  • Looks interesting. Needs a demo video. I don’t buy apps without explanatory videos.

Thanks for the interest! I'm working on demo and tutorial videos, and the manual, which will be released this week.

  • Uh oh… Looks good… Wallet alert

    Great.,

  • Hi everyone! Here is a promo for Mass, for those that are interested in getting a better idea of what it is and what it does:

I'm excited to say it'll be available tomorrow!

  • edited November 15

    I got it right away.

    @tom_ward Is this universal, (M1 compatible)? EDIT: I see it's not :(
    Any chances it will be?

And really nice sounding promo video by the way.

  • I'm always eager for new MIDI generators but I'm going to have to see much more of what it can do before I fork out $14.99... :o

I feel the same. This looks right up my street, but I'd like to know/see more before I buy it

    It looks really interesting!
@tom_ward Is the manual you mentioned above available somewhere or still in the works?

(tried the link to “developers website” in the app store, but couldn’t find it there.)

I know the price arguments, and philosophically, agree we should all pay more for devs hard work. But times being what they are… At a fiver, I’d be all in, taking a chance on something which probably won’t be central to my flow, just for fun.

At fifteen, I remember I already have the free Physicles apps, https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/physicles/id1409156444 and the Rozeta Suite’s https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/rozeta-sequencer-suite/id1292546479 Collider and Particles…

Right now, unless it’s coffee money, or a substantive update to AUM, for which I would find serious cash, it’s a nah from me.

A harsh truth, but truth all the same.

    Sorry. I’m out.

  • I buy far fewer apps these days. I can afford it

  • Thanks! You notified me before Apple did :D

First, thank you! It means a lot!

    About M1 compatibility -
The app runs mostly well on the mac, but I'm not super happy with it...not enough to release it just yet. As someone who uses a mac for a lot of work, it's something I'd like to have, too. I won't make any promises about dates or what version it would show up in, but it is planned. I am testing both the automagic mac compatibility mode and the true universal app.

Hi @lasselu and @Kashi, thanks for the feedback!

Now that the app is released and the main development phase is over, I'll be creating a set of deeper videos to explore what Mass can do. Feel free to let me know if there's any specific areas of interest or features you'd like to see more of.

    Hi, thanks!

The most up-to-date manual is at: Mass User Manual

If you do end up buying the app, there is a button in the settings panel that goes directly there, too.

I'll also be releasing some tutorial videos that cover each aspect of the app, and those will start to release tomorrow (saturday Nov. 16).

Thanks for taking the time to share your perspective!

I am also a fan of Physicles, Collider, and Particles. I feel that Mass differentiates itself from them and has a depth-of-control factor that enables it to go well beyond random physics event generation (although, of course, it does that too...). I appreciate that it's not a good purchase for you right now, thanks for sharing your truth.

Perfect, thanks a lot! I’ll probably end up buying this, but love to browse the manual first. (Also: thanks for making a manual at all - that is often missing!)

  • I'm intrigued, I think I'll give it a go ..

  • Sequencers are most full folder on my iPad so not sure if this does any different to what I already own. It would have to be pretty special and or unique specific to grab it. Looking forward to the videos.

  • Any chance The Sound Test room or Givenski will do videos on this? Looks cool and I’d love to see their perspectives.

Thanks, actually I did a quick test with Mass on my iPad sending notes to Bitwig on my Mac. Hardware connected through a cable is more reliable. I kind of like the separation (and I won't be able to use the AUv3 version in Bitwig anyway) so I might well stitch to it while I learn the app.

    Looking forward the videos too.

A quick feature request: would it be possible to remove the dialog confirmation when deleting a pattern? It kind of kills the workflow for me at least.

  • Oof I had hopes that this would match some of Dillon Bastan Division’s feature set. Sadly it is quite basic in comparison. I think an iOS port of Divisions would be a killer app!

Yes, this is exactly how I use Mass the majority of the time! In fact the promo video was using Bitwig's Polymer very, very heavily. This workflow started as a way to make development a little easier, but I've grown into it quite a lot.

Thanks for the feedback regarding the dialog confirmation(s). I went back and forth on that, a lot. I'd be open to exploring a set of options for that type of configuration, so that the user can determine their own balance of safe vs. fast. Please feel free to reach out in PM, or email me, if you'd like to share your thoughts on it!

Divisions is definitely pretty complex. One of my goals with Mass has been to strike a balance between physics and pattern-based event generation approaches in a way that separates it from other options. There are several good options for creating physical reaction-based MIDI, but I feel that Mass' depth comes from its pattern system and the way it interacts with the physics system. Or put another way, the ability to generate events locked to musical time while the physical system unfolds in its own time and space.

Future development of Mass will center around new event types, specifically events that "self-patch" the composition. I'd love to hear any thoughts or suggestions around ways you'd like to see that expand!
