Haha list every app you don’t use so we can shame you publicly!!

Yes, love it! My names Fruitbat1919 and it’s been two days and fifteen minutes since I last used Shoom :(

Logic Pro. I want to use it and pay too much to let it sit. But its really got everything you need to finish songs, and mix/master.

The apps i use the least are the sugarbytes ones. They are awesome but i just get annoyed for some reason my them.

I’m currently ignoring most of my apps and have limited my sandbox to about 15 apps. I made a post about this but it was a flop 🤣🤣 no one cared about my experiment 🤣🤷🏼‍♂️

But for now I’m trying to stick to a few apps i know real well and a few i don’t so i can learn them better. Then I’ll pull the switch a roo on them after i complete some full tracks.

I remember threads where people here have talked before about slimming down their app choice to improve their usage. I listened back then. I mostly agreed. I then proceeded to buy lots of apps and completely forget about not using maybe a few hundred apps every week and still not having much of a clue what I’m doing o:)

Haha yes i am still buying apps. I mean they aren’t that expensive and they are fun! I just try my best to stick to a few then i something is going well maybe I’ll drop in a newbie! I really just want to finish songs tho!

i no longer worry about finishing songs as ive never finished one to a degree I would be happy with it commited to vinyl lol. i just call all my tracks demos now and be done with it....kinda freeing!

  • Absolutely countless apps bought and paid for that i only opened once or twice, but the worst offence i think is my Logic year subscription that i managed to use once.

  • As much as I love it, Koala.
It the most beautiful gem of a tool, covered in dust right now because I gave myself too many samples to choose from and get less anxiety making my own sounds in synths and drum machines.

    Second to that, AUM.
Zero desire outside of being a nice blank slate for learning Prism, until that can work easily in Drambo (if i'm missing something there lemme know please!)

I really dislike subscriptions, but I must admit I really gel with Logic on iPad. I’ve only had it a couple of months and use it most days.

Yep I’ve pretty much ignored Koala for the most part, not sure why. I suppose we have to make choices of just which apps get air time lol

  • I was under using Ableton note but i do use it on my phone a lot. Its free so i figured i might as well use it since i didn’t pay for it 🤣

Yeah, subscriptions are the worst. i got logic thinking it would tide me over until Loopy got midi loops, but instead I just started using audio loops 😂

Plenty of other unused things. These days I'm "limiting" myself to this list. And trying not to touch the other 6 tabs 😅

Just looked up xinematix and Its 99 cents, how much are all the iaps??

  • Drambo - I don’t use it nearly as much as I should, or even want to. It truly is an amazing app, that covers so much ground, I can totally see how people love it, and why it’s so popular. I think for me I need to bring it into my workflow a bit more even if just using the midi fx, or audio fx, in AUM.

GR - 16 - this should be right up my alley but never took the time to learn it properly. Need to do that.

    And Maybe…

Animoog Z - I love the app, I sometimes use it in standalone for a fun sound design playground, but don’t always use the AU in my jam/writing sessions.

  • It’s Strokes and similarly BAM for me.

It took me a couple of months of playing around to feel comfortable with Drambo and now it’s my main DAW on iPad.

Strokes looks very powerful but I think I can get all the juice I need and more from Drambo so I can’t really justify taking the time to be at the same level as I am with Drambo.

I love all Imaginando apps and have all of them. BAM is really cool and easy to use but I haven’t spent much time with it.

I do buy apps that I personally think are good apps to support developers, even though I may never use them.

Haha, nothing wrong with that. Logic Pro is awesome don't get me wrong, but ever since I "dusted off" Grand Finale 2 (to use in Cubasis 3), I find I'm using that more than Logic Pro. I may cancel my Logic sub and just do everything on my iPhone. Just a lot easier that way for me personally. Your mileage may vary and all the other catchphrases and tropes, lol.

The 3 first out of relative complexity. The others because some didn't click right yet. (on GR-16 as with PureAcid, I guess its a case of stringing patterns into songs, but have a plan B for that)

    What’s plan B?

I have been considering using xequence, LK, Drambo or Audio Evolution Mobile to send program changes to GR-16/PureAcid

  • Pretty much all of them. 🤣

  • For me it is the "DAW" apps that are too many to list. I just keep going back to AUM even though I hate that it has no timeline.

Second to that, Moog Model 15. I like the sound very much but dislike the UI. It's beautiful but I just don't like the scrolling. I get claustrophobia from Model 15.

Third is Blocs Wave. I thought I would use it to create loops to chop in Koala, but I haven't done that. I don't think the sonic quality of the included loops is that good. But I do use it every day as a metronome practice tool for my drumming, so it gets used but not in the way intended.

All the talk here about Drambo always gets me interested but I'm afraid it will end up on this list in the future.

  • Yeah i find i use my iPhone a lot and really want to use apps that can handle both.

I actually used logic for the mastering once on your recommendation and it was pretty good, but grand finale 2 is also my go to.

  • I'd say GarageBand for me. It'd be a pretty obvious solution to a lot of things, but I just keep buying and using 3rd party apps instead.

Beyond that, probably Drambo. I bought Drambo and AUM on the same day when I was getting into iOS music making, and AUM immediately fit my workflow...and I just kind of never looked back. I do really like Drambo, but considering what it's capable of I'm definitely under-utilizing it.

  • Regrets….. I’ve had a few….
But then again… too many to mention

    Spot on.

  • Hopefully not a Pianoteq ( Likely the Borsendorfer )

because of buying a piano just for the Borsendorfer

    but doubt.

Even the hassle of multi ipads etc.

Turn an ipad on just so the other works.

    The Borsendorfer etc.

    Is on the output,

    So just turn ipad on.

The ipad thats always set to 128. Even if other ipads are slacking.

    Its good for the posture.

Has anyone who were buying pianoteqs. Bought the latest Borsendorfer ?

  • Some awesome apps that I bought and really wanted to like, but just didn't take to for some reason: Loopy Pro, Beatmaker 3 (liked 2, but never got into 3), Logic Pro for iPadOS, KQ Dixie, Strokes, Neon midi sequencer. Actually, a lot of midi sequencers. Octachron also has been barely used. Even though I don't really like the piano roll/clip launcher in Drambo; that's what I use the most for sequencing. I haven't given up on Loopy yet. I loved making ambient loops on the old version. I think I was just overwhelmed by it and wasn't super into a sample-based sound, but actually the combination of all the granular apps I own, Koala and Gauss have all gotten me more interested in working with samples again.

For me, the trick to get into Drambo was to avoid the rack building aspects at the beginning because it was so overwhelming. I just used my existing AuV3 synths and FX to become acquainted with the track structures and audio/MIDI routings first. I started by making a simple song using only 4 tracks and the concepts clicked pretty quickly.

I still don't build my own instruments or FX, but I am now using Drambo to live sequence, process and mix my hardware modular and it has been absolutely fantastic for this purpose. It's not necessary to know or use every feature at the beginning.

Just put aside an hour and dive in. You'll be glad you did.

Thanks for this thought process! It's given me a permission of sorts. I definitely would let the overwhelming possibilities get in my head whenever I load drambo up, but this is a great way to just get going before expanding.

    Cheers!
