Thanks for the reply. I haven’t had time for a session with it yet but will do a little table top setup in a few days with it. Apart from having a great travelling setup, I really like the idea of being able to have temp setups in different rooms of the house and get out of the studio.
I’ve been rocking that one for years. Love it.
Took me forever to find it! But it’s an old classic!
jBL and beats for some reason run the world when you search online. Thankfully i found the subreddit with good info…
Advertising is such a hoax!
Absolutely and you’ll find some sweet spots with the eq and definitely enjoy it!
Sounds awesome just around the house and outside streaming
Yes, I'm loving the sound for recreational music playback (that sounds so sterile!). In fact I'm selling my JBL Extreme 2, which I really liked, as this can now be my fun listening box as well as a portable production monitor. Plus it'll pay for it and give me a little extra to boot. Sweet! Thanks so much for the original post, really glad this came to my attention.
I just got one of these a few days back and it sounds great! Yea it lacks the stereo separation of minirigs which I also own, but makes up for it with the price, custom eq settings, far superior app, and generally far more convenient setup and usage
One question (which I can answer myself when I get around to using the aux input), do the eq settings hold in aux mode and without being connected to the app?
Im pretty sure the app has to be open for the eq to be active.
Because I’ve noticed I’ll have the speaker playing but the app says not connected, until i press on it in the app.
Kinda annoying but, i just put the app on my iPad and hit it from there
Hmm but will the eq still be active in aux mode with the app running alongside i.e. connected with both Bluetooth and aux with playback through the aux input.
I just tried it and appear to have answered my question .. afaict the eq settings do not apply to aux playback even with the app running and connected via bluetooth.
That sucks but again, I wouldn’t mind (preferable actually) as long as the flat mode is actually mostly flat (for production purposes). Room acoustics aside, how flat is the response without EQ?
Does it come with a chart? Doubt it since it’s a consumer product. For those who’ve had this a while, what’s your best uneducated guesstimation on the flatness of this product? 😂
Also, how low is the frequency response?
There is a frequency response graph I found online here https://www.rtings.com/speaker/0-8/graph/4553/frequency-response-graph/anker-soundcore-motion-plus/7060
The review on this website also includes the graph along with some more useful graphs.
I tried to compensate by applying values opposite to those shown in the graph but more subtle, to get a more neutral response. It was a very quick tweak so by no means perfect. But I preferred it to Oluv's EQ settings recommended on the speaker rating website (not the one linked above).
I'm posting from my phone and the eq setting is on the iPad so I'll be happy to share it once I tweak it a bit more.
As for the eq settings not applying to the aux input, I guess one could just apply an eq in their daw or audio interface control panel if needed.
Ahh i didn’t know that! I guess i never tried it with aux since i just got it. Thought it did but.. weed 😂
I’ll drop eq on the master out and work from there, but it sounds great as is… I’ll most likely never attempt to to master a song from it but its always alway desired to have it flat
Appreciate the conversation and info here. Interesting about the EQ and AUX. I was under the impression that once the eq was set on the app it was stored in the speaker (I was sure I read this in a review or comment somewhere). Regardless it seems it doesn't affect the AUX. As @reasOne points to, you would never use this to master a track with but if it has a flat/transparent enough nature then it's perfect for portable composing and some early stage mixing etc I reckon.
Can you pair two of them for a stereo setup? Boom box peephole stereo is a major turn off personally.
Just to add .. I'm not 100% sure if it doesn't apply to the aux in, but there did seem to be a noticeable difference in sound through bluetooth and aux in, but again weed 😂 .. and I also tried both connections on the same device so manually had to adjust volume etc plus it would pop every time I plugged the 1/8" cable in so didn't get too much into it.
I'll try again later today with two devices setup side-by-side.
Yes you can indeed over Bluetooth. However, if you're hoping to play an instrument that way, it's gonna be too laggy. Gotta stick to the AUX for that. I suppose you could probably use a splitter if you wanted stereo AUX, but I've never tried it.
Excellent! Yes aux is the way to go if timing is crucial especially in an ensemble. A drummer once showed me how to play ahead of the beat, quite helpful if the latency is steady. I enjoy stretching time through phase too.
I didn't get around to testing the aux and bluetooth connections side-by-side, but tried with the Bluetooth connection on two devices. What I noticed was the eq setting carried over though the 2nd device was connected for the first time, meaning it does save on the speaker. And iirc it sounded the same with or without the app so it doesn't need to be running for it to apply.
And unless the eq only works for bluetooth connections, I'm a bit surprised that it sounded so different with the aux in last time I checked. Will update here when I get around to checking it again.
Just got one of these and I notice there’s a very quiet hiss when I plug a cable into the aux. it’s not there when used in Bluetooth mode. Anyone else notice this?
Hey let’s just get this 8$ shitbox speaker for mixing.
This dude swears by em! So we are good with our motion +!
I've used one of these for a few years for an ongoing gig in a small dance studio. The sound is pretty awesome for such a small speaker, but the bass is always lacking (not in terms of volume but in terms of "feel"). And yes you have to plug in via Aux due to Bluetooth latency.
I've since replaced it for gig use with a larger unit, but keep it around to use when travelling.
Thank you for sharing the graph and that website @maschinelf
Ur welcome @Blipsford_Baubie
Also I got around to checking and the eq does work with the aux in. I'm pretty sure the saved setting also applies without the app running. While this is mostly a good thing, it also probably means there is some conversion happening after the aux in stage. Would've been neat to be able to bypass that altogether and apply a more precise eq in your daw etc but these were always meant to be consumer speakers and sound great as is so not complaining.
