Is it just me or IOS music apps have been a bit quieter this year..
I joined the AB forum last year and ever since then, I have been heavily into purchasing new synths and apps for IOS music production. I have been thinking about last year and all the amazing apps and updates compared to this year. Last year I got LoopyPro, Bram Bos Hilda and Salome, Logic Pro, Drambo 2, Koala, Subscription Synth, Animoog 2, SynthMaster2, Ableton Note, Dagger, ButterSynth, and many other amazing apps, but maybe it was just that I was catching up on stuff. It just seems this year has been quite calm compared to last year. This year's highlights have been maybe Nodes, Patterning 3, Korg Gadget 3, and a few others.

Notable releases this year so far for me: Buzz Zone, Scaler EQ, Relic Flow, Harmony Bloom, Axon 3, Rings FX, Weeping Wall, Stellarvox, EG Nodes.
I’m in the same boat having purchased most of the same apps in the past year. I know not all of those came out last year though, but there was also BlipBox, Phase Monkey and the AudioThing effects that I use like crazy!
I assume you mean that you feel there haven’t been as many apps released this year? There have been a few notable releases, but maybe more evolutionary than revolutionary?
There are more but those are the ones I pounced on and use the most!
I think last year there was a bit of a flurry as some devs were expecting good things for the platform with the release of logic pro, it does seem that this year is quieter, definitely.
I just feel (my opinion of course and very subjective) that last year had some amazing apps..
And thank god it's quieter. We can all enjoy using what we have instead of constantly learning new things!
Yes, that is what I'm doing..Learning what they can all really do and save some $$. Waiting for Beep Street or Bram Bos to deliver
Perhaps Apple is making it more difficult for developers??
I think drum machines are a huge win this year (axon and patterning. And maybe battalian later?) but what else could be developed.? There has to be a peak or level of saturation occurs. We’re lucky we have options and choice, as well as balance and at least one app can do whatever you’re thinking of now. Quieter? Maybe - but not too quiet. It’s good anyway. Quality takes time
I think it's good to appreciate what we have on our ipads now and it's important to learn them well..I was just thinking about life and I often like to think past /present and future, even if it's a waste of energy.
It's getting tough out there for a developer... and their customers. I can't speak for anyone else, but inflation has definitely caused me to drastically cut back on spending.
Mostly I only spend money on rompler IAPs these days. The more sounds at my disposal the better. XinematiX, Module Pro, Pure Synth Platinum 2, Beathawk, etc. I'm very selective of purchasing new apps otherwise.
Yes, I think this is becoming the new norm, This inflation is only beneficial for the ones at the top. Most people are just getting by with their everyday needs to survive,
It’s weird - although Logic is a subscription, it is saving me money because it does more or less everything I want. Definitely feel less need to buy apps. For example, I searched for years for a great drum app, but the drummer session player does everything I need. I had also searched for a great sounding bass guitar and had started using BeatHawk- but Logic’s bass player is better. Who needs mastering apps if you’ve got Logic? The KB-1 keyboard doesn’t work properly in Logic, but the built in keyboard does all I need anyway.
I appreciate there’s a whole world outside linear songwriting to which the above does not apply, but this is how it is in my case.
I never got into Logic myself, but I'm sure it's more than capable of making great music. I prefer Drambo or just using AUM, but everyone has a different workflow depending on their creativity. Definitely some of Logic's synths sound great. I also don't like subscriptions.

That's a good point about Logic. Some devs were rushing to get apps out before its release, exactly because they worried people might buy fewer apps after they had Logic. Also worth noting that Koala and FLSM are basically always the best selling paid iOS apps, and neither even hosts AUv3s. Sure, many are using Koala in a host app along with AUv3s, but I bet a lot of beatmakers are also just using it to load samples.
Koala is great because of its great workflow and ease. It has inherited many hardware hip hop and lofi MPC / SP404 users into iPad territory.
Koala is literally the greatest of all time. Before that I had groovebox, I used garage band and even nanostudio. After koala my whole worldview changed. It's literally better than a hardware sampler.
Of course it could do with a better reverb effect (my only bugbear)
Idk about all that, this year has been a blast new app and iOS forward wise!
Skratch it, Prism Sequencer, MusicMemos, Harmony Bloom, Weeping Wall (and soon to come Ridgewalk), Relic Flow, Neon Sequencer, jAMP Bleep, Primo, Nodes, Patterning 3, Bleass Arpeggiator, upcoming Battalion, Scaler EQ, Divided by 11, FAC Smash, the introduction of Tone Packets in 4Pockets Apps, the introduction of emulation and the ability to use LSDJ, Korg DS-10+, LGPT10, and Rhythm-8, the synchronization between Koala and the Sp-404mk2, Gagdet Auv3s, Logic got stem splitting and session players, BAM got audio clips, mirack became polyphonic + auv3 hosting. Just waiting on those midi donuts in Loopy Pro, audio clips in Drambo, and BM4 🤞🏾
I would love to see Koala have some filter envelopes / ADSR that can be routed by lfo. Maybe as an effect? This would be great to make it great for synth sounds and pads.
I have the same viewpoint RE Koala. Once it got the Buss Mixer, not even the sky became the limit. I can literally produce any genre in Koala, even "Rock".

(Although I added vocals on top in Cubasis 3, but vocals are pretty much what I use CB3 for, lol.)
That said, I've returned to NS2 to build an album in it. 5 tracks done so far, and I'm working on the 6th track. What's crazy is I'm far quicker at building tracks in Koala or, say, in FLSM, but on the other side of the coin there are certain AUv3 FX I miss, let alone Obsidian (one of the most complex-but-user-friendly synths on iOS). And NS2 can even host Koala, lol.
I agree with that, but I'm sure if we ask @elf_audio nicely he'll consider adding a second, more robust reverb.

Probably already mentioned here, but, the majority of apps you mention above isn't released under 2023...
Apps not released under 2023: Drambo v2, Synthmaster v2, Loopy Pro, Koala, Animoog Z (2)...
So, this year isn't that bad at it seems...
So, don't feel too miserable...
Although we have the super great Patterning v3, many users of iPad is awaiting Klevgränds amazing drumsampler ONESHOT!
They have promised that it will be available this year to iPad... Great stuff!
