Chemicals | triphop live loops experiment and its remix by Klownshed
This one is my very first time creating a full track using only loops in Logic live loops mode. This offers a very powerful, practical and intuitive workflow. The whole track was put together in a single afternoon !
@klownshed seemed to enjoy it when I let him listen, and I felt lazy mixing this mess, so I asked him if he would be interested in doing it, and he kindly accepted.
Few days later, he didn't come with a mix but a full remix of the track which completely took me by surprise. At some point, it almost felt like a another track.
It is the first time someone seemed to like something I made enough to want to work on a remix. Extremely thankful for that, and very impressed with what John did!
@klownshed later mixed my original version, but I was not totally happy with it, so I decided to mix to my own taste. So I am going to share my original track here and hopefully soon enough, John will share his remix which I definitely recommend to listen to ! It is pretty insane what he made of it !
As usual iPad only and this time the only instrument I played was my voice! Hope some of you will enjoy

Here's the remix. I hope I did the song justice ;-) I loved the original version from the start...
Some great dark and edgy trip-hop vibes going on here, I can almost hear Tricky rapping on this one 👍
That was the first thing that I thought... Instant trip-hoppy Bristol Tricky vibes.
Never been to Bristol !
I actually prefer the @klownshed remix a lot despite the departure from the original - it has a lot of layers that add more depth, the vibe suits the trippy/drug allusion, and I like the intro and the ending more.
Chris! Really glad to have you chiming in, and happy to see that you remember us. John's version has indeed this very trippy side. I am not sure what was John's approach when he remixed it.
But in a way, what you're saying comforts me with my original idea. I was not trying to describe a trip in a junkie's mind. This has been done numerous times since the 60s, even before, if you think of all those incredible jazzmen in the 50s who played high on heroin.
I have been in the addiction rabbit hole at some point in my life, and from the safe and clean point where I am standing now, I don't see any poetry in that anymore...
My focus was to try to depict in a non judgemental way how destructive heavy addiction can be for the people around it. To be more specific, the lyrics are written from the point of view of a young boy witnessing the lethal overdose of his father. Pretty morbid isn't it? So it is neither an apologia or an attempt to romanticize drug usage nor any kind of partial judgement towards addicted people. Addiction is what it is now just like it has been for centuries, a deliberate choice (at least at the beginning) with its load of possible consequences/outcomes good and... less good...
Most of my songs, are usually short movies or scenes I have in mind and that I tried to materialize with sound and words. I probably fail to convey my intentions. But I'll keep trying hard !
Thanks again for commenting! And I hope you're doing well these days!
Heavy stuff, I like it. Both original and remix are great in their own way.
Same! Now if I could just get @JanKun ’s vocal UN-stuck from my head 😅 “Chemeeekuhuulllzzzz”
Yep! Sorry about that shitty french accent Edward!
Knowing how much this song means to Jankun and how much passion is invested in its making, I'm speechless. Bravo! 🤩
Regarding John's remix, the best I can explain is that the original feels more on the psychological side of the chemicals, while the remix is more on the industrial side of the chemicals.
What.. No! Don’t apologize; I love it!
I’ve always said one achieves the ultimate form of artistry when you can create something that will get stuck in someone’s head.
Thank you Chris, I appreciate the feedback. :-)
I’ve never been one to listen to lyrics very intently. I always hear the song as a whole, with the voice being another instrument in the arrangement, albeit the most important element.
Whilst I hear the words I kind of experience the song without them registering. It’s hard to describe. When I read the lyrics it’s very different.
So when I approached the remix I had a sound in my head and a pretty fully formed idea of how I thought it would sound if I made the song. And then JanKun (inadvertently lol) gave me the opportunity to do just that.
So for me the sounds are what give me the experience, not the words, but the vocals still have a huge influence with the tone and timbre dictating the emotion.
How could I forget my friends Jankun?! And John That was the only thing: the lyrics were a little less audible from the original version…..that was what i preferred on the original, was I could hear things more clearly vocally…. But yeah , i agree with you on that last point
Thank you
Thank you for listening and commenting Richard ! I can also hear Tricky's raspy voice !!!
Love both versions. Great stuff, thanks for sharing
Thank you btw ! It's a great track you have here. But the lyrics and vocals sound familiar. 😉
These are very much my vibe @JanKun you made this! Be hella proud wow!! @klownshed the remix is complete icing on the cake, and the way you played with the vocals!! Dayum!
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed!
Thank you for your indefectible presence Goran! Interesting analysis! Do you mean @klownshed is running an industrial plant while I am running a psychiatric ward?
☺️
I found a song on the internet and remixed it without permission. Don’t tell the original songwriter. I think I may have gotten away with it :-)
Hahahahhaahah
See, it even happens on this site!
NOW do you see what I’m talking about Mr Grant????
Thank you for listening and commenting!
Thanks a lot ! Much appreciated!
:-D Thanks for listening to both versions!
Thank you!!
More like passion vs. rhythmic. Madness is on both sides, in the criminal minds of those that produce content and those that consume.
Wow to both versions. Amazing transformation and vision on the part of @klownshed. Kemikals!
