• Transform your iPhone and iPad into a portable

DJ set designed for the art of scratching
We're excited to bring you an app that redefines the possibilities of dj scratching with a single hand-held device, ready to be used on the go, anvwhere you want.

Skratch it! transforms your iOS device into mobile turntable / mixer / loop player combo, allowing you to instantly experience limitless possibilities right at your fingertips.

• Seamless scratch experience •
Thanks to the implementation of a highly responsive virtual deck and a semi-automated mixer's crossfader, it is possible to achieve both precision and finesse of performance even for beginners.

The mixer section offers eight, carefully selected, crossfader movement patterns that are automatically synced with the tempo of background music playback. These can be easily combined together by the swipe gestures, allowing to create endless combinations of the scratching sounds.

The app comes with a selection of six different sound sets, containing most of the all-time classic samples together with some fresh beeps, squelches and rough noises!
Eager to cut and bend your own sounds? Importing custom samples is also possible.

• Packed with useful features

  • Dope selection of background music tracks (80 - 140 bpm)
  • 6 pads for switching between different scratching sounds sets
  • Mixer unit with pattern-driven tempo-synced and manual modes of the crossfader
  • Responsive, large, virtual deck with triggers for performing "stab" and "faderless" tricks
  • Possibility to cue and trigger selected part of the record
  • 4 different DSP effects
  • Live recording to WAV (record your performance with or without the background music)
  • Importing of custom samples (44.1khz, stereo,
    16-bit WAV files)

  • Tap tempo button for fast tweaking of the playback speed

  • Audio routing (audio output from the app can be routed to another app that supports lAA)
  • Built-in tutorial
  • Hours of fun and engaging experience!

  • Has anyone bought this? Looks fun! But it’d be good to see a video. I can’t tell if you can actually use the crossfader for instance.

  • looks like IAA only? not auv3?

  • I just tested it and made a little video.

There's also a Giveaway there, if anyone's interested.

  • Always nice to see more DJ apps. This sounds like it has potential, but Djay Pro is already amazing so will be hard to replace that, but the crossfader automation does sound interesting here. Would be nice to see some video of that in action for sure.

    Cool video!
    Sound is magic! Thanks!

Thanks. Do you actually move the crossfader yourself by dragging it, or just tap it?

  • …and fyi. In order to import your own sounds, they have to be placed in the skratch it folder in the files app. Perhaps it’s in there but I didn’t see that in the in-app tutorial.

People can use the fader themselves. I can't ;)

  • Noice! I used to love OTS on desktop back in the day and had a for real turntable for a bit. Really loved it. Always suprised there were not more like this on iOS. DJ Pro was good-ish for a bit but then I recall sub shenanigans and corporate etc kicked in and ruined it. Was told certain updates were coming and sure enough they did but only under a sub, so sigh/bye.

But yah, this is nice and simple, exactly what I have wanted, yum yum!

  • Can the sides be flipped? I scratch with my left hand and cut with the right (I'm not a leftie..).

  • I was looking for such an app for a long time. This is very good. Well, no AUv3, too bad but I think I can find a good use for it "as is"

  • no pitch slider?

  • It DOES sound dynamite !!

Huh, everyone else I know loves Djay Pro. It's actually one of the main reasons I bought a new iPad, and it just keeps getting better with each update (recent 5.0 was a big one). You don't even need the sub unless you want realtime stem separation (which is pretty great tbh), but the free version is all you need otherwise and can do much more than this app.

Hey hey! Looks like they allow for manually setting BPM on the free version now! That is what was mostly annoying me previously. You were locked to whatever BPM it determined your track to be. Ahh, very nice you can override it now. Thanks for the kick in the pants to try it again. :)

  • Looks cool. Kind of reminds me of the early days of iOS music, where most apps were fun and simple.

Oh wow I only started using it last year so I didn't know about that previous limitation. Right on, glad to hear they took care of that. Have fun :)

yah it is pretty sweet now! Skratchit still has the upper hand when it comes to fakey scratching but i do dig those quicky sugar bytes effects in djay for sure.

  • @bluegroove : I wonder how remixLive compares to DJay Pro

  • @ninobeatz Is it possible to load my own beat as a background beat?
I can not find the option.

I haven't tried remixLive yet, but it appears to be more of a loop launcher or groovebox, similar to Launchpad. Djay Pro on the other hand is based around 2 turntables or a traditional DJ setup, with very good beat matching capabilities for mixing/mashing/looping as well as scratching. It's very similar to Serato which is the standard for DJs, but I know more than a few who are actually switching over to Djay Pro since there is no mobile version of Serato.

Edit: I just saw your other thread where you were wondering about the stem separation specifically. I'll post my thoughts on that in your thread.

Do you all cut with your weak hand or what?

Maybe the rationale here is that since it is just a tap it makes it easier to do. But I would like it if the fader were below the shortcut keys on the left as I would like to just use my thumb and hold the side of the ipad.

  • how stable is this as an IAA ? so many IAA apps are flakey, but there are a few that are fairly solid ... if this one is ok, I'm in

Moving the fader to the edges is a great idea. But it's still weird forcing most people to use the fader with their weak hand (assuming most users strong hand is the right) because much more skill is needed to get the fader timing right than moving the disc. One of the first things you learn in turntablism.

Since it is just tapping it feels more like a gamepad to me. My wrists may not be ambidextrous but my thumbs are.
