The Audiobus Forum is now the Loopy Pro Forum!

In case you didn't see the announcement thread, I have some big news: Audiobus – the app – is going to a new home. Francesco and Andrea are developers and musicians who are keen to pursue Audiobus’ further potential, keep it updated and enhance the experience for users old and new – and unlike me, they have the resources to do so! They’re full of ideas and energy, and I am confident that Audiobus will be in good hands.

The Audiobus Forum, however, is staying right here with me. After some consultation with the community here about what to do, I've decided to rename it to the Loopy Pro Forum, at forum.loopypro.com.

It has a new name and new colours, but otherwise, it's the same place, and nothing else will change.

Cheers,
Michael

Guitarists’ Guide

I just thought I would try making a thread after learning about all of the awesome guitarists we have on this forum. It seems everyone is a great guitarist from a different background or genre so I thought it would be fun to make a registry and running thread just for guitarists and guitar related content and info etc. I didn’t know what else to call it so we can change the name lol. I’ll just start off with the following list and you can add or subtract whatever you want.

Name: (only if you want )Chris

Location: NYC,USA (it would be cool but not required )

Genre/type of guitarist: “arabesque” metal* / lead

Guitars:esp custom shop 6 string and 8 string , Ernie ball music man JP 7 strings , Ibanez 6,7,8 strings, Vigier fretless 6 string, Steinberger 6 string

Favorite /influences: Vai, Malmsteen, Satriani, Impelliterri, Gambale, Petrucci, Becker, Gilbert, wylde, evh, Hendrix, Michael Angelo, Moore,…more I forgot about

Favorite pickups: Fishman Fluence(carpenter set), EMG 81/85, Dimarzio tone zone /air Norton

amps/cab: axe Fx iii + Neo clr

fave Fx/pedals axe Fx iii

Samples/albums/tracks:

https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/62786/metalmorphosis-by-delafraih

Fave apps /for drums: one shot , auto fills and Octachron .I hope with One shot! I can make my tracks with ease now

Fave DAW: Cubasis 3, AUM+LP+drambo, [Logic Pro (desktop )]

News/what’s going on: I haven’t been able to record myself[well] until recently and I’m still learning how to make better productions ; but I am working on a cover for my fave Van Halen track atm ;)

*I created a genre I called “arabesque metal” which is a fusion of Arabic oud/folk style inspired mixed with some flamenco and of course American style progressive and speed metal and some European shred to just give you an idea of what elements it’s constituted of.
—————

Ofc it’s totally voluntary whatever you wanna contribute to this thread. I’m just curious to see what kind of guitarists are using iPad , what equipment and apps and setups and workflows you use, and how you compose on iOS .Beyond that, it’s up to any and all of us who participate to see where this goes if it goes anywhere. Point is: share whatever inspires your guitar work if you please

Thanks

Name: Ishmael (Ismail to my friends ;) )

    Location: London, U.K

Genre/type of guitarist: funk, rock, blues and jazz

Guitars: Epiphone WildKat which I've named "Peace"

Favorite /influences: George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Wendy from LIsa and Wendy, Pat Metheny, Vernon Reed, Foley (Miles Davis' lead bassist), Herbie Hancock's Headhunters guitarists Wah Wah Watson and DeWayne McKnight

Favorite pickups: the P-90's that came with the guitar, thinking about getting noiseless ones as my current ones hum easily.

amps/cab: a small Peavey practice amp that I found on the street. I normally hire amps for gigging.

fave Fx/pedals Cheap knock off distortion pedal from China, a Crybaby and Tonestack Pro.

Samples/albums/tracks: too many to list here.

Fave apps /for drums: dRambo and anything with a midi input

Fave DAW: dRambo, dRambo hosting Loopy Pro, Cubasis 3

**News/what’s going on: I started practicing guitar and bass again recently and now I have to start practicing drums again for a gospel gig.
    **

    @yellow_eyez

I created a genre I called “arabesque metal” which is a fusion of Arabic oud/folk style inspired mixed with some flamenco and of course American style progressive and speed metal and some European shred to just give you an idea of what elements it’s constituted of.

