Bone-conduction headphones
I would like to buy the Shokz open run pro because I want to listen to music without isolating myself from the rest of the world when practicing sport. How does the sound compare to traditional headphones ? Any experience here?

It is not Shokz but here is a review of bone conduction phones from man I trust. The most important flaw is a less bass. Check a "Sound quality" chapter at 3:27

These are not bone conduction, but they leave the earcanal free and they sound way better than the (admittedly cheap) bone conducting headphones I've had before. More bass and I enjoy listening on them:

Funnily enough I tried a pair of these at a store just the other day! I've never tested any other bone conducting headphones but I was actually impressed by what I heard. The sound was reasonably full and loud enough. Not full headphone quality, the low end wasn't as big as you'd get with other buds. For spoken word content I'd say they would be fine. Actually they'd be fine for any listening... but your milage might vary.
After a lifetime of headphones cutting me off from the world it was eye-opening to be able to hear the audio content AND the environment yet they remained uncannily separate.
I tried turning them up to full volume and could feel them tickling my upper jaw ... not sure about that!
Next time I need a pair of headphones for general listening these will be on my list.
I have a pair. They sound better than cheap ear buds to me. A bit dull in some areas but I bought them to wear whilst working for safety reasons (not hearing surroundings whilst working alone could kill me).
The definition is clear though.
When i make music on ios i use some Shure in ears which are far superior and it’s unfair to compare them.
The Shokz open run pro sound greatly exceeded my expectations and the battery life is great, i get a days work out of them if not cranked up loud.
It works for hands free phone calls too.
When I occasionally forget to take them to work, I am a little sad for a moment.
If i lost them, I’d buy another pair. As far as I am aware, they are the best you’ll get at that price.
They get me good value from my phones data plan and my YT subscription.
Sound quality aside, they are a very practical, usable bit of kit, quite a positive life changer for me.
So these don’t go into your ears at all. Learned something new. Not suitable for music making, but great for sports it seems, although the price seems a bit steep
Can't speak to that brand, I have a decent pair that I use for walks outside. (Don't recall the brand but was about $50 at Best Buy a couple years ago.) Sound quality is ok though bass deficient.

By coincidence, I have a pair of bone conducting headphones coming today. They're not Shokz, and are about half the price. Reviews were favorable compared to the Shokz so I compromised. I'll only be using them for phone calls and listening to audio books, so I figure I can manage with less bass response.
I'll report back in a few days after I've had a chance to use them.
Somebody in the Amazon comments wrote, it depends on ear size, and if you have big ears, there's more leakage. Don't know if that's true.
I just did a quick test, and with a loud rock song at full volume, my wife did hear it from 2m distance. At half volume she didn't. In public transport, I tend to listen maybe at 75 per cent and so far wasn't under the impression, that others felt disturbed. My ears are medium, I guess (lobe to upper arc roundabout 7 cm). Another thing I like about them is, that I hardly feel, that I'm wearing them and can use them comfortably lying on my back.
Thanks. I got rid of the Koss Porta precisely because the sound from them could be heard far and wide. And as somebody smart said "Don't do to others what you don't want them to do to you". Especially in crowded public transport

I wonder if the bass response from bone conduction is better for those of us with more empty cranial space for it to resonate in? In my case I'm more concerned about the potential for massive added reverb. 😐
I’ve got STATIK cheaper ones but I’m gonna get the SHOKZ I think. Headphones aren’t good for your ears and these definitely lessen the damage , no questions .
They just arrived and results are good for what I intend them for so far. Bass is a bit weak but they're not thin and tinny like crappy speakers or something. I'm real sensitive to thin, shitty sound. Even the best iPhone speakers drive me nuts. These don't do that. The sound is pleasant and not at all thin sounding. Great for music? No. Fine for distracted casual music listening and excellent for spoken word.
I have a hard time believing the Shokz are drastically better. But maybe.
They're totally comfortable once situated. I could keep them in all day and not be bothered. Not having to struggle to discern outside sounds and constantly needing to pop the earbuds out when someone tries to talk to me (hate it when they do that!) is going to be amazing.
The true test will be whether or not my wife can hear any leakage when I have them on, and whether or not I can converse comfortably without having to remove them.
I really wish I had these when I was driving a truck and also needing to hear others, while needing to instantly answer telephone calls all day.

I did go into a store back then (I think it was a Sharper Image) and tried them out to see how they sounded. I was not impressed.
Makes me want to buy waterproof ones.
Beware that the waves do not pass under water…I wonder if it can really work when swimming
But they pass through the... bones, ah. I've never tried but heard somewhat good things about them
If it's bone conduction through direct contact, I don't see why they would need to pass through water.
I mean, there is no integrated memory in these headphones (at least for the Shokz) so you will need to have your mobile and connect via bluetooth…and if you are swimming, I am not sure that the headphones will stay connected

There are some that have inbuilt storage, that are advertised as working while swimming. Haven't tried them and suspect it's hard to navigate to the music you wanna listen to, with a couple of buttons and no display, but they exist.

i tried some sunglasses, that had a bone conducting audio setup. they where actually really crisp and clear sounding. kinda crazy

The ones I just got are fine for in the house, but too quiet for being out and about if there's anything but mild background noise. They'll work out for the main purpose (listening to audiobooks at home), but not a whole bunch else.
