Oh wow, a treat indeed! Let's see more colllabs from you two. Bloody brilliant!

Hi Gavin ! It is always a pleasure to have you commenting on the creations ! Glad you enjoyed ! Thank you for listening !

What a journey! You both have created a new genre I think. Interesting how you used Logic for a tempo map. Amazing work, as always; hope you do more.

Thank you for listening! A new genre? How should we call it 🤔
    More will come for sure!

EDITED: Beautiful results… still highlights the keyboard sound of the @LinearLineman but with a carefully rendered orchestral composition. Worth the effort finding that tempo track that holds everything together.

Congratulations on another stunning collaboration to join your “Metropolis” collaboration with @LinearLineman:

    “AndWhen She Smiles” Collab:

    “Monet’s Lunch” collab:

    “BlueSky or Hurricanes” collab:

Wow! Thank you @McD for promoting! I should hire you 😜.
We will have to keep working on our Cadavre Exquis series too. The second piece with your audio experiments is nice and I think we should keep it short the way you envisioned it. I have an idea for a third piece (serialism so probably not really harmonious...)

  • @MrStochastic i’ve been thinking about your comment re what genre is this track and similar @JanKun has created. So far I’ve come up with orchestrated improvisation. The difficulty is it defines the technique but not the kind of music. This track, Metropolis, and Monet’s Lunch are most similar to classical music, or neoclassical (whatever that means. It’s “serious” music but I hope it’s fun, too.

I guess it's something new, but is there anything new under the sun these days? Someone’s probably done it, but generally improvisation is played on top of composed arrangements. This is the other way around.

Yeah, that was a kind of off the cuff remark. Actually I don’t think either of you are classifiable.
I think together you’ve got a ’greater than the sum of your parts’ kind of thing going. (not meaning to diminish your individual parts 🤓)
Also, thanks to @McD for compiling all your tracks in one place! Great to hear them together.

wow, that's a great combo, impressive for sure, as the overall sound as well, work like this should surely find an audience out there, keep going guys

Thanks a lot for the kind words!

  • Just stumbled upon this. Beautiful. Well done @JanKun @LinearLineman

Félicitations à vous deux! Another landmark for your remarkable roster of achievements over multiple musical genres. This one particularly resonates with me as the workflow you have shared has been a missing piece and unlocks huge creative potential.

Your posts so often intrigue me both musically and technically as well as sending me searching to find the meaning of some of your classical and literary references. Always an enjoyable journey. I wonder if the ‘between a rock and a hard place’ idiom in the Scylla subtitle refers to the chore of manual bar alignment versus a subscription to Logic Pro? :)

Thanks for the nice words Andy! If you need some guidance or breakdown for the workflow I mentioned, please feel free to ask in DM

As for what's behind the greek mythology reference, this will have to wait for a nice plate of Oléron fresh oysters with a few glasses of Muscadet while listening to Bill Evans, facing the Atlantic Ocean 😉

This is so good. And no one will hear it but a handful of strange people on this tiny Internet backwater. We are privileged to be here for it, my friends.

Yeah, I'm late to the listening party on this collaboration but this observation is what popped into my head. The piece is SO NEXT LEVEL in terms of talent that it deserves a wider audience, for sure! And yet, it'll likely never get heard by more than a few dozen of us weirdos in this here forum. I do indeed consider myself privileged to have been able to listen to such masterful music making.

  • I’m happy to see this track getting the attention it deserves here.

This is precisely the kind of production that shows off the versatility of iOS. I’d previously not have thought you could make such well made orchestral music with an iPad — I thought you needed a desktop computer to access cinesamples and spitfire level libraries. But armed with staffpad and a huge dollop of talent, it is clear that anything is possible. There are some talented bunnies posting in Creations. :)

Thank you for the kind words Mike! I don't know how good it is from a listener point of view (I personally enjoy it), but it was incredibly fun to work on especially now that I solved the tempo issue. The perpetual movement felt like staring at the Ocean. Thank you for letting me work on it, it was an honour.

    That's a classic album!

I’m wondering if you have a part-time job with the Charente-Maritime tourist board @JanKun? ;) Coincidentally, I stayed on Oléron (Saint-Pierre and Saint-Denis) earlier this year. I have to admit I don’t go for the ostréiculture but the island has many other charms. It’s the first time I’ve seen a collection point for oyster shells at a recycling lot.

I don’t have Logic but I do have Cubase Pro 13 and I found it also has tempo detection from audio so it was fairly straightforward to generate a MIDI file with the tempo information to import into StaffPad as you described.

I haven’t optimised all the options yet but early results are very promising even on an extremely rubato performance. It’s more about aligning beats rather than bars but it does mean I can layer sensible looking notation over free playing on my iPad.

Thank you again for sharing such a great example using this StaffPad feature.

Indeed, an absolutely cuckoo album !

  • Thank you both for this gorgeous and inspirational piece. Listening to is is the way to start the day.

Glad the workflow inspired you and that you found your way between Cubase and Staffpad. It is a basic feature on desktop DAWs, but a very rare one on iPad, especially with this level of accuracy.

  • Just a great piece of music. As @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr said, so few people will get to listen to this which is such a shame 🙏

  • Very nice peace of music 😍 Congrats!!!
    BTW:
The sound engine of staffpad is outstanding for orchestral music no DAW i know comes even near to that…..

  • Lots of love for this cool arrangement by Jankun. Nice to see. And happy Thxgivin’ to all whom that applies!

  • Wow I’m sorry to have missed this first time around. Simply brilliant by @LinearLineman and @JanKun !

Sorry for the late reply! Thanks a lot of listening. I agree that Staffpad is an amazing app. I hope it will keep getting updates on the future. New libraries would be nice too, but not hoping too much on this one.

Thank you Tony! I am amazed by the great response on the forum. A broader audience would indeed be great but that would require an extra promotion work on our side 😅
