I've done very light searching, but hadn't settled on one brand or another... Been looking for Bluetooth (simply because I'm trying to go all wireless. No real permanent setup space, so less wires, less setup time, less likely to lose motivation)
Also, swam sale wasn't (isn't... Wont be... Lol) kind to my wallet, so hardware is major backseat
Or was
Got dang it. Now I have a new tab to check whenever the green twinge of Me Want Now kicks in
But srsly thanks for the rec. Helps narrow down this weirdly niche obsession!
@sigma79 👍
Don’t forget that the SWAM instruments have a built in playing surface that allows easy access to all of the main controls and as far as I know does MPE…
Wow! Thanks for posting !
I hadn’t really messed with the built in keyboard until now!
Crazy nice setup for quick play. I threw Growl onto the Y axis since vibrato is right next to expression on screen, and while I’m used to left hand pointer finger for expression and middle for vibrato (hardware faders. Cannot recommend enough for physical control!), the minor concentration needed can be overcome with a little practice
I turned off pitchbend on X since using light velocity (low placement on key) allows for portamento slides, and… hella intuitive!! Got some moody ass tones akin to what Velocity Keyboard and random hardware tests have provided… with the added growl option thrown in
Nice recently for those of us that don’t rtfm quite enough on the daily xD
Id use woodtroller as you dont have to shift octaves. Woodtroller obviously provides cc77 for vibrato and then map controls to a controller.
When I first bought trumpets 3 years ago. I used swam screen but added kb1 ( you could use surface controller ) so the spacing of parameters wernt as far.
Its ok as the shift dosent activate until next key. So wont change key. If you pressing a key, then shift.
My first IOS experience with SWAM was with the SWAM Violin IAP in the Roli Noise app.
I purchased it eagerly to hear a modeled Violin… but I did not read the fine print where you can’t
use it when Roli Noise is loaded as an AUv3 instance. Arg. Standalone only and I don’t own a Roli keyboard so I could use the Noise internal Keyboard but not record the results. This was before I learned about the screen recording trick and later the conversion of the video audio into a Koala PAD.
But that put me off SWAM products for a few years. I still don’t use the SWAM products I have purchased very much. I actually prefer the GeoShred Naada world instruments to be honest.
For real string sounding experiences, I prefer the libraries available in StaffPad like the Tina Guo Cello
library. She makes that instrument cry.
Woodtroller you control with one hand and a hardware side controller.
Which is also good because I bought a piano action keyboard. Which is only good for piano and e piano. Probably harpsichord.
To make it so I may not have to upgrade ipad ( im using 3 ipad 9 )
Id move the piano and faster action needed instruments ( perhaps just a steel drum ) to another ipad.
So the ipad piano were originally on. Dosent need to be 128 buffer now.
This should allow a small band of swams to be loaded in tracks ( not just record and then load another au )
The Naadas throw a spanner in the works but not sure how many world instruments would make it in a regular line up and dont see how geoshred lets you switch instruments as quick as pressing host tracks.
If this is the case.
Non geoshred does come at a cost of cpu.
Even a pro ipad might only double instruments. Which is a lot but would be ok for now with an instrument from each swam category at about 512 buffer and might be ok ( with ipad 9 )
Check this
Playing without rythum/ the trumpet vid but maybe also the controller ( in other vid )
Is way easier than trying to play a rythum on the keyboard.
But also trying to use light touch.
So keys sound like a filter.
If anyone got a keyboard.
Would like to hear you play what im trying to play
but im a noob.
Didnt even make the chord.
It will be cool
To switch instruments but mute a drum if using.
On first notes of next instrument.
It's more usable than you're supposing. Naada has all four bowed orchestral strings, flutes, oboes, clarinets. And I contend that the bass veena (can't recall what its name is in NAADA) makes a superb surf guitar.
Thanks.
Would need to get used to GS surface as a controller.
How do you switch instruments fast in GS.
Do you create banks and there be arrows to navigate ?
Cheaper at £179 and more different instruments.
How do you switch instruments ?
Or is it better to use numerous aus ?
Can you map all parameters you might map from swam version. To a controller.
Obviously.
Does the pro version let you adjust/remove fx ?
You cant check any of this with the play version.
hmm you could just point woodtroller at multi geoshred AU's ?
Whats the cpu of a geoshred vs a swam ?
Can you mapnall same parameters in vid but from a gs ?
Obviously you can remove fx from an instrument ?
Theres isnt many swams in gs anyway ?
I’ll try and answer some of your questions @sigma79 …
There are 11 SWAM instruments available in GS.
There are 22 Naada instruments available in GS.
You can add and remove FX from existing instrument presets and create entirely new presets.
You can play SWAM and Naada either with the GS control surface or other apps or external controllers.
You can switch instruments in GS just by pressing a left / right arrow on the GS screen.
Instruments can be placed in user definable Set Lists (banks) so if you have a song that needs instruments A,B and C you can place them together and quickly move between them.
All of the parameters in both SWAM and Naada are available for automation.
You can have multiple instances of GS loaded each with its own instrument and all can be played at the same time. DSP is pretty low for me (IPad Pro)
There are loads of videos explaining various aspects of GS here https://www.youtube.com/@GeoShred
Cheers Tone.
Will buy some gs ( after swams )
Just made a vid ( without sleep lol )
Testing violin.
