Frankly, I’m just in awe of people who can do actual proper orchestration. Sounds like the score to an undiscovered Hitchcock. The ‘tick tocky’ sequence though reminded me of John William’s theme to Irwin Allen’s Time Tunnel:

(Yes. That John Williams, credited here as ‘Johnny Williams’. Coz younger, hipper, I guess.)

That's a fun find. That old "tv sound" music would be fun to emulate with the right samples. Come to think of it, there should be a sample library of tinny tv orchestra type stuff. It would sound great for some of @McD's stuff.

What a great idea… I’m going to put my StaffPad work through some FX apps in AUM and aim for “Tinny TV Orchestra”. Hold my beer.

Give me my beer back! It’s alive:

  • A really great collaboration.
I’ve always had a special fondness for classical symphony music. Watching Boston Pops on PBS with my Dad as a kid. The Barber of Seville and other classics in Saturday morning cartoons. Playing percussion in the Symphony Orchestra in High School. Going to the Meyerson Hall to see the Dallas Symphony Orchestra when my son was learning to play violin. So many great memories.
Thank you for bringing them back to the front of my mind.
Great work , both of you. Looking forward to the next collaboration.

Well done, sounded real intriguing here and also there. I can't read music so it's not for me but it surely got me wanting to.

Thank you for listening, glad it kept you entertained.

This collaboration is amazing. An education and an inspiration. The detail is jaw-dropping. I have StaffPad and get frustrated with some of its quirks but this piece is a glorious reminder of what it is capable of. I shall sharpen my pencil (figuratively) and give it another go. Thank you both.

I could certainly imagine myself, sitting at a terrace by the cost the Noirmoutier island, drinking a fresh glass of Muscadet while composing on Staffpad. That sounds like a great time to have!

This is outstanding! Congratulations to both of you. So much action, variety and surprises. This could be a John Williams composition for a great action, suspense movie. I have to listen again!

    Exquisite Corpse is appropriate.

Glad you enjoyed the piece. It is quite long, but we tried to keep it moving and bring surprises !

I usually tend towards 3 - 4 minutes. No particular reason other than it seems to be what most are doing. About a year ago I did a collaboration with @McD using several of his StaffPad Sketches. He provided all of the music and I just arranged them into a larger composition. I didn’t add anything of my own other than a few common production tricks. The end result is 11 minutes, but I never get tired listening to it.

Wow that's a great piece! So you pieced everything together? That must have been lots of fun!

  • @McD provided me with a huge assortment of his StaffPad Sketches. I've done a few collaborations, but never anything like this before. An entirely new experience for me with no previous model to work from. I just selected pieces and tried them with others. Some overlapping, some overlaying each other. It must have been fun because the time just flew by. A short time later I put together Sketchbook II... and I still have enough left in the folder for Sketchbook III.

I can imagine this being introduced at the BBC Proms… ‘Here is the latest piece by two up and coming composers …’
It would be great with a full orchestra 🙏

Tony! your comment felt under my radar for months ! Sorry for the late reply! Indeed how nice it would be to hear that piece played by a full orchestra.
