  • This is a blast! 😃

Wow, and as a web app, this runs amazingly well on the iPad.

Edit: the key selection is kinda finicky

  • Jacob Collier, Google and AI. Hard to imagine any worse combination of any three things.

  • Maybe I was doing something wrong, but this immediately bored me.

Yeah, I kinda got bored also.

It’s interesting no doubt, but when you try to get it to do something specific, the controls are too sparse to get any kind of rein on things.

For example, I tried to give it something simple to start; a basic “four on the floor” bass drum beat.

The results on only that single prompt gave me piano, vocals, and all kinds of things. Everything BUT a four on the floor lol

Then I tried to see if it would play me the famous “Amen Break” drumline. Nope, not even close.

So, my final thoughts on it are, yeah, it’s fun if you just want to throw things in the blender and see what it spits out, but if you go at it with a specific musical idea in mind, forget about it.

  • @Edward_Alexander : Perhaps it will improve over time ?

  • I find that the remix function in Udio along with changing the prompt (very important) and adjusting variance levels can give you this sort of creative blending idea and with better fidelity.

What's wrong with Collier? The kid knows music.

And THEN some … “Couldn’t be any worse “ of a comment that you could have responded to. There’s NO ONE on this forum on his level musically.. not even close , and though everyone has a right to their opinion , Jacob is almost beyond criticism . I’m not really a super fan myself but I would never take it upon myself to knock him publicly . Some people , you just DON’T . Jimi Hendrix, EVH, Allen Holdsworth , etc.. Glad you stuck up for him.. The things we see on here sometimes ..

I mean, every musician he has ever interacted with has been blown away with his level of musical knowledge. That's just a fact. I'll defend anyone who is unfairly maligned.

    Speaks for itself…

  • @NeuM : Of COURSE!!!

  • Collier is a genius but last and the only time I went to his gig. I felt it lacked emotional content. It was close to perfect in every other sense but that. Perhaps this explains something here.

  • edited November 14

I was at his djesse vol 4 concert in Kansas City front row dead center and it was one of the, if not THE, best concerts I've been too from a raw music experience. It was like...all emotional content. BUT, to each their own!

  • @supadom : I can see that too

  • He may be technically skilled but his music is garbage. I can’t fathom how anyone can tolerate a single thing about him let alone actually enjoy his music and pay to see him perform. I consider myself a loving, accepting, and open minded person but Jacob Collier needs to have his mouth sewn shut and his wardrobe thrown into a fire. Let this nightmare end.

Technically he is brilliant ...but ... I listen to creations on this forum, many of which I have played multiple times because I have enjoyed them so much ... I have yet to get through a single one of Jacob Collier's you tube performances without switching it off.

Just tried 'moon river' again...amazing production... I could only manage a minute before I had to go and find Andy Williams to soothe my ears.

Guess it is a bit like supremely talented guitar shredders, wow that is amazing, how can anyone do that, so talented...yet also so empty and boring.

Criticising him does feel like putting a cute puppy in a blender though...:-(

  • Maybe instead of trashing Collier, go take a look at one of his many live video interactions with his fans on YouTube. He will go into minute detail about the production of his music or he’ll build a song as people watch. Honestly, I’ve never seen anyone more adept with Logic Pro. Even if you dislike him, you have to admire his level of mastery of music and of production.

  • An interesting take on how all this AI music creation could impact copyright holders:

  • @NeuM : Yeah, his Logic Pro game is truly next level .

Hmmm they are saying they have done so…

If you like him, you like him. But some people don’t. 🤷‍♂️

Honestly, I didn't like him the first time I heard about him. He seemed like an overachiever to me. But I started paying attention and then I was suitably impressed with his deep musical knowledge. Sometimes people just get the wrong impression of another person.

I totally agree. I personally haven’t hear much I like from him but can definitely tell he is a musical genius.
