According to the Japanese website, "it is equipped with a 12-in/4-out, 32-bit float compatible USB audio interface function"
Unfortunately, the editor software is only available for Windows and Mac. No iOS version.

Very interesting, the L-8 is class compliant so I expect this one to be as well.

Unfortunately, the editor software is only available for Windows and Mac. No iOS version.

Well, with how much hands-on control you get, scenes, and even customizable MIDI control it would seem that you won't need to access the editor most of the time.

  • Nice one!
It seems to have 4 sample trigger buttons that can also play recorded loops.

  • This looks great for live jam recordings, would save me messing about with iPad perhaps, maybe I’ll see if jam mates fancy going in on it…

  • I mean:
    • 2 XLR mic with phantom power
    • 4 stereo line level inputs
    • midi in and out
    • SD recording 32bit float
    • Mutes, Scenes, Sound/Sample pads
    • USBC or Battery powered
    • 4 discrete outs

    for $300

for a small hardware setup, a portable musician, podcasting, or recording jamming this is pretty perfect.

This looks like an interesting variation on the L8, I suspect on price it will be a level choice between the L6 and a used L8. No English manual yet so tricky to work out all the pros and cons. I’ve been eyeing up interface/recorders in general to make recording trivial and “with DAW” smoother.

plus, it's super cute with battery use. Technically its better than the L8 (24 Bit) in terms of bit rate if you want 32 float to avoid clipping ever.

  • This is exactly what I’ve just been looking for, that I can’t believe Tascam, who used to be the standard for, well, portastudios, doesn’t make.

Really looking forward to this one.

Yeah totally, this is about right for our setup in Cragg vale, and new price is pretty good… it would save me that opening messing about getting the ICA4+ up and running at the start of sessions; I’ve actually given up on using it in there for now tbh, just takes the fun out of it all…

  • ah, there was a thread already :)

    such a cool device!

  • in het Nederlands

  • The only thing I would miss from my current interface is the hi-z input. And this one says “eurorack compatible” but I don’t know if that refers to signal level or being DC-coupled for CV.

  • Damn it looks nice, I'd actually buy it if it had more outputs.

I guess you could use the aux outs as general outputs, so you have 4 channels

Couple of notes on this I've read about (over on the Elektron forum someone posted a Google Translate version of the Japanese manual):

    • The USB multitrack audio interface inputs and multitrack stems are pre-fader, so you can't use the levels/FX/EQ with them. This is super common with these sorts of combined mixer/interface things (and generally preferred, with the idea that once you're in software-land you have access to better EQs and effects and want to work with the untouched multitracks), but something to be aware of.
    • The audio interface has 4 output tracks that can get fed back into the 5/6 inputs respectively.
    • The "sound pad" feature might seem pointless but does give you four buttons that can be assigned as MIDI notes, at least.
    • The scene change buttons also emit program change messages (PC0, PC1, PC2)
    • I don't think anything else emits MIDI CCs, a little unfortunate if you were hoping to use this as an AUM controller
    • There's an optional separate USB-C power-only port on the side, which gets is prioritized for power when you're using the panel USB-C - might help if there's USB noise.

I have been considering getting a new audio interface to allow me to have more channels for hardware, but this is instantly replacing that as my next purchase. Figure I'll have my MicroFreak go into 1, an FX return from the iPad on 6, soft synths out from the iPad on 5, and then I still have space left over to add two more stereo synths on 3/4 if I get more hardware, and an additional mono synth or mic on 3. Can then use AUM just to mix the soft synths and FX returns. as needed (and can record stems in AUM for those if I desire). Neat hybrid workflow, I think.

Yes ! :) But I need at least 6 so the sound engineer has a better control over the live sound

I was wondering if it is possible to control volume, pan, fx, etc on both left and right channel for each input 3 and input 4 independently when MONO x2 is activated?

So am I! I’d guess we won’t find out some of these details until the L6 is released and the manual published…

I do wonder if the lack of a screen along with no iOS app will limit this unit versus the L8.

  • Looking closely at this because I really want a small mixer for my aira compacts…and with this being a class compliant usb audio interface I can hopefully multitrack them and apply effects right on my iPad……

I was just daydreaming the other day about a potential Aira compact mixer, like the MX-1 but in volca size… and this was announced like right when I was thinking about that …….almost seems too good to be true!?

Pardon my lack of comprehension. I'm trying to use this to mix/record my ipad AuV3s on different channels without using the loopy pro mixer, but as a USB interface I won't be able to use the L6's level/eq/etc on my ipad synths? Maybe I'm ignorantly looking at the wrong type of product for my use case?

Someone has translated the manual on one of the other forums:

Sorry, what was your use case again? 😉

Edit: Looking at the translated manual thanks to a friendly elektronaut, it seems like notes and Cc numbers are sent by the L6 indeed!
If I understand this correctly, the assignable parameters could be used to control values by CCs in iOS apps.

It looks like a no on that front...

Still, a very well thought out and featured device. I can't wait!

Out of curiosity, why do you want to avoid using Loopy Pro’s mixer for the eq (assuming that the AUv3 are being hosted by Loopy Pro)?

  • @Davyladd123
Thanks for the info. That’s a bit of a bummer. I think it should be possible to control the volume and FX of each channel via an external MIDI controller though.

I would also have loved to see a bluetooth input connection and a MIDI output sync would have made this a miraculous machine.

That being said, I still might purchase a unit in the future. I’m happy to see that companies are finally starting to design small portable mixers with multitrack recording abilities.

  • @Goldiblockz if the L-6 works as previous models, then engaging the USB buttons in channel 5 or 6 simply replaces the input for that channel with the corresponding USB output, and thus you can control level, EQ and effects for it. Of course you'd be limited to only 2 stereo channels, so unless I was very constrained in terms of CPU I'd just use EQ and effects on the iPad instead.

Just want to get hands off the screen, more direct control and don't care for having a mixer hotkey, no problem with the LP mixer itself. Settling on pre-fab midi controllers is not tantalizing in a world of custom work and such a discrepancy in what products are being released and their price ranges.

Would much rather have a single small hardware interface/mixer next to my ipad than an army of related single purpose things. Basically wanted a more consumer/price friendly TX-6. I think it will be faster to either make my own midi controller, or just make a digital channel strip in another instance of LP for my phone/another ipad, at this rate.

Thanks with the clarity help here, y'all <3

  • This device looks absolutely perfect for my use case:
I lead a band from electric piano and vocals and am also the sound techie, this thing is small enough to sit on top of my keyboard!

    Channel 1 - Lead vocals
    Channel 2 - Backing vocals
Channel 3 - Backing vocals (this is the only snag due to the lack of preamp, I would probably end up using an XLR-jack adapter cable)
    Channel 4 - Acoustic guitar
    Channel 5 - Electric piano
Channel 6 - Input from ipad, which could be piano pads, strings, synths etc. I think I'll also be able to run the midi clock from the ipad connection to USB.
Aux send 1 - Output to foldback monitor
    Master L & R - to speakers
