look clean and neat.
Thanks for reporting the bug.
@Gilbert
Is there any chance the AU will turn into a simple but more editable version?
Many exciting changes in the auv3. Soon to be released.
Guys, check out this awesome piece of software from Modalics (devs of Beat Scholar). The sound and video demos are absolutely convincing:

Nice video with an assessment by Jordan Rudess shows how well it can be played on a multipad, provided you have the right skills:

Unfortunately only for MacOS and Windows so far. When I asked if they were planning to release MINDst Drums as an app for iOS/iPadOs, I got the following answer: "Re. iOS we're defintely thinking about it but we're currently focusing on new releases and expansions for MINDst. Maybe it's something we'll revisit later."
But if this actually becomes a reality, it will brilliantly close the gap for the best natural drums for the iOS platform.
Doesn't DrumJam do this (the pads; not the loops)? Maybe not the GM mapping; don't really know. But I don't think it can be beat (on ios) for depth of sampling.
From what was posted in the current DPP thread, the upcoming version’s AUv3 will do what @richardyot is looking for.
Yes t does. I suggested to @sonosaurus that a Drumjam AUv3 player would be a great app back in 2021 and he seemed really up for the idea, so much so that he created a thread to announce the upcoming app, but it's been more than two years since then.
