And we are all waiting for AudioShare 3...

    Has it been rumored?

  • Korg iM1 auv3 released in april was a nice surprise

    Yeah, just right!

iM1 is such a great synth (I also have to original M1 from the 80's) - sounds really great, nice UI, and wonderful patches from Korg!

Now we awaiting iWorkstation and the rest of the great IAP synths from Gadget as AUv3!

I agree. And with Korg working on more AUv3 conversions, it's an exciting time for iOS music. Even if just a bit quieter than last year.

  • I’m to dumb to recall what came out when but i have purchased some really fun apps this year after a long break.

i just need to focus on finishing songs the rest of the year and not getting halfway in and just moving on 🤣

It's true. There's a few of those Korg synths that I haven't purchased yet since they're not AUv3 and I don't spend much time in gadget. But they'll be insta-buys if/when AUv3 versions drop. And the other gadgets' conversion to AUv3 earlier this year has made it feel like I got a whole bunch of new instruments for free in my Logic workflow.

I have no complaints about 2024 in music apps really. We got a good, substantive update to Logic, we got Mariana (technically in December 2023 but I'm calling it for 2024) and Patterning is back in a big way. And, it seems like we're getting close to having MIDI loops in Loopy Pro, which will IMO produce a whole new wave of interest.

As always, I think developers are still trying to feel out how to make a living in this marketplace. Some developers seem to be taking a "loss-leader" approach in the hope of selling desktop licenses, and if that trend continues maybe we'll get to see some more big names enter the market.

I have to try the original one day, I wonder what would feel like hah. I bought the app thanks to the hype on this forum, and it's just great + impressively light on the cpu.

I dived into the iPad world in the end of 2022 with modstep to sequence some hardware, but quickly went to the Loopy/Drambo route, and ultimately sold the HW synths and loopers.
There are only less than 10 apps on my iPad but my god it feels like I have a Ferrari and I'm more oriented towards live gigs.

Maybe 2024 is a normal fluctuation but I have high hopes for the future.

    A Ferrari is right!

I'm continuously impressed by what we have here. The quality, and the package.

I swear Everytime I've looked at a new piece of hardware in the past 4 years I'm reminded that i have the virtually the same audio quality and features in a tiny, portable, touch sensitive screen, with long battery life, and built in speakers.

It just destroys my desire to own any other objects and i love it.

I'm an idiot if I'm not blown away everyday by what we have. I mean the 80's was cool for innovation, but DEAR GOD IT ALL WORKS AND SOUNDS GREAT ON MY PHONE. 😭😭😭

What I love about music production with my iPad is that it's portable, powerful and contained. I can focus much better by working with what have only on my iPad.. There's really no need to have externally more gear, but it all depends on your style and workflow. The sound quality is just as good for me as desktop DAWs, when using a proper audio interface.

Depends on the person I think, for sure!
Cos if you are buying expensive external gear, like an $800 synth, you're likely to limit your purchases and really learn what you have. But with an iPad, if getting all or even most of the cheap apps that come out, some people might find themselves addicted to those regular dopamine hits, and chronically distracted by novelty. So the iPad is only 'contained' if you exercise self control. But I agree 100% on the portable and powerful bits.

  • I think this year has been great for iOS tbh. There’s been a lot of quality apps and there’s been some moves by bigger developers. Sometimes regular support of existing apps is just as important as new ones and that must take up devs resources. This year I’ve been enjoying and more importantly for me using in tracks…weeping wall, jAMP bleep (really love that and it’s free!), relic flow, buzz zone, things, taip, trash.
There’s apps like Patterning3, nerd synth, grind, primo, axon 3 that I’ve not really had much chance to explore yet.

That’s without even getting into some of the great sales from klevgrand, imaginando, baby audio ect.
I’ve added some really quality apps to my collection recently.

Personally, all in I’m very happy with the state of play. I’m enjoying iOS music making more than ever and I think the music I’m making has improved for it.

  • Have you tried Toneboosters MBC?
