Best new synths 2023-2024?

I haven’t been following new releases very closely. Last apps I bought were Trooper and Xinematix. I’m a preset guy, so that’s what I always look for. What do you suggest?

  • Nerd Synth is very good and laden with presets.

  • I have not bought it yet but Discovery synth by Disco DSP seems like a presets heaven. It as 3500 presets. But you may want to watch Kavinski video before buying. The presets browser is poor.

If you're mainly into presets, King of Digital is the deal of the century. (But I'm real biased 😂)

@Schmotown - thanks for the shout 🤓 NERD SYNTH :)

Buzz Zone is one of my favorite new synths. It has a very intuitive interface, but is surprisingly deep. It comes with tons of presets, though the more you use it, the more you realize how easy it is to go from “preset surfer” to “sound designer”!

You’ll love some of the presets. Highly recommended!

    BuzzZone

(Each of the larger knobs have their own respective, full screen envelopes that you can draw however you like. This lends itself to massive, but super easy sound design potential.)

Discovery will be next in line once it gets an update or two. It’s got like 1.3 million presets, and a lot of them showcase how amazing the synth can sound, but it just came out a day or two ago, and the initial version is a little rough around the edges.

Not a synth per se but iOS finally have an awesome sounding AUV3 drum-app. OneShot from Klevgrand. There's a myriad of drumkits for it but no sequenser. I tried some of the Lumbeat apps as an engine and that worked fine, I didn't test it any deeper though.

Was going to mention Discovery as well. It's been attracting a lot of negative feedback but ymmv because mine sure did - I've been loving every minute with these sounds.

  • @Edward_Alexander someone wrote a review complaining Buzzone doesn’t work with Cubasis. Do you know if that’s true?
Thx @AnalogMatthew i did buy King of Digital and it is quite good. I will get NerdSynth as I’m a big Audiokit fan. Btw, can you tell me if D1 was ever fixed? I really liked that but it was very glitchy. Best to you, bro.

Not sure about Discovery @ecou @Schmotown @Loups. No organization of all those presets seems problematic. Thx @Pxlhg I’ll take a look

Just done a quick basic test of Buzzone with Cubasis. Seems to work fine to me.

Agreed; just tried it as well, and it works perfectly fine.

Yeah definitely .. this year basically just 2 synths scored for me enough to add them to my collection - apart from obviously Discovery it is Buzz Zone - absolutely excellent sounding synth and agree about suprisingly a lot of modulation capabilities considering relatively simple UI.. Very well designed UI, smart !

Thank you. King of Digital has replaced D1. All the D1 sound sources and most of the presets (500+) are in King of Digital. I'd recommend everyone use and buy that one instead.

  • For your seaboard here are some synths that work well with mpe:

    Woodsynth
    Tera Pro
    Mariana

@analog_matt i used the @DMTcymatics preset in Nerdsynth on my last track that synth is amazing, you keep knocking it out of the park would ya!?

  • Audiokit 'King of Digital' is one I like.

  • @Alfred thx, bro. I sold the Seaboard (too difficult for me) in favor of the Arturia MKll midi controller. Works better for the elderly, lol.

For me, until now, the choice is simple, here are the best three:

    • Quanta 2 (it will be released soon™)

    • WaveCloud
    •
VAPolyWest

Discovery synth is mixed bag, discoDSP made sloppy port for premium price. On the iOS world, for that price, it should be Discovery Pro version, no doubt about. But hey, we got a red color. ;)

Edit: I considered only 2024 releases.

  • BuzzZone sounds so good i purchased it for my computer. Discovery sounds lovely also. Both synths preset wise seem to be geared towards electronic music.

Yes! The @DMTcymatics presets are really, really good. I love how easy it is to roll the dice (die?) and change either or both of the two sounds without losing the character of the preset.

Have anybody mentioned Fabfilters TwinV3 yet?

Was it under 2023 it was released?
Whatever - such a wonderful sounding creature!!

We have soooo many freakin’ good synths today, from many many developer, not only the giant Korg & Moog, but also one-man-bands like Bram Bos and other.

When we talks Synths to iPad & iPhones - I have a few I constantly revisit, like Synthmaster v2 and Korg iM1 plus several Moogs, but, it would be a dream come thru if Reason Studios (Propellerheads) would update Thor Polyphonic Synth to support AUv3!

Thor was really ahead of it’s time when released on iPad back 2012 - such a nice GUI and graphics, and a marvelous sounded softSynth!

    Hallelujah!

  • ALL Yonac apps are 75+% OFF for 3 days, eg KingB organ down from £25 to £6, might suit your style. The other synths have a very rich sound.

  • What about Butter Synth?

  • Not sure when they came out, but Hilda and BA-1 sure have some fans.

I want it so bad, despite the minor growing pains, (already had 1 update to Disco’s credit) and not iPhone compatibility

I’m pretty sure BA-1 fits, if so that’s one of my choices.

I don’t always mind no built in sequencer, it depends. I mean yea if they are original, or easy to use or whatever, but I have so many sequencers, lol, sometimes I think maybe it’s best to save the app/cpu/panel/etc size, and use one of the many sequencers I own, ya know. They can sometimes be an afterthought or an appendage that gets in the way, ya know. I’m rambling, lol. I do like a sequencer, but only if it provides something I can’t achieve with all the midi apps I own. So if it doesn’t, so be it.

Hi sir! Do you still use your Kawai as a midi controller? Did you buy a Seeboard? Do you like it? Do you stick with these 2 as a midi controller?

BA-1 is my no one synth. Easy to use and lots of presets.

  • Hi @Montreal_Music nice to hear from you. I still have the Kawai Novus but sold the Seaboard as I just could not play it. A few weeks ago I bought an Arturia MK2 49 key midi controller to use, mostly with the SWAMs and it’s a great fit for me. Not as futuristic as the Seaboard but it does the job and I don’t need to learn any new keyboard skills. I also bought an 13” M2 Pro to replace my 2016 Pro.

A couple of hubs and a bunch of cables and my studio is complete. Thx for asking!

Thank you @analog_matt ! King of Digital is great! How did you get the presets from D1 in there, though? Is there any way to import banks from D1 or convert them or anything? I need my @Spidericemidas presets in there ...
