PSA: Midi Designer Pro 2 forced subscription to be rolled back

  • As a long term user I’m very happy with this turn of events and fair play to the developer for listening to well reasoned user feedback.

Really depressing though to read the comments in this thread from people with no apparent interest in the app who piled in just to have a go. There are real people on the receiving end of your toxic words.

Thank you for @MIDIDesigner for listening and for the great news!

  • Thanks very much

  • The developer has posted a clear and complete statement of the rollback of the policy on their website. 👍🏼

    February 20, 2024 - Course Correction

On January 25, 2024, we transitioned to a free app -- MIDI Designer Pro X -- with an optional subscription. We heard the disappointment from our existing customers, and we want to correct course.

Today, we are making some changes (coming soon in our next version of MIDI Designer Pro X). Everyone who purchased MIDI Designer Pro 2 prior to our switch to subscription on January 25, 2024 will have lifetime access to all existing features before the 10.0 update.

This includes the core MIDI Designer Pro experience that users know and love and all features that were previously purchased as IAPs (including Stream Byter plugin, Extra Features Pack and Cloud Backups). Future features we develop may also be included, depending on their complexity and cost to maintain.

We are a small company, so we designed the original one-year access plan as a precautionary measure since we were not certain if we could support lifetime access. We sincerely apologize for putting our current users in this position.

Without you, we would not be here today. We deeply value each and every one of you. Your feedback and layouts power MIDI Designer Pro and have helped shape the app into what it is today. Thank you.

    Sincerely,
Dan, JK and the MIDI Designer Team

I also received a response to my App Store review expressing disappointment about the change. I've since updated the review to reflect the policy change.

(Just putting it out there as a reminder if anyone else had complained in an App Store review.)

  • I've also amended my review and changed to a positive one.

I've made some templates for my Walrus guitar pedals, I'll look into sharing them on the MIDI Designer forum.

Wanted to say only Midi designer is great app, works without any problem here, I can recommend it to anyone, and I use also Surface Builder (also great) and LoopyPro / TouchOsc etc. MIDI DESIGNER is very nice.

Ok I have Lemur too, but didn’t learnt it and now probably I will skip (app is no longer updated).
