    Release notes have dropped:
    LP4i 2.0: https://support.apple.com/en-us/101628
    LP4m 11.0: https://support.apple.com/en-euro/109503

Based on the notes there are some nice quality-of-life improvements, e.g. the ability to rearrange effect plugins in the horizontal track view (rather than having to go to the mixer). Click the pencil icon to enable this.

There's also the ability to duplicate an open project, but it's not clear to me if this functions as a "save as" or if it just duplicates the current state or what. (ETA: it looks like the "duplicate" ends up being the state of the project when you opened it maybe)

Still no midi transport control or mapping… 🙄

My most wanted functionality. Basic MIDI learn.
    Maybe next year. 😕

Yeah that's a big disappointment, but I kind of figured it would have been mentioned in the release announcement back on the 7th.

  • On the plus side you can now route midi internally… 👍

I think you’ve always been able to do that…

This is probably the best addition for me 👍

Yeah, Apple are dropping the ball here. This is insane. I'm sure they said in their keynote last week that Logic Pro 2 would be released today. Wild.

    Today isn't over.

And it is out! Woohoo! That's awesome!

  • It seems like the update is mostly geared towards things i never use lol.. i call them the handicap apps 🤣 a drummer and bass player tool… idk i want to write my own music and this isn’t up my alley.

Looking forward to trying the stem splitter tho and maybe chromaglow

  • The piano and bass session players are deeper than I first thought, they can be manually customised with a lot of detail and nuance. They can follow global or region chords, have detailed voicing settings for both hands with piano and can use a wide range of scales and modes for non-chord melody tones. This is not your average arranger keyboard type accompaniment…

The travel to make Logic Pro for iPad equal to big brother will not end today - hopefully we get an v.2.1 before the end of summer…

Hav’nt got a chance to test it out yet - 16GB download when your internet broadband seems half broken tonight… Hmmm…

I’m def going to check it out, the bass player looks cool. I’ve just always hated the way they work on GB , i just wish the focus would have been geared towards MIDI and UI stuff…

You don’t have to use the players to use the new pianos and basses. They’re pretty deeply sampled by the looks of it and sound great — especially as they’re stock instruments. The basses come with a ton of articulations. If you do use the ‘AI’ you can convert it to MIDI and edit to your hearts’ content.

  • Dang, my internet is kinda limited right now. Might have to cruise up to Dunkin and hop on their WiFi to download some of these bigger packs.

I am kinda stoked to hear the new basses for sure. This update just kinda feels like a garage band pro , but ima keep it for another month at least and see if i spend time there or just find myself back to aum / loopy

  • Chromaglow is pretty impressive to me, so many saturation varieties it can do without sounding too fake.

Downloaded…after nearly 25 minutes of use…I think it’s not going to be quick to get used to, and they seemed to have fixed nothing at all from 1.0

They haven’t fixed the crash on save on large projects. Still have to kill the app to be able to load again. :(

If AI is really getting that good, perhaps they should employ it to fix all these bugs :)

That crash is probably plugin-related. In my case it happens if I have MagicDeathEye on the master bus.

  • It seems to me Apple have missed a trick with the Chord Track and the Session Players: they should have also included the chord detection from Music Memos so that you can instantly create polished recordings from acoustic guitar demos. Basically replicating the Music Memos functionality inside Logic. The tech is there already.

Not sure what you mean, I loaded a Riffler clip and a session pianist and automagically a chord track was created which the pianist followed

OK, so it auto-detected your Riffler clip? I'll try it with a guitar part.

    I hadn't considered a misbehaving plugin.

I do have MagicDeathEye on the master bus but it still crashes if I remove it. Other projects that have MDE close and re-open just fine so it's a bit random. I'll go digging around in the rest of the project one plugin at a time, see if I can nail the issue down.

    Thanks!

  • In my testing there doesn't appear to be any automatic chord detection, if you add a session player some chords are added to conform with the project's chosen key, but Logic doesn't analyse any existing audio for chord detection.

This is a guitar demo recorded with the phone mic into Music Memos, the app will accurately detect the chords that are played, and create a bass and drum accompaniment:

The same audio imported into Logic, the tempo can be analysed and the Drummer can match the playing in the audio file, but if I add a session bassist the chord progression doesn't match the audio, it just conforms to the key that is set with the project:

  • I tried adding AI Piano, Bass, and Drums to a Guitar track I recorded in Logic and I found the parts matched the chords and tempo I was playing, which is pretty nice. I definitely found the added parts to sound lifeless and uninteresting. Just filler, did not add anything interesting to the potential tune. Just my first try though, with all the tweakability I probably can get them playing in my pathetic style.

  • Pretty sure there is no audio chord detection…
What is interesting to me is the new Apple Loops with built in chord progressions - some of them have interesting and sophisticated chord progressions that can be copied to the master chord track.

That's breakfast, lunch, and dinner! It defies logic!

That’s just a light breakfast in Murica.

  • Is the new release - when using just the basic stuff, nothing advanced like new effects or stem splitter - heavier on the CPU than the previous release? I have a 2020 A13 iPad and I was wondering if I should stay with the old release for now.

Chromaglow is the money shot to me…too bad it’s not on my Mac version (i7)

Not sure I understand the new save thing entirely…it’s apples new version of save as I guess

  • Is it me or does the manual mix up the function of ChromaGlow’s Bypass?

Bypass Below field: Set the highpass filter frequency, preserving high frequencies while distorting mid and low frequencies.
