  • I'm looking forward to seeing this on the iPad. All this control at your fingertips :o :o :o

    I actually prefer the latter.

EDIT: there was a picture in the post above but it seems to have vanished for me...

If you're referring to my post, it’s still there, and many people prefer airplane cockpits, for example, all of the modular crowd. ;)

I do have a lot of modular as well!

This is really powerful. Just had a play with it on desktop. So much to play with and tweak. Thankfully some of the presets are more bread and butter as the first couple of banks were more experimental, more reminiscent of Sugar Bytes factory presets maybe.

I couldn't quite get how randomisation works with the drum patterns though - no dice for patterns/sequences that I could see whereas there are many dice and randomisation methods for sound parameters. Maybe drum pattern randomisation works a different way.

A couple of concerns though ... the randomiser (main one in the top right which randomises everything) leads to presets that most often produced screeching chaos, which I'm guessing means that some parameters are being pushed into super high resonance or similar. The randomiser amount can be altered in settings, but even at 10% most results were very hard on the ear and not usable.

Maybe just needs some tweaking. The randomiser in Silo and Lo-Fi-AD is excellent and has given me many useful ideas for new presets.

Also, in desktop, while playing around with the randomiser, my audio drivers locked up and I had to restart the computer, which is something which never really happens. Thought I was going to get a BSOD. Maybe not related to Battalion, but it's a very rare occurrence.

Overall impression very positive though - could feel the sheer power and potential of it just after a quick play.

@Luxthor , looks like Brambos had his hands on that first picture 😉

Yeah, I had some suspicion, but I didn’t have a clue to pinpoint exactly what gave away Brambos involvement. ;)

Sorry for derailing the thread, although there are many similarities between Hammerhead and Battalion.

  • Did anyone notice, that LION (and Batta-lion) is a kind of smart name for a synth? First I was puzzled, but it's not about the meaning, but the shapes: LI - Square, O - Sine and N - Saw :)

I’d like to know if there’s a word for this, like onomatopoeia for things that have names that imitate the sound they make. It’s maybe a bit like an emoticon.

    Iconicity?

  • Is there any information about when this will become available on iOS?

    Iconicity?

Thanks. That's a part of it, but not all. Here's an example I googled:

A road sign that marks a bicycle lane and has an image of bicycle on it is iconic because the form of the sign, in particular the graphic image on it, is related in a direct way to its meaning; both form and meaning have to do with bicycles.

What's missing is that it's a word at the same time.

Think that is called a 'rebus'

    Thanks, not bad, getting closer.

    Found this example online:

a puzzle in which words are represented by combinations of pictures and individual letters; for instance, apex might be represented by a picture of an ape followed by a letter X.

Maybe it's a kind of reverse rebus hidden in plain sight, because it presents itself as just a name for synth, that can roar (among other things), but secretly gives you the same information via icons.

Maybe there's a bit of multi sensual hendiadyoin in there.

Where? I hope you're joking. I think it will happen tomorrow. Well, at least the day after tomorrow

  • The developer wrote on elektronauts forum about ios version:

No ETA yet, as there are two components that need to happen first:

    1. We like to wait a little bit to make sure the version that we’re about to port to iOS is very stable, as iOS is its own can of worms.
    2. We have a sample distribution contract addendum with NI since we’re using sounds from their library. We’re working with them on getting the sample library cleared for a different distribution system.

Also, I’ll need some time off to get my head screwed back on straight after two years of this consuming my life

  • C’mon release that thing, I don’t care about bugs, we have a spray for that.

Not convinced it’s rebus (as can’t identify specific coded word or phrase from ‘battalion’).

Don’t think it’s hendiadys as there is no explicit conjunction in ‘battalion’ (the “and” word is missing, even in any abstract sense).

In my opinion, could be, loosely, a semiotic ‘symptom-index’ (waveforms as a ‘symptom’ of synthesis, included visually in the word-sign through character choice) or, possibly a ‘symbolic icon’ (waveforms as associated with synthesis)… these definitions are definitely not of concrete type and for sure can overlap.

I cannot shake off the feeing that this could be a text-book example of apophenia.

However, it’s got me looking up words and thinking about semiotics, which can’t be a bad thing. Thanks for the diversison!

  • How fast can this go? With all the modulation and synth engines it could be an amazing drone machine

it might be more dependent on how fast the host can go ( unless you arent linking the tempo ). You could always crank it up to ma and add some delay lines and reverb to smooth it out a bit for a drone.

Looks like aum goes to 999 bpm so with 16ths and 32nds we can get to drone speeds
