Very nice. Unfortunately that's extremely rare. Wish everyone else would follow suit.
only mono AT, no poly
The ASM synths have poly AT too. Also, Waldorf but ok Waldorf are really expensive. behringer ob
I really wish more midi controllers had it as well, but one can dream.
I am a big fan of Arturia but this is not for me but of course, YMMV.
I have an Arturia Keystep 37, a Arturia Minifuse 2 and an Apple iPad loaded with synths (virtual analog, wavetable, FM, granular. additive you name it)... that´s my "Astroipad" setup.

I feel like a lot of performers want poly AT, but for some reason the manufacturers are dragging their heels a little. At this point it feels like poly AT should be standard on MIDI controllers. Check this out, a case for more expressive controllers:
Shame the ring company went bust ! Maybe that’s why they’re dragging the heels !
Not really sure this is a useful product, also product design looks an April fool's joke with that screen and lack of knobs.
I can see the appeal but it’s way too much money.
Some tech is ahead of time for sure. QR codes are old but everywhere nowadays lol I just wonder how much more it adds to cost with poly AT ?
I did not know that. I like the large quantities of presets in iMini. Way better than the ones in Model D. Yeah I know, I am trying to learn to make my own.
I feel exactly the same... And this seems to be only the initial investment since Arturia software (sold separately) can offer so much more presets that can be uploaded to astrolab
I think it looks pretty nice myself, too bad their higher end key beds are crap or I’d consider it.
I’ve heard the same about the key beds for their bigger controllers 😞
This product was not meant to be used by progressive musicians like us, it was made for the stage. You sure remember that a long time ago, musicians used to perform on stages in front of the public.
i reckon to add Poly AT its like 2 to 15 euro extra and companies not liking to pay that much extra on a product. That's a 100 % mark up at least on the end customer of course. maybe there are some design patents.
My Ensoniq keyboard from 30 years ago had poly after touch — It also had 1MB RAM. some things date it more than others :-)
If I was gigging today I’d use a MacBook with MainStage. But this does look cool for people that don’t want computers on stage. If there are any left?
I used to gig with one of the original white first ever Intel MacBooks running Logic. It never let me down once.
Nine inch nails used to use old DX7s as controllers. All the expensive gear was offstage and protected. Not many DX7s lasted the night.
I think for my purposes if i was gigging I’d rather have a really cheap keyboard and a MacBook still. It’s the keyboards that take a hammering in gigs. I used to use a little Novation XioSynth as it had a built in midi and audio interface. The case of it was smashed to bits even though I was really careful with it. The MacBook didn’t get a scratch.
Having said all of that, I like Arturia stuff. I have analog lab pro and V collection 8 — they make good synths. I also have an Arturia as my main midi controller and it works really well with Logic, mapping faders, knobs etc. it also integrates with analog lab pretty well directly.
I think I get pretty much the same experience only my screen on the keyboard isn’t colour.
Arturia know their market though. They wouldn’t have made this thing if it didn’t have a market.
If you want to do deep edits you have buy the actual software. At that point you’d be better off with a MacBook Air and a good midi controller.
Most likely but the question many of us ask is if the price is justified. Akai Key is 850€. I know it's not the best comparison but shows you the price difference.
Yes, it’s expensive, and they don’t even include V Collection. It’s really for piano players. Semi-weighted keyboard, not low profile, requires a stand, is without touch pads, etc.
Mac mini and Komplete Kontrol is a better option than this and nearly the same price depending on which models you buy.
Edit: the more I think about it the more I agree with you.
The keys on my Polybrute were so meh I ended up selling it.
Totally. MK3 is dope with the big screen and costs around 800€. If you have a laptop already, you can spend the other 800 on a lot of additional NI software and at the end you spent as much as astrolab costs.
If NI ported Komplete Kontrol and their play series instruments to iPad they'd have a really nice competitor.
Starsky shares the same opinion with most of us.
Yeah, I have MKI, still good. I debated a second one with mk3. Astrolab doesn't come close to flexibility of KK.
There are some nice features on the AstroLab. The knobs are endless encoders with high-resolution light rings around each knob. As you change from 1 patch to another, the light rings reflect all of the settings for each patch. This is a huge step up from what I get with every MIDI keyboard controller that I have tried.
That's where KK MK3 comes in. It supports MIDI 2.0. The encoders are virtual knobs, with labels and values displayed on the screen. Obviously, that requires software support, but their software does that, and more should be coming.
Korg Keystage has some nice features and I agree that MIDI 2.0 will be a big part of the solution. However Keystage has pots, not encoders (I am not familiar with virtual knobs). Keystage also has no lights around each knob so you will have to turn and "latch" each parameter whenever you change patches.
The Astrolab should have a small display screen beneath each encoder like the Keystage has (especially at that price point).
