Very true @Fruitbat1919
@Fruitbat1919 yip totally get that.
In my case, if I delete accounts it’s because in some way that account is giving me anxiety. The other reason would be my adhd is bad and it’s a massive source of distraction, procrastination etc. Deleting is a hard reset. Yes I can still visit, but there’s a disconnect that helps me not get too involved.
Exactly, it’s whatever is right for the individual and how they can cope. When I was a nurse, it was shocking to see how many just saw the diagnosis, but were seemingly blind to the individuals needs. I’ve had doctors for years telling me about my condition when I’ve lived with it for so long that I could teach them. Every few years I also get a ‘review’, which is some doctor telling me what I can and can’t do and how I can do such and such while still in pain - takes me all my strength to educate them and not just smack them in the gob!
@Fruitbat1919 can relate to that.
Very much an individual thing. With regards this topic, I struggle with organising myself. I’m usually too far deep in the hole to realise before drastic action is required. It helps me streamline and prioritise. It can seam extreme to everyone else, whatsapps, twitter, ect go as well. But for me it’s been brewing. It’s also an easy two hours + a day. With WhatsApp it’s worse cos it’s interrupting.
@squeals @Fruitbat1919 I myself simply turn notifications off for FB Messenger and FB Main (aka the only social media platform I use). In fact I turn off anything that can send a distracting notification while producing on my iPhone, except texts and calls.
I visit FB Main maybe once or twice a week. FB Messenger is daily, a couple times a day. But as I said, notifications are off as I don't need the "floating pfps" on my screen begging me to respond right away to someone.
That said, producing music on an iPhone can sometimes be tricky for me. I have a friend who works at a thrift store (where only the boss gets paid, and the others volunteer their time). Whenever something is donated my friend finds interesting, he snaps at least three photos and sends it to a group text with me and two other friends.
Then when he doesn't hear back from us right away within the hour, he freaks out and is like "is everyone okay? Did you get my pictures?!" And if someone doesn't make sure to specify the exact amount of pictures they got, he freaks out again. 🙄 And it's usually pictures the most mundane shit like lightbulbs and alarm clocks. 😂
Anyways, ding ding ding ding ding ding ding go my notifications as my other friends feel obligated to answer that one friend right away. It's all rather maddening. (I think I'll have to mute text and call notifications too whenever I dig into producing music on my iPhone from now on.)
All that to say.....I understand 100% why someone would want to delete their account here as opposed to simply logging off and leaving. It is a hard reset and a way to reduce being distracted. At least in spite of my ADHD I can manage most of my distractions simply by turning off notifications for everything and just stick to not opening apps and browsers during production sessions. 😅
Bump that junk. Notifications? Except for extreme weather, all my notifications are scheduled to be received once daily towards the end of day.
Neither FB messenger nor FB are installed on my phone. I manually sign in and out of web FB a couple times a month, check my inbox for messages, and log out. No scrolling.
Unless it’s somebody from my contacts, all calls automatically get diverted directly to voice mail, no banners of the incoming call.
My volume switch is always off.
I wasn’t always like this either. I used to be like yous. Then one day I took the time to explore all of these awesome settings iphone has to offer and use it to weaponize a gnarly defense for my limited attention.
On the daily, our attention is finite resource. It doesn’t matter if you’re on the spectrum or if you’re a genius.
I know I’m too late, but farewell @srvp
I didn't know I could do that. That's awesome. Sadly the above mentioned friend is in my contacts. In fact, the pain in the arse sent pics of a lightbulb he tested at the thrift store.
Same with mine.
I had no idea I could schedule notifications. I'll have to dig into my settings to see what's there.
But yes attention is a finite resource. And I cannot afford distractions anymore.
Yeah, you can do the scheduled notifications on a per app basis if you’d like.
Lights bulbs?! That. Is. Awesome.
Sounds like a good friend. You can do cool things with some potatoes, tinfoil, a battery, and some light bulbs.
A warm light bulb up yer arse feels pretty cool too. Just be careful as to avoid an embarrassing trip to the ER.
Haven’t tried this, but I think you may be able to create a separate group of contacts so that you can treat it with different settings.
Now that I'm home from my gig, time to take a peek in scheduling notifications.
😆 Fuckin hell, rofl. You crack me up.
Oh cool! I'll do that then.

I think there are a lot of reasons why people leave or stop visiting. In some cases, they are dealing with trying to curb app addiction, sometimes they tire of bickering or interpersonal clashes of some kind, some may feel they can’t speak their mind here. Sometimes they might just get interested in other stuff, they might want to prioritize real life relationships. Some want less screen time. Some get bored of iOS, they’re more into desktop or hardware. Some are just happy with the apps they have, don’t have many questions, etc, so don’t need to come here. If you look at old threads here, from, say, 6 or 8 years ago, the majority, probably the vast majority, of participants are no longer active.
Your last sentence make me feel opposite (partly) - there are a lot of people here that was here in the beginning 2012, and, still are!
Well, let’s not argue about it haha. Majority or not, there are still a lot who have left, and yes, there are a lot still here too.
One of those famous forum threads, where people come and go. Name of the game. Was happening back in 90s, and it's happening now as well. But yes this forum is one of better ones. Always interesting to read
