It’s expensive, but cheaper than a Music Easel, for example. Bo Beats has a full walkthrough on it, but I’ve shared this video by Benn Jordan as he goes into the back story:
And Bo is right: it’s lovely, but I’m not going to buy one!
The current state of the theremin art.
Let me try the „cheaper than a Music Easel“ line on my wife ☠️
Music Easel sounds way better to my ears.
I quite like the Solar, but given a straight choice I’d have the Easel, too. Much more my kind of thing.
She’s amazing.
I mean, it’s got a zillion oscillators etc etc, positive bargain… 🤣🤣🤣
What a fantastic performance! 🤩 I enjoyed every second of it.
So the current state of the theremin art is that it has become just a modulation device?!![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
BTW, Carolina is a perfect, breathtaking performer!
After my band’s theremin died I bought one online that was surprisingly cheap.
Not so surprising as when I received it it was disassembled in a box. Hundreds of transistors and capacitors, everything really small, with tiny letters and a schematic whatever manual… Borrowed a soldering thingy and spent about a week putting the thing together. Obviously didn’t have any testing equipment so after a zillion hours I finished plugged it in and no sound… not a sad blip.
Gave it to someone to check it and never got it back. This Stylophon theremin thing might be my revenge.
+3 but then again you can’t mention experimental music here without the obligatory “it’s not real music” comment(s). I think it’s in the contract.
That aside, I’m definitely looking hard at this and the drone synth.
If memory serves, there is mention here of the DS-2 being the first of a new "CPM" line of Stylophone modules.
Leon was a true genius but more so for his electronic spying device.
I really enjoyed this video.
And sure, the Stylophon Theramin can be used for experimental music, but it can also be used for tonal music as well. It'd be fun to play around with an app like that. I wonder if @brambos and @Hainbach can cook up something like that. 🤔
To get an authentic (original) theremin sound might be difficult, as I think it uses heterodyning (beat frequencies). I say that as if I know what I’m talking about, but my understanding of this is seriously hazy at best! But some modern instruments use standard synthesis I think - the Moog Theremini uses the Animoog engine, for example. I suspect the Stylophone one is using something more “normal” for the sound generation, too.
One app I’ve used that purports to emulate one is an IAA app called Slynthi, which is OK, but I’ve not done any close comparisons.
Thx @bygjohn
His life story would make for a wild movie.
