    Great, thanks @catbox !
Think I’m gonna grab this app - curiosity getting the better of me 😀

One other thing, there’s no connectivity with AudioShare correct? Is it easy to import files using iPad file system ( which I tend to find incredibly unintuitive)?

Nope - no connectivity! That is the name of the game with these apps! ;-) But you do not import files into the app - you just point the app at a folder on your iPad, so it is very easy - just make a folder with eventual subfolders for the sounds you want to use. (It can not be a folder inside AudioShare though.)

And hope you enjoy it. I am a huge fan of the devs apps. They might not be cheap, and you have to accept them on their own terms, but each is very well thought out in workflow, when you first grok the logic, and with very beautiful interfaces too.

Yeah, I wondered about that at first, but it kinda has to be this was because you’re pointing each bank to a folder to play.

Otherwise, the app would have to maintain its own folder/file structure. Redundant since you can already just use the built in files app.

After you get the gist of everything… it’s cool to set the playable structure on the “Jam” page to “hold” on a played sample playhead, then activate a slow rotate/spim and it will play the sample as it passes over. You can set the held action to effect rate and pan as it spins.

Ok, I just bought this app and Astral. Really liking both of them so far.
I started a thread, asking for help and advice when it came to chopping up audio, and using the iOS file system.
A couple of people engaged in a meaningful way, but most didn't, and the thread got completely hijacked.
So, @telecharge - thanks for your input - you're right, I should've included more detail in my original question, but I didn't think the thread would veer off the way it did,....

So I'm asking the same question here, since RSVP doesn't have Audioshare connectivity, and therefore I assume that RSVP users will be able to help me get started.

I've been doing this for decades on my Mac, using Audacity, Logic, Ableton...it's easy peasy; Open some audio, put some markers where you want to crop/cut, export that section, give it a file name.... etc etc
On the ipad, I find this ostensibly simple process much more protracted and much less intuitive.

So, my question is, what apps are folks using to chop a piece of audio into smaller pieces of audio, name the files, and then organise them in a way that makes it easy for RSVP to read those files.? Simple.

For what it's worth, I am not really talking about chopping up a drum break into individual one-shot hits. More like taking sections of audio for experimental collage style stuff. So, some bits of audio might be 12.6 seconds long,....so apps that automatically recognise transients and assume that I want to create a folder of kicks and snares are not necessarily what I am looking for .
    Thanks in advance folks

I should add that I have Twisted Wave and 4 Pockets Neon editor.

@Kashi why don't you use Neon? You can set slice markers, you can export slices, etc. It even has a built-in file system explorer where you can add folders etc. Have a look at the Neon masterclass videos on 4pockets youtube channel.

Hm, this might or might not help, but for RSVP I just record things directly from the app using the record and split buttons. I.e. I go to the record pace, choose a folder for the recordings, and just record away, using the split-button, if I want to cut something up into several pices while recording it. Sort of embraching the app as a shuffling looper kind of thing. (But I know this won’t help with existing recordings you want to chop up.)

Thanks @bleep - will check out that vid. Appreciate the link :)
And yes, I want to try this option too @catbox - cheers for engaging!

Also, fwiw, I've contacted the dev a few times since purchasing RSVP and he's been very responsive, very helpful.
I've also bought Astral, which pairs beautifully with my Digitone, and I reckon I'll be grabbing Latch before too long.
    These are great apps!

  • Having said that (my last comment) I’m hugely disappointed to realise that it’s not possible to save your work. Kinda renders this app useless for live use . My gigs always have an element of improvisation, but having to open this app and then set everything up - assigning folders to each player, fiddling with filter and level settings- just doesn't seem conducive to a live workflow at all.
Is this the case with Latch and Temp?
Was about to buy Latch but if there’s no save option I think I’ll give it a miss…

Temp and Latch both have very basic systems for saving, as I thought all his apps do. You use the Write buttons to save presets to little squares and the Read buttons to load saved presets. Fits the minimalist UIs but still quite annoying as you can't name anything and are expected to remember where on the grid a given preset is saved. Can RSVP really not save your setups? Maybe you should email the dev to check and / or make a feature request. Sounds like a major flaw if it can't save like that.

Not sure how it works in Temp, but in Latch you can save and load presets. (Details here: https://www.seqsual.com/latch)

  • Thanks @Gavinski and @catbox .
Good to know saving is possible in Latch.
As far as I can see, there’s no way to save in rsvp Gav. Major flaw indeed.
    Have emailed the dev….

  • Heard back from him already and he’s confirmed that you can’t save in RSVP 😣
He said that he will look into whether it’s possible to add that in a future update but said he couldn’t promise anything…

I thought I’d found my dream sample player…but alas the search continues…

Hey @catbox , do you mean you just use the iPad’s built in mic?

Yes! Just making a folder and recording directly inside RSVP with the iPad mic.

I know it is somewhat primitive, but works for me as a something that fits the - for me - loose and happy accident-seeking workflow of the app.

Primitive is good 😊 Gonna try this approach tomorrow
