I’m just wondering why the team went through all that trouble to make it so hyper responsive it seems intentional that they can shrink it that small, or perhaps it’s just laying the foundation for the new GarageBand where they will strip out all the features that are just not accessible on a screen that small

Also, the Final Cut Pro iPad version is not nearly as responsive

It's for VR use. You have to try that thing to see and get the vision.

I had to convince 3 of my friends to try it out, so I wasn't being biased. They came up with the same conclusion I did.

It's really cool, but not yet. Apps are not there yet.

It may not be there yet, it's also not here yet. Still no signs of it becoming available here in this part of Europe.

It took us 5 months from US release to get here in Canada. I think Apple is targeting their big money makers first, before expanding to other countries.

When I first used Logic, it was on a 9" black and white, 512x384 pixel screen.

When we now talking nostalgia, have you ever been using the ”DAW” Bars & Pipes on Commodore Amiga?

Everything was so easy and comfortable back in the days… 😎😎

I have but I preferred Music-X for midi, especially the handy way to record & trigger pre-recorded midi-sequences (In practice triggering a midi-sequence as a sample).

But my heart has always been (and still remains) closely tied to Trackers.
Even today I jump between Renoise / SunVox (and plenty of other trackers) & LogicPro for Mac...

No, my first sequencer was a Yamaha QX-21. 2 digit LED and 2 tracks of MIDI :-)

I went from that to Opcode EZ-Vision, quickly upgraded to Vision on a Mac. I spent all my hard earned savings on music tech as a youngster... And I've been on the Mac ever since. I switched to Magic Notator Logic v1 when Opcode wouldn't control my R8 reel to reel via MIDI, Logic included the Fostex codes (and they're still there today in settings!) and I've been using Logic ever since.

I never really liked the Emagic UI aesthetic but the arrange window and info/non destructive parameter panel was genius and got me hooked immediately. I'm still using the heck out of the parameter panel and arrange window toady :-)

Honestly, if Logic came to iPhone, that’d be huge! Imagine having a full DAW in your pocket for real music production on the go. Hope Apple’s considering it

Clear difference, Cubasis isn’t a mobile copy of Cubase, it’s a lot more stripped down version.

Logic Pro for iPad is a real Logic, albeit some ”small" functionality lacks…
Otherwise, Apple would have called it Logicis Pro…

I don’t see the UI working at all on that size of a screen. I think they could extend Garageband just a bit and cover a lot of iPhone use cases in fine style (just supporting MIDI plugins would be huge)

@mjm1138 :Neither do I.. If I thought it did I would just get an iPad mini and work with it but I don’t for that very reason.

Of course Apple could have done a iPhone compatible version

I think they didn’t to persuade more iPad sales

Cubasis is crap imho and extremely awkward, especially on iPhone

I think for iPhone the only decent all in one is NS2, garage band is ok I guess but the stripped down alchemy is crap

I got Jim audios GR16 last night and it’s ok but very awkward on iPhone , it wouldn’t surprise me if his next app is iPad only

I don’t use iPad anymore as the only time I get to mess around with music is at night and when I’m on my back . So iPhone only it is

    Curious, but is this you?

Frankly I think if they released Logic Pro for iPhone it would actually help sell more iPads. And my uninformed guess is they have it running on iOS in the lab, but the UI is so unworkable that it doesn't meet their standards for release. And that's why we don't have LP for iPhone.

    Wtf?

I’m just some anon with a made up screen name like most on here, just that my screen name is less complex

Maybe I’ll change it to “rumplestiltskinonacid” or something

Are you trying to stalk me?

I don’t know anything of the subjects your suggestion is into

That answer was enough to convinced me who you are.

  • So to slightly turn the subject, does any have a DAW that they think works pretty well? I personally like and can get a lot done on the iPhone versions of AEM, n-Track Pro, and CB3. I go to sleep with dreams of Auria on iPhone though…

Sounds about right, and potentially they are continuing to tweak until such a time when it would be releasable

  • No way.. It’s no walk in the park on my 12.9… I’d try an iPad mini just for s—ts and giggles knowing that I’d still have my 12.9 to lean on but on iPhone ? Never gonna happen.

I think to make it work they'd basically end up with "Garageband but with a few more features" for the iPhone version, at least from a UI perspective. You're right, there's no way the iPad UI scales to a phone screen.

Or phones with 10-12 inch screens.

    Wait…

    Wait…

I honestly think it's the screen aspect ratio that is more problematic on the iPhones for the bigger apps.

On paper there's not that much difference in inches between a iPad mini and iPhone Pro Max but put them side by side and the iPad Mini is 'gigantic' in comparison. It's not always about the number of pixels but pixel density as well....

  • a lot of indications to me that Logic Pro for iPad grew out of the GB for iOS code base and not from Mac Logic Pro. next “GB” will probably be just the hiding of the features that are not workable on iPhone display

  • Rumour has it that Final Cut is getting an update on 13 November…
    Here’s hoping Logic gets one too… 🤞

It would be in keeping with their release cadence so far. I’d love to see MIDI improvements and UI improvements for the plugins, much more than I want to see any more AI features. Not really holding my breath though. TBH right now my most-launched iPad music app is Note, and I’m having fun with Live on desktop. If that trend continues I may let my Logic subscription lapse. A desktop DAW on a 27” monitor just feels so much more powerful than anything on iPad. iPad is much more immediate and fun, but that’s a place where groovebox apps feel right to me more than DAWs. And I think that applies even more on phones. Note feels great on an iPhone. GarageBand is clunkier. Per @zzrwood Logic on iPhone would probably feel like GB on iPhone just with more views to navigate to.

Last year Logic was updated on the 6th of November. I’d bet my cup of tea that Logic gets an update in the next couple weeks or so.
