*** VAPolyMkll Introduction Sale until Feb 29.
(Regular Price $14.99) ***

VAPolyMkll is a virtual analog bitimbral polyphonic synthesizer for iPhone, iPad and Mac. It features 16 voice synthesizer, effects, sequencer and audio visualization tools. It operates as a stand alone or as an AudioUnit Extension (AUv3). Stand Alone supports Ableton Link, MIDI and audio file export.

The synthesizer consists of two 8 voice synthesizer, which features two oscillators, two ADS envelopes, resonant high pass and low pass filter and an amplifier per voice. The oscillators features continuously variable wave shape and wide variety of modulation. The filters are modeled on the Sallen-Key filter circuit and cascaded OTA filter circuit for classic analog sound. The Effects include delay, chorus, flanger, reverb, ed and compressor. The sequencer features piano roll and parameter automation editor to program 16 bar pattern per clip. Project files can be saved in iCloud Drive, so that the project can be accessed from iPhone, iPad or Mac.

  • Main Features -
Virtual analog 16 voice bitimbral polyphonic synthesizer
Two type of Lowpass filter, cascaded OTA model and Sallen-key model.
    Patch points for modulation.
    Support MIDI 2.0
New User Interface built by SwiftUI for improved performance and to ensure compatibility of future
    OS.
Built-in Sequencer. 16 bar patterns per clip. Total 8 clips. Piano Roll and Parameter automation.
    Support Audio Unit Extension (AUv3)
Works on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Support iCloud Drive to share project files between the platforms.
Audio Export. Linear PCM format (AIFF, WAV and CAF) and compressed format (AAC)
Support Ableton Link, Bluetooth MIDI, MIDI In / Out.

  • System Requirements -
A13 Fusion or above is recommended.
AudioUnit Extension (AUv3) requires host application which support AudioUnit Extension.
AudioUnit Extension is supported by Apple Logic and Apple Garage Band on iOS and macOS. For any other DAW, it depends on the application and some of them don't support AudioUnit Extension.

What’s the difference between V1? Anyone know?

Version 1 is great and came out like 6 months ago so I’m confused as to why there’s an MK2 already. Seems like it comes with the same effects and filters and modulations options. No real distinguishing remarks in the description.

Edit: I see V2 has patch points so I guess that’s one thing

  • Here’s the introduction

  • edited January 31

I of course have no interest or need in buying this, I only realized with its release that I bought the first one a few months back, and so did open that, which I hadn't done previously, and began fidlding about and it's lovely enough and clever and different and thus I now have had to buy this new version just because and after all it's a bargain and at 5.99 is priced exactly the same as the Peacock sub I also signed up for today (because of the upcoming Rugby Six Nations etc) and thus does this dev's work surely deseve what is but a one off payment for a perpetuity (perhaps) of pleasure etc.

  • Looks like this one includes the OTA filter and the other one just has the Sallen-key. With how well the dev does with filters, that alone will probably get me to buy this. The patch points look fun too

  • Significant improvements here. Improved preset selector too.
The sequencer is excellent and intuitive.
For midi notes and automation curves, It requires a double tap to create, and a drag select to edit.
You will need to select the note length from context menu. So you cant just tap and drag to make longer notes it seems.

Required an ipad restart to install correctly for me.

  • Seems like my iPad Air 3 won't be able to run it :/

Oh, very interesting. OTA-based filters are awesome. That's the second OTA modeling plugin in two months.

  • Maybe there’s a bundle incoming?

  • “A13 Fusion or above is recommended”

How can I tell if that is what I have? I don’t really understand what that means

You can look up the processor that is in your device by doing a web search

A15 Bionic processor - but is that above an A13 Fusion whatever ?

Yes they generally go up in number as the ones come out. Higher generally equals better with the apple chips.

    Ah nice I missed that.

Might be helpful for the dev to add a section on the App Store page detailing the precise differences between this and V1.

  • Just |Great ! Awesome quality to all his releases!

  • Can anyone tell me how you delete patches made in the patch bay? Long press brings up delete, but pressing that lights it up but does nothing else. Is there something I’m missing?

  • Oh, a new shiny tool from the master craftsman! 🤩 One of the most flexible UIs on the platform got optimized more, even coded from the ground up to support SwiftUI. I must admit, I'm a little skeptical about SwiftUI. I can’t wait to test this new monster.

If I will buy this one, may I forget about two previous versions?

I googled Apple chips and see
    A10 Fusion
    A13 Bionic

But no A13 Fusion chips. So, the tech spec for A13 Fusion probably means A13 as a minimum… my iPhone has the A13 Bionic so I’m running with this clarification.

Now I need to Google OTA Filters…

A voltage controlled filter circuit that uses operational transconductance amplifiers, or OTAs, as processing and control elements. The circuit relies on a property of the OTA, which is that as its bias current changes, its transconductance also changes, which (somewhat of an over-simplification) allows the OTA to be used as, in effect, a voltage controlled resistor. This is used as the resistance in a basic RC filter circuit (in this case properly called a gm/C filter), and so by using a control voltage to vary the transconductance of the OTA, the R-C time constant and hence the cutoff frequency can be varied.

I wish adding notes would be one tap, like the previous version.

The note length from the context menu is so odd to use and it doesn't even work for me

This does not feel comfortable to use at all...

In my humble opinion the old piano roll felt easier and more intuitive

OTA Filters are what Roland used in the Jupiter and some (all?) Junos.

When using the patch bay, you need to tap until the cable turns yellow, then long press for context menu, then press delete. Its a lot harder than other implementations ive seen

  • Can anyone confirm that VAPolyMk2 is unable to save selected patches in the host project? I tested it in AUM, LP, Drambo, and LogicPro4iOS.

    (iPad Pro M2, iOS 17.2)

  • So far I’m enjoying this one but I really dislike that you have to go into the patch bay just to change filter type.

Also when saving user presets in standalone mode, opening the keyboard pushes the name window off the screen making it near impossible to rename user patches. Anyone else having that issue?

Are you renaming them? I had this issue as well but you have to keep the category name. So for example Keys.insert name here

I was not clear enough. Sorry! When you load a project, the VAPolyMk2 AU instance forgets the selected preset. In a way, you are unable to save selected presets in the host.

The sound is amazing, it's everything I expected and even more.

Also, I have lots of problems, especially with this keyboard in the AU instance. But at the moment, I don’t have enough time to beta-test the product.

Does it actually forget the preset, or just its name? Many apps fail to save the preset name in their state data. So, when the host restores the saved state, all the parameters are restored, but the patch name appears to default.

Saved patches of the VAPolyMk2 are there, it just forgot the saved state in the project. Including the position of every control function. Also, standalone acts in the same way.

    Reinstalling the app, didn’t help.

You should report this to the developer if you haven’t already.