    This genre sounds wicked.

Anyways here's a little jam I did when testing my dRambo+Loopy Pro template.

  • Mr .Ishmael, you’re absolutely fabulous from guitar to bass to dRambo . I love the LP +drambo video; it is SOOOOO funky bro, u really slapped the stank on that take.

That drum module in dRambo looks illlll son….im gonna watch this a couple times over before I really weigh in

But thanks for the reply sir
    o7 respect

  • After 2017 I stopped playing jazz after four decades, and switched to ragas. I did not play guitar for about five years--my first extended break since I was a teenager. Then two years ago I got a fretless classical. I'll upload something with it some day.

These are the last two fretted guitar things I made back in 2017. Both are long improvisations in a single take.

I also explored ragas for awhile both rhythmically via drums and percussion as well as melodically via guitar.
It takes one someplace else musically.

    Fretless classical?
Wow, I would love to hear some of this.

I can hear you exploring ragas in your playing.
I really like this piece and the accompanying visuals are stunning.

    Instant head nod.

    Thanks for sharing.

News/what’s going on: I don’t play guitar as much as I used to, and mostly play acoustic now, often slide guitar in open D. I play piano way more than I play guitar

    Name: Evan

    Location: Ohio, USA

Genre/type of guitarist: Rock/Metal/Industrial/Thrash/punk/black metal (sort of)

Guitars: ESP Ltd, Kasino bass I’ve had since I was 8, Rogue Acoustic

Favorite/Influences: Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Fear Factory, Infected Mushroom, Black Sabbath, Hendrix, Queens Of The Stone Age

    Favorite Pickups: HSS setup

Amps/Cab: NAM, Tonex, i have a peavy supreme half stack that I haven’t played in a very long time that I’m looking to sell… I mostly use Gigfast now with Marshall JCM 800/Engl Fireball/Plasma Pedal profiles into Bogren IRs.

Fave FX/Pedals: Tubescreamer, WAH, Shimmer, Glitchy stuff… EQD plumes, Bad Horsey mini, EHX Canyon, Joyo Dark Flame. Only have the Bad Horsey now (considering getting rid of it too). I have moved exclusively to IOS pretty much, did have an RC600 and all those pedals and many more but now just Loopy Pro and AUV3s. As mentioned Gigfast, Tonex, used to use Nembrini Stuff, Aurora DSP stuff, BYOD, Tonebridge began the rabbit hole journey. Recently mostly Gigfast, Anyamp IR, Taurus, Cascade.

Samples/Albums/Track: Coming very soon… I Jam every night mostly when the kids and wife go to sleep. I make a rough “Song” out of it every couple days. Sometimes I’ll put a little more work into it but very rarely. I mean to eventually polish everything a little more and add more vocals and whatnot. My free time is very limited these days so it’s gonna be a while. Been thinking about at least just putting up some jams on SoundCloud. My guitar chops are certainly not what they used to be and I have never been very technically proficient, another goal to work towards soon.

Favorite Drum apps: Sitala, Koala Sampler, Blip Box, Relic Flow, Fractal Bits… Mostly use Bogren samples for acoustic drums into FAC smash and sometimes Punchlab/Transient/Altispace

Favorite DAW: LOOPY PRO!!! FL studio, Ableton

Thanks for the great replies so far everyone

    @wim said:

    Lmao haha

Yes, that’s why the last part I left was
“News/what’s going on” : so please by all means tell us your latest gear purchase or your current productions you have going or whatever you want….we can see where this place goes

  • Yep, great idea for a thread. Thanks @yellow_eyez for starting it.

Name - Gary , Gaz, Med (nickname from when I was roughly 5 that some people still know me by)

Location - the far east of England

Genre - punk, post-punk, noise rock.

