This isn’t even mentioning watching films on a nice uncluttered screen, reading comics, books on a smaller iPad… i was reading war and peace in book form earlier this year and had to switch to iPad as its just so physically unwieldy.

Yah every now then and then I see a big juicy art book or something with tons of pictures and think it would be nice to have, but to sit at a table and shine a physical light on a surface feels like a frickin caveman now.

  • I think I have owned a desktop or laptop (or both) continually since about 1991.

Can’t imagine not owning a MacBook as it’s useful for so many things that aren’t as easy on an iPad, but one day I’ll probably not own one.

  • @Blipsford_Baubie : Ha ha , not a lot gets past you, I see ..(Subversive insults/Look like someone I can’t do”—That second one went right by most folks.
I’ve used computers at libraries, etc but I just have never owned one .

@Telstar5 , you should take your question and pitch it to Steve Harvey as the premises for one of his show segments. This material would be ripe for his style of subversive insults. Maybe you can go on to score another multi-million viewed video 😉

My favorite part was Steve’s response to your particular instruction regarding picking a rapper for you to impersonate.

    Telestar5: …but it’s gotta be someone who looks like I can’t do.

Steve Harvey: Clearly, you don’t look like you can do any of them!

I can’t help it, I’m truly a fan of your performance on that show. I have watched it every time you have shamelessly promoted it, lol. I don’t actively watch anything Steve Harvey—I’ve seen enough to catch on to his shtick —but your guest appearance on that show…you can just tell everyone was having a good time including you.
I had realized most wouldn’t get my earlier comment, which is why I attempted to post the video for added context, but it was taken down.

Also, I remember watching another one of your videos where you related your jazz drumming background to rapping.
As a casual fan of mid-20th century jazz, I truly appreciate you sharing your own insight on the metaphor you made. I certainly would have never picked up on it.

(PS. I am 49 and never had a drivers license but I have owned three cars.)

Now this is a Huh? moment for me. Driving is fun. I don't get it. I wish I still had nice cars but even with what I have, I still like driving. How can you have cars but not want to drive them?

Heh, driving where I live is horrible. I don't even like being a passenger. It stresses me out. If I was still in the town where I grew up I would probably have got my license though, mainly because the closest city with decent music stores was over four hours away. Where I am now it is much better to just hop on the train and get places with less stress. Even better still is to work from home and not even have to do that which is what I do now, plus walking.

He never said anything about not driving them. How has he managed not to get caught? Or maybe he didn’t drive them after all? Car for the spouse? Children?

Yes, the Mrs has a license and used to drive... want to buy a car with a tank likely full of jelly? Its been sitting in the parkade for years now.

I get you. I didn't leave my home town until I was late 20's. A car was essential, especially living a 1 hour bike ride from the nearest source of bread and milk. In a place where the roads are chaos, it makes sense to avoid that stress.

  • @Blipsford_Baubie : Humbked by your kind words..Wow, thank you so much .

The idea of using a computer keyboard as a midi controller is hideous haha :D I can’t think of anything less musical with less expression. It would be a really amateur setup. But I guess if all you’re doing is triggering loops

I just bought a small mechanical clicky keyboard just to use with Koala!

I’m a writer. Laptops don’t give me any option for which keyboard I use or distance from the screen or arrangement. I don’t think I could ever go back to that restriction

This is a really great point. I’mma writer too, but I really like the MacBook keyboards. That said, I usually work with the Macbook docked to a big screen, keyboard, trackpad etc.

  • I can't imagine not using a computer. The iPad is solely a music device for me, every other task (including leisure activities) is done way better on a PC, whatever OS it is (I've used Win/Mac/Linux, and they are mostly interchangeable for my tasks).

It definitely depends where you live. Driving in cities is generally not fun, especially when most drivers are totally inept behind the wheel but all think they own the road.
