iPad Pro 2024
Heyo all. Anyone have the new iPad Pro? Thinking of going all out with a 2TB 13 inch…wild be a major upgrade from my aging 2017 12.9 2nd gen pro… looking to see if anyone here has any advice or issues with it? Any issues with audio interfaces or auv3 compatibility, stuff like that? Any feedback or experiences you can share would be great. Thanks!!!

I love mine, but I have found a few apps that have audio issues. An example is crackling with Orphion. A reset fixed it. All in all, it’s a dream.
♥️ nanotexture glass
Is that worth it? I was considering that one.. what’s the difference in your experience?
How much Macbook Pro does that get you?
I bought exactly that last May. Purpose was to be able load up Logic with lots of stuff without constantly worrying about conserving resources. It most definitely does that. Hard to make it choke. Logic, on the other hand, can be frustrating learning curve, I just posted my first track from this setup. Only took me 7 months.

This isn’t specific to the 2024 iPad Pro, but in general: I have stopped maxing out storage on iOS devices since they switched to USB-C ports. It’s been drastically cheaper, and honestly better for my workflow, to just use external storage.
For audio use, I see no performance difference in an external SSD over USB 3.x vs. internal storage on iPhone, iPad, or MacBook Pro. It’s worth considering if you’re not averse to externalizing components. Of course, check that the apps you want to use support reading/writing with an external drive.
You missed the point. No touchscreen, no Apple Pencil, complete different workflow.
Following. I’ve been looking for a reason to upgrade as well. Had a few instances of Mariana (along with other apps) in AUM and had to max out the buffer to get rid of the crackling.
The 13 inch M4 is amazing. The only thing I've noticed that actually makes it peak out and crackle is the new Studio Bass in Apple's own Logic Pro (oddly enough), but everything else doesn't even make it bat an eyelash. The screen is just breathtaking and definitely brighter and easier to see in daytime situations (and outdoors). I decided against the nanotexture glass as it really didn't seem to provide a ton of benefit in the reviews I watched, although I didn't have a chance to test the nanotexture personally so you might want to do that if you have the chance.
I also agree with @tom_ward
Paying for the 2TB is definitely not worth it imo. I opted for 512 GB which still gives me a fair bit of internal storage. Then when I need more, an SSD is a much more affordable solution (although I haven't needed to yet).
Sadly my current Apple Pencil no longer works with the M4 due to the new internal hardware layout. I was bummed, but I'm over it now...although I haven't got around to picking up the new pencil yet (just been going without it).
I would love a iPad Pro, but will stick with my iPad Air and Mac Air until it’s time to add another iPad.
I agree with those peeps about the storage options. It’s always wise to get the most you can afford, but external storage is fine if you can get to a certain amount of internal storage. I think 512gb is fine for most and 256 is usable with some compromise.
The 1 and 2tb options do have greater ram though, so while I don’t think it’s as much of a priority to iPad as Mac due to the iPad promoting more constraints on app ram use (due I think to so many iPads still being used having less ram), if you have the money spare, why not treat yourself to the best available ?
It’s all relative to the individual really. I recently bought a Mac Air with 256gb storage and an M3 that will be replaced soon, knowing full well it was a compromise, but it was a well considered compromise for my particular circumstances at this time. Buy yours with the same considered approach and you will know that whatever you get, it’s the best for you at this time and if you can afford the best….why not!
Yeah, it's really up to the original poster what the "point" is, but thanks. If touchscreen, Apple Pencil, workflow are less important than raw power, low level OS tweakability, full file system access etc etc then it is entirely relevant to the point. Again, up to the OP to decide that.
After using the 12.9” for years I went back to the 11” 1 TB for the M4. Don’t miss the extra screen space at all. Definitely go for the nano texture glass. It’s worth it just to cut out the glare on the screen in everyday use.
I misspoke above. I bought “only” 1 TB. The reason for that was not the storage, it was for more power. 1TB provides 16GB of memory. Everything less is 8GB. Don’t know how much difference that would make for your purposes, but like I said, it’s really hard to make it choke.
I just went down the same rabbit hole, but ended up with a 2024 Macbook Pro instead. I just picked up Ableton Live at the last Black Friday sale and want to shift my music making platform from PC to Mac... supplemented by iOS apps of course.
Yep, I decided a Mac Air and my current M1 iPad Air were better as a combo than buying a top spec iPad Pro for more money, but I do understand those with more disposable income just buying the best
Funny thing is that by the time I've finished buying all the bits I want, it will have cost me less than a 8th of what my bedroom studio cost me back in the early 2000s! And probably do more lol
