A lot to like here ❤️

First of all it’s a great song, I love the vocal melody, and the lead guitar parts throughout are really interesting.

The vocals are great, as is the arrangement which is interesting and unconventional, and finally the bass which is pulsing under it all is also very well done.

    Great job all around.

Merci mon ami ! Very surprised by the warm welcome for this one. I was not very sure about sharing it for reason you clearly know, but had to since you contributed to the lyrics. Should we include it to our coming album ?

It should definitely go on the album, which is almost there, I've made a track listing, we're just one or two tracks away from completion.

Really good. Love the "is it over" chorus. Properly good. Great song and great production too. Single material not album filler!

Grabs you from that first chord progression.

Thank you for listening Meeester Smeeeeeth ! So it seems the song caught a few people's attention here. Didn't expect that!

Music can be a great way to rid oneself of negative thoughts, obsessions and fears. Look at David Bowie's body of work, for example.

Bowie turned his whole life and death into art. Black Star is absolutely incredible...

    Super chanson.
    Le refrain est super accrocheur.
    Belle suite d’accords.
Les guitares sont super bien arrangées.
    Bravo.

Merci Flo! Recevoir un compliment venant de toi concernant les guitares, c'est quelque chose !!! Ravi que la chanson te plaise !

Very cool track. Definitely has the vibe of Queens of the Stone Age, especially from the "like clockwork" era. Cool main melody, after a few listens today it stuck in my head on my bike ride.

    Thank you for listening!
I Like QOTSA a lot. Saw them in a medium sized venue in Osaka few months back. It was great!
The song stuck in your head? That's a good sign!

Yeah, everything said above. You say gallows but it’s a guillotine. Very cutting and French of you, my friend. They may be rolling some out here in 2025 if things go badly.

I was aware of that, I thought the guillotine had more impact for the visual but "gallows 2.0" on the laptop screen had the " latest Windows update" connotation I found also interesting, so I decided to mix up everything together... Gallows, guillotine, the result is quite the same in the end 🤣. Yeah 2025...
But you know, it is a big big mess in France this month following European parliament elections. Macron decided to dissolved the French chamber and many heads are already rolling now... With the huge threat of Le Pen's daughter far right party... In a sense, happy to be away, not to have to see my country like this...

@JanKun let’s start with the outro - yes, those guitars are something else. Quite excellent! I’m never sure what post-rock means (perhaps I should google it), but this is a hugely enjoyable and ahem, well executed song.

    Thank you for listening!
I am really proud of the outro, glad you liked it too !
Indeed, everything is in the Execution 😅

This is awesome iPad music. I don't want to rub anyone the wrong way but I think music like this can really bring iPad as a serious platform to the masses.

Thank you for listening and for the kind words. I don't know for you, but sometimes in the middle of producing tracks, I remind myself that I am working on a thin piece of glass, and this put a smile on my face. In the best cases, I then listened to the result track and have a hard time believing that I did those myself. Incredible time to produce music: A million dollar studio in small device

Your songwriting and production is really coming into its own as a very unique creative voice.
I suspect having Richard to bounce ideas off of and gain support for anything you’re not sure of is helpful.

Thank you @McD, your comments are always appreciated !
I feel like a lucky bastard to be part of the small ABF creation community. I had the chance the collaborate with so many great creators in so many genres and styles (this include you of course). I cherish every single of those creative interactions cause they helped me and still help me to grow and hopefully to get better time after time. We're living dark digital times and people tend to turn in on themselves. More than ever, we need to gather together, even in creation.

Haven't forgotten our idea of a Staffpad orchestral "Cadavre Exquis". I'll send you something soon !

When you send it please explain the “rules” of this collaboration or declare the absence of rules.
I looked into the classic “Exquisite Corpse” scheme and it seemed better suited to prose:

Exquisite corpse (from the original French term cadavre exquis, literally exquisite cadaver) is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule (e.g., "The adjective noun adverb verb the adjective noun." as in "The green duck sweetly sang the dreadful dirge.")[citation needed] or by being allowed to see only the end of what the previous person contributed.

I’m curious to see how you imagine something similar for a notated musical composition:

    • add 4 bars
    • add an additional section of indeterminate length
    • dovetail extra bars with what comes before

I probably own every Staffpad Library you own by now… I keep adding. I’m might be missing a few SpitFire libs. Of course, we could stick with Muse Sounds so anyone with StaffPad can play too.

It is an abuse of language to describe what I have in mind as "cadavre exquis".
    I'll PM you!

  • Ya man! 🙌👏. Great track!. Specially love the chorus. Definitely some QOTSA vibes here but it takes me right back to Elliott Smith, which as you know is a diamond compliment.

So if you're a guitar lover,

It's impressive to hear 20 guitars at once! And all different.

Thanks Tahiche! Elliott Smith ? Wow couldn't spot the influence on this one, but I definitely trust your ears ! Yeep, it is indeed one of the greatest compliment!

Thank you for listening! 20 guitars 😅? I must be a great guitar Illusionist!
I wouldn't have the patience to track that many !
2 rhythm guitars all along + 2 slide guitars played one octave apart (then playing the huge tremolo at the end also one octave apart) + one little extra clean guitar overdub in the outro. That's already a bit too much, no?

There's always room for one more guitar! :D But seriously the guitars sound amazing, as does everything else. Glad you shared this JF and look forward to hearing the album.

Thank you Tony. I am always amazed how consistent you are with checking old threads from the creation section!

  • Consistent or obsessive? 🤨 I do try and listen to everything and usually (this is my ex programmer self kicking in) in descending date created order.
Life in general and me trying to create some tunes means I’m typically a few weeks late but even that has its advantages I think…
    keep them coming !
