yes, mirack has the beautiful dexter by valley, for example.
Whut? Holy shit. Why have I never noticed this one. 👍🏼😂
I made a matrix based 6-op FM patch if anyone is interested. I never use it myself. 😂

Nice patch, I love Sytrus!
I'm gonna check that Phasemaker thread for inspiration tnx!
Getting my popcorn ready just in case
I suspect that nobody will even be interested in participating in such a challenge.
Wow. This has got to be the ultimate FM synth. Makes Akemie's Castle look like a pile of used teabags!
On the other end of the spectrum are the various ports of MI Plaits (and Rings) into ios. Plaits (and Rings) has an FM mode that sounds great, but far less flexible than Dexter.
Tera Pro and Nambu for FM on iOS. I can’t stand Dixie’s ui
But for fm I use MOSTLY Waldorf iridium…as the kernel mode is off the rocker… I don’t think anything can out fm it.
I've got to say I've been tempted with the Korg FM synth (forgot it's name) now that it is in rack format. I knowing no Iridium, but quite decent in the FM stake.
Interesting!
How is a 6-OP FM kernel in the Iridium different from a DX7?
about $2000.00
Anything can be used as an operator…sample, wavetable….on and on
I would think this would be quite good. I haven’t had hands on the racks, but I have the keyboards…not a fan of the build quality so much.
Nambu sounds great, though I don’t grok it.
Dixie sounds wonderful, but the presets are organized like a grab bag at a book store.
King of Fm sounds very good, and the presets make the most sense.
I understand quantum mechanics more than I do FM. And that ain’t saying much.
For the record - King of Fm isn't an FM synth. 😉
Rompler?
Shoot I knew you'd ask that. I'm not sure how to answer. I think the term is PCM synth.
It's not exactly a rompler but a sample based synthesizer. I'm not gonna try to do better than that because I know I'll just end up saying something stupid. Y'all need someone smarter than me to answer that one.
All I can really say is there's not a lick of FM synthesis going on. 😉
cool, thank's!
i very much enjoy playing with it.
and very "modern"
Quantum mechanics and FM are both all about the interacting vibrations, man.
and you need an observer otherwise, the phenomenon doesn’t exist
.. and you can't predict what's gonna be the final result 😁
so to be sure we have an fm synth, we need an observer for each operator?
Dixie has recreations of the imprecise FM calculations of old DX synths, which FM4 also has. So even though the interface is a bit clunky its my top choice.
(FWIW I mapped Dixie's params into Drambo to make direct fm exploration more fun and immediate)
Where's Terrence Howard when you need him for musical and physics insight?
Does this imply that we could have FM computers one day?
Transistor Computer -> 1 or 0 a bit
Quantum Computer -> multiple states at once - Qubits
FM Computer -> state of confusion - stu-bits
Wake me up when there's an Infinite Probability Drive synth.
All the knobs go up to 42
+1. After I discovered the layering function a la Yamaha TX816 rack, I'm an even stronger fan of KQ Dixie. And preset management works quite well now for me.
Or Caelum do a Bistromatic powered one for next year’s joke day…