Guitars - Favourite is a Hondo All-Star. Lovely low action, coil tap for a variety of sounds, it’s got beef and twang.
Squire Tele - thought it’d be my main but the Hondo is still king.
In bits - A Kay (Teisco) something with terrific pickups that punch like P90s. Light and thin body, very playable. It was broken up when I got it and the scratch plate has gradually fell apart. Need to get this sorted and playable again (yes I love “cheap” guitars but with a decent setup they can be special)

Influences - Daniel Ash (Bauhaus), East Bay Ray (Dead Kennedys), Tony Byker (GBOA), Andy Gill (Gang Of 4), Ichiro Agata (Melt-Banana)

Amp and set-up - I run various fx into a pedal replica of the head of an HH IC100 head (70s British solid state amp) then into one of a selection of IRs for power amp, cab and speakers. My “sound” is usually noise gate-> Harmonic Percolator-> tape delay -> amp. Ring mod and chorus are on the board too.
I prefer the “feel” of pedals and running fx before the amp so apps don’t really fit. Would love some of the delays and modulation we have available on iOS in the chain though. The two “Shaper” apps are a lot of fun too.

Apps for drums - DM1, Octachron, auto fills, DigiStix 2.

DAW - Cubasis 3. Logic if I’m on the Mac but 99% of what I do is on iPad

News - waiting for my partner in crime to put vocals on an ep we’ve just about finished. About to start writing more.
I’m 54 so “getting the band back together” is my midlife crisis project and I really hope we can play live again.

I didn't expect to hear compas or variations of compas at all.
    That was a pleasant surprise.

I was exploring creating a tango and flamenco touring agency in the early 2000's
so I have a broad understanding of flamenco no were near in depth like yourself.
Living in Spain and studying with the gypsies would do that for sure.
By the way I saw both Paco de Lucia and Paco Pena back in the 90's
Stunning performances from both, thanks for the reminder.

Unless it's one of these. If so then you've come to the wrong forum.

this is great. I didn’t expect there to be another user, much less two, here who has real knowledge of flamenco. It seems so electronic-music/beatmaking/midi themed around here, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

I got to see Paco De Lucia one time back in 2001 I think it was.

News/what’s going on: I’m creating a soundtrack for a documentary about a Slovak settlement in Arkansas. I’m arranging eastern European folk songs into Americana (blues, jazz, bluegrass, etc). I just finished arranging one in the style of Chet Atkins.

    Awesome
I totally forgot to put my flamenco guys (paco , Sabicas, tomatito, Vicente amigo)

    Great resquiado

Glad another flamenco style guy is here

    I have a Cordoba F45 nylon

awesome. I can’t believe I forgot to list my usernamesake as an influence, which he most definitely is.

Haha ofc I knew you meant to add him, but who doesn’t list paco as Their man man ?!

I also wanted to add Miguel De La Bastide, I think he’s a new generation player with great talent

    This is awesome

@gravitas you don’t tell me you knew flamencooooooooo!!!?? Ishmael is getting more and more points every day

    Lolololol.

I toured Spain for about 8 1/5 years and
whenever I saw gypsy flamenco guitarists I would sit in.
I didn't know how to play flamenco but they seemed to like what I did. :)
    It was great fun. :)

Are bass players welcome or is that another thread?

If we're not welcome I'm going to have to go.

this is great. I didn’t expect there to be another user, much less two, here who has real knowledge of flamenco. It seems so electronic-music/beatmaking/midi themed around here, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

    Heavy electronica guy here. ;)

I got to see Paco De Lucia one time back in 2001 I think it was.

Yeah, he was the don on guitar.
    Anecdotal story,
I'm sure you know "Friday Night in San Francisco", the three guitar kings???
They did a second studio album and I worked with their producer engineer
from that album (we're still good friends actually) and he had some stories to tell about them.
They were(Paco has gone now)/are very funny individuals.
Great musicians with ego's to match.

These days I use Riffler and AudioLayer to create virtual guitar stuff since my hands have taken years of factory work abuse and playing for any length of time is difficult.

  • I like the solo on this one.
    Nicely played.

I really like this piece especially the arrangement and choice of sonic textures.

    The guitar parts are Riffler?
    Ohhhh....
I think I may take a closer look at Riffler then.

    Thanks.
