What I Wanted - Post-Rock infused Indie guitars 🎸

This borrows heavily from Post-Rock instrumental music, with the extreme dynamics and the ebbs and flows in the arrangement, but with the addition of vocals to give it more of an indie-rock flavour.

All the guitars and vocals were tracked and mixed in Logic for iPad. The guitar tone was mostly derived from pedals, with the reverb and modulation/delay added in the box.

Lyrics in the spoiler:

I wanted you
To hold me tight
And tell me it will be alright

I wanted you to help me
I wanted you to tell me

It's what I wanted
It's what I wanted
It's what I wanted
It's what I wanted from you

I wanted you
To say you might
Help me make it through the night

I wanted you to need me
I wanted you to see me

It's what I wanted
It's what I wanted
It's what I wanted
It's what I wanted from you

Now, you’re finding
That this love is stifling
Now, you’re finding
That I'm not for you

  • Good song and lyrics, and I like the synth lead interlude around 3:00-4;00….and i like the guitars, esp. the outro.

    Thanks!

  • Great stuff, good song with trademark catchy chorus, before you change things up structurally. I love the atmospheric breakdown and the instrumental coda which both make for a different and always interesting arrangement.

  • Ah, the nostalgia of when I attempted a Post Punk song on my former Op-1 Field. I miss that workstation. This took me back to Dec last year. ❤️

Gave your song a listen while replying to the iPad Mini thread. I love it!

(Yes, I'll be back to making music on an iPad tomorrow once my new Mini arrives. 😂 )

Ayyyy that’s good to hear man (honestly got tired of hearing about your “why isn’t this on iPhone” woes hahahahahhahaah) but I feel you on the op-1 - mines gone atm too :(
So is my op-z; all that’s left is my ko2

Heh. I just needed to wait for a Mini with enough space on it tbqh. Apple needed to catch up, and now they have.

but I feel you on the op-1 - mines gone atm too :(

Oh? What happened to the OP-1 Field and OP-Z mate? Just weren't using them anymore?

  • Op-z broke :(

Op-1 had a defective component, told TE, they sent me to GC, GC sent me back to TE, TE back to GC, and finally when GC sent me back to TE, they said send it to us and well repair/replace, but idk if its on the way yet….i hear it takes up to 3 months sometimes. Not sure what to expect honestly

Im trying to decide whether i should just keep my store credit or buy something else [since the move isn’t sold at GC]

Dang that's sad news all around mate. Sorry to hear. Hopefully you find some other hardware you gel with.

    Nice! I enjoyed that.

  • Great track Richard! I especially like the atmosphere break around 3:00. Catchy chorus ! Nice ending, the basic move would have been to sing a last verse Chorus and it's great you chose a different way.

  • Your work is El Dorado for someone who likes originality and individualism in music art. Thank you for sharing! 🤩

Thanks all for taking the time to listen and comment, much appreciated.

  • And in the spirit of post-rock, this is an instrumental version of the track - it works pretty well as a post-rock instrumental just by removing the vocals:

  • Really good track Richard ! You install a really great ambiance here with well crafted and chosen sounds !
Not to say I see or look for any real "resemblance", which isn't interesting, but listening your song I immediatly though of "the mood" that I felt from 2 bands I used to listen to a lot when I was younger : Jesus And Mary Chain, and Toad The Wet Sprocket 🤗

Thanks! The Jesus and Mary Chain have been favourites of mine for decades, but Toad the Wet Sprocket are a new name to me, I'll check them out :)

You’re right. Without the vocals it’s quite good too…and it also gave me a chance to hear the music clearly…I like your lead melody on the guitar lines. Good stuff Richard. (Idk if you have many/any other instrumentals?)

    Yeah I have a couple.

This one is in a post-rock style:

And this one is more ambient/downtempo:

There are versions of both of these with vocals, but they stand up well as instrumentals I think.

  • @richardyot these are really good too. I particularly liked the first one.

Really easy to listen to and relaxing. Liked the almost tape like sound. Seems to cut off a bit quick at the end. Thanks for sharing

Oh yes, someone else told me about the tail being cut off at the end, I've just fixed it - thanks for pointing it out 👍

  • Don’t really do genres, Indy / post-rock means nothing to me but I thought this was excellent.
Really enjoyed the variation in mood and pace. One of your best imho 🙏
