Odd thing whilst playing with the controls, the app lost all sound. Quitting and restarting the app did don't help and then I found that the entire iPad had lost sound. All system sound was lost. Had to reboot to get sound back. Anyone had a similar experience?

Not with this one, but having the sound go out system wide has happened a few times here. Dunno what can cause it, fortunately it's very rare tho

  • I left the arp running for a while and notes started dropping, anyone's experienced this?

  • Doug's video had me hooked in 30 seconds (thanks as always for your work!). This thing legitimately sounds different - really dig the percussive thing layered with the tones. In fact, it's kind of ironic that Orphion went on sale today because it may be the closest thing I've heard that does that sort of percussive thing.

Some of the sounds are downright orchestral; almost sounding more like a sample than something synthetic. Really cool, even if it probably needs some updates to iron things out.

    This happened to me earlier

IT'S A VIRUS! (Just kidding, obviously some sort of glitch. And not one that's likely to stop me from spending $4.99 on it later tonight :))

Just a little heads up on something I totally missed...Save that ARP pattern you've been working on, it doesn't get saved along with the preset, it has its own tiny preset file menu system button inside the arp module. Also seems that it only saves the "length" parameter (along with the sequencer), dunno if it's a bug or oversight, hopefully something that'll get sorted out tho

oh the synth sounds great, I'm a total sucker for resonant synthesis too (my favorite modules in both gadget and caustic)

  • I am in love with this synthesizer. I had to write something about it and here it is:

    tiny.cc/laplace

Here's the track for those that don't like reading. :)

BUT struggling to hook it up in Cubasis

Anyone else having trouble? Does this work with Cubasis? Does its arp sync to Cubasis's clock?

  • Why did I click on that video?!!!! This app sounds good and definitely does something the other synths I have don't do. Now to ask myself if I NEED it...luckily, I was reminded in a comment above that there's a similar synth in caustic, which I haven't really used recently. We shall see...

  • Anyone tried this in multitrack studio as IAA? Does it work?

    @mrufino
Thanks, your comment above reminded me I can flow a physically modeled synth like Laplace into BM2 on my 5s using Caustic's KS

then I remembered all the other synthy goodies in Caustic. Holy shit.

With the "one midi channel per instrument" feature in Caustic, it seems multiple instances of whatever synth can be sequenced with whatever other synths on offer in Caustic...

Edit- just tried it, and way cool: it is indeed do-able to sequence a bunch of the KS synths, or any of the others, in parallel, then record each one...

A fun trick that also works with multiple Edens from NS sequenced and tracked into BM2...also works on iPad with Caustic, NS, Stroke Machine, iSynPoly, I wish Gadget...
Sorry for the digression, thanks for the reminder mrufino....

  • Cool, it was @CalCutta who reminded me! Still, having just watched the videos again, this is a very cool synth. Just trying to decide if I need it now or if I buy it when a situation presents a need. I know it's $5...I've had a lot of just $5 purchases as of late! I'll probably give in...

  • And just checking out KSsynth in caustic again, it is plucked sounds and metallic sounds only, so this one does bowed and blown sounds too...I guess I'm going to get it soon enough.

  • Pretty sure you'll like it

  • Loving this app. As a bonus, it is very helpful in learning how to use the Waveguide in Tera Synth.

  • @bennorland, I had the same problem, but it came back to normal after restarting the app.

Which one in Gadget you mean? There's nothing like this in Gadget (would be cool though)

  • KSSynth is very similar, it uses the same plucked string algorithim.

  • Laplace is working perfectly for me so far using iPad Air 8.0.2

Laplace is like a more in-depth version of the Chiang Mai synth in Gadget and the KSSynth in Caustic.

  • Loving this synth. Unique lovely sounds that are actually musically useful. It comes with a nice set of basic presets but it's super simple to quickly create your own. I would highly recomend it.

I did. I don't think it works. Couldn't get it to play audio (this is on iOS7).

I have an issue with several IAA apps in MTS where you can link up the app but there's no sound and the controllers within MTS don't work. But dev seemed to indicate there was an update coming that would impact IAA...

In fact, I don't recall seeing mini-controls appear for most of the apps I try to link up with MTS - though mini controls are pretty inconsistent with IAA across the board. That's my one gripe with MTS - it has incredible MIDI features for sequencing, but it's built with an IAA framework in mind, and I tend to use AudioBus. And, of course, Laplace doesn't have AB yet.

that's why I started my what works/what doesn't work in MTS chart which Mr. Bremmers indicated would be rendered obsolete by the next MTS update. You can message me if you that chart.

Laplace actually worked in MTS for me -- I downloaded and tried it out for a few minutes before i went to sleep. The IAA transport controls are very tiny, but they're there. I didn't have the issues using it that i have with MitoSynth or Grain Science, for instance, which don't work at all in MTS. I'm on an iPad 4 with iOS 7.1.2.

  • I like the sounds here a lot. They do fill a space that I am partial to (I love Chiang Mai, which may explain things better), however with so many other things app-wise on the plate I am leaning towards putting it to one side until AB is implemented. If it is.

  • Sounds great, I'm sold. 3 quid & a 1.6mb footprint for such wonderful resonance....what's not to like ( apart from the absence of AB) ? Hopefully coming in an update !

  • I bought it too, very cool on initial inspection. I'll be able to make some cool bass sounds with this.

My bad then. I don't think I've ever properly taught myself how to set up IAA in MultiTrackStudio. Sometimes it just "works", but in other cases, the problem is from the source app, which may have BCKD AUDIO turned off or not assigned to MIDI properly. Other times, the track unarms itself (so no audio) or it isn't monitoring properly. Frustrating b/c when it works, the ability to record and touch up MIDI data all in the same place is awesome.

Regarding Laplace itself, I was happy with it! I'm no sound designer, but even with the few dozen presets that are included, you can turn just a few knobs that blend the percussive and resonant bits and dramatically change the character of it. Yes, it is a little reminiscent of KSSynth (Caustic) or perhaps Yumi Synth, but I think it's far more powerful.

The arpeggiator is...an arpeggiator - it works but I tend to find the onboard ones pretty limiting compared to something like StepPolyArp or Arpeggionome. But the delay and chorus are top-notch. Not surprising since those effects are part of the enduring relevance of Cassini.

Core and Virtual MIDI both behaved as they should, and set up quickly.

It needs AudioBus, that's really my only major gripe about it right now. Love the small footprint, and I don't know if $4.99 is an introductory price, but grab it now if it's something you think you're interested in.

  • Now this is a synth that should have polyphonic Glide and Aftertouch!

When MTS works it's the business, but it does have some quirks and missing functions that make me think it's still somewhat of a work in progress. But that's for another thread. =)

And yes, Background Audio is a must. The Virsyn synths often have it turned off by default, which is very annoying. It would be nice if each app just had a default setting for Background Audio so that user could always have it on.
